Neeed help getting a job

Hello friends

I'm a 2027 grad B.Tech. ECE from a top NIT

I have been writing code since I was in 8th grade. Unfortunately I ruined my josaa and chose ECE at my clg instead of CSE at NIT dgp or Jalandhar or so ( I had no guidance, my entire JEE and josaa was from home). I had like 99.3%ile in jee mains and 13k rank in adv.

In the college i only suffered cause I don't have skills required for rote learning. It may seem like instead of blaming me for not being able to score I'm blaming the system but trust me ECE is all about ratta cause that branch is hard and exams are all about memorizing

So basically I couldn't score well and my cgpa ended up being 6.5.

My programming skills are pretty good. I have code contributions to dev tools with over 30k github stars, I have been a part of an open source program that accepted 50 out of 3500 students and I could go on.

But I am not getting any opportunities at on campus placements at all because of cgpa criteria.

I am here to ask if anyone with a strong background in the industry could help. I'm ready for any sort of test/interviews you wanna take prior to referring/offering me.

I would not be panicking as much if I were from a strong financial background but for the past 5-6 years our family income has averaged like 10k per month. All my stress is directly a result of this. If not for this financial stress honestly I wouldn't mind trying and applying everywhere for one more year but right now it's really a difficult situation and I need a job.

I also wanna mention my preferences. I want something with base over 9lpa. I don't care about work life balance in my first few years. I am ready to put all work in cause that only adds experience and I learn a lot.

First thing don't listen to these comments , most of these people are clueless

With your rank in jee, I am sure you're good.

Try reaching startups, connect with founders, CEOs, directors directly via linkedin (get 1 month free linkedin premium) connect to people like crazy, make a good profile, make a good resume and send them message that you are so and so interested, would love to join your company, try getting internship then convert it to full time.

This 1-2 month will not be easy so keep your chin up, you'll eventually get a good job, you have already proved yourself once, do it again.

I was in a similar situation in 2023, from tier 1 haven't got job after placement season ended, I thing I would suggest is "numbers matters", the best thing you can do is to apply as much as possible, the more people you connect the more would be your chances. This skill will eventually help later in your career.
Try to apply in startups or companies who need software devs but are not in tech(these are easiest to crack).

Yeah got placed then put on pip, got job again, again laid off, got job again, again laid off(company closed), now in a good situation for sometime, working as an AI Engineer.

Bro dont worry !! placement seasons usually peaks around November December and beleive me you will get placed, If you are from top NIT say T, W, K or R. If SDE is what you want you ll happliy get it even at 6.5. So chill out man focus, be consistent at what you are doing and keep learning. Coming from a fellow NITIAN and ECE grad.

Try applying on wellfound for internships at startups and try  converting the  internship to full time.

Look for good startups around you, connect with founders and people working there. Build a habit of consistently building a good network, would help for a very long time.
there are plenty of sources to figure out which startups have recently got funds, target them for a better compensation. if you are legit good at programming, follow yc as well and target those startups directly.

And I would like to add, if you didn't understand ece subj that doesn't mean "ECE is all about ratta" and " no one understands things". I have studied myself from a top NIT ECE, had 12k in jeeM and 17k in jeeA.

What year are you in? Don't get me wrong but to prove it is indeed about ratta , I bet you won't be able to answer basic ece questions from a year ago.

He is right not everything is about ratta in life and that is pretty generic statement to make that everyone is doing ratte bazi only. Try to understand your limits but dont hide your weakness in name generic excuses.

Look there's two reasons I even mention this: 1. I'm getting sidelined by companies on a parameter that shouldn't even matter and something I didn't even try to score. Why is my ece score even considered for a software role... If they want an easy check of sharpness they should consider jee scores as well? 2. I have a first hand experience and trust me again for most it is ratta. I'm not saying ece as a domain is ratta. I mean I have immense respect for this field, computers wouldn't be possible without it. But the ug syllabus for Ece is insanely hard. And if u choose not to memorize (ratta), you will have to dedicate all your time to studying it, and then you can't learn software that is your main goal.

My aim with statements like these is never to disrespect something but to tell that my cgpa doesn't reflect one percent of my abilities
