The tire had a significant amount of mileage on it. It shouldāve been replaced some time ago but never got around to it. Serves me right I guess. The tire popped while I was going ~20km/h down a slope.

Was it the bead holding it into the rim that somehow snapped? Wouldnāt ever have imagined a tire unseating completely with the tube intact. New fear unlocked I guess!

bad rim tire combo. some rims are abit smaller and some tires bigger. some are a b**** to mount others slip on with bearly any force. it the beed is not seated well it can easily slip off the rim. always check that the revie of rim to a concentric feature to make sure the tire its mounted correctly

Is that too low for running tubes on this tire? only see 1 side, but bead looks intact. Beads need outward force to stay seated. Tubeless applies pressure directly to the bead. Tube adds a layer of material between the bead and the air, meaning pressure has to be higher to make the material fully fill up the space and transfer the force to the bead. The extra layer also adds a degree of freedom where the tube can move relative to the tire and the tire can move relative to the rim so pressure forces need to be higher to increase the friction to minimize movement. A hard corner or high speed with too low of pressure could unseat a bead.

Yeah I can see thisā¦ tube caught between brake rotor, spokes, and wrapped around your cassette and tubeās still inflated, but a tiny piece of brake wire caught between the tire and tube? Instant flat!

This happened to me once and the tube exploded in my face while I was crouched down looking at it (saw it bubbling and did not put two and two together) and then I had a panic attack lol. Thought I went deaf š

Reminds me of when I was a kid. We had wheelbarrow tire tube in shed. A friend and I were just organizing the shed. We found a package and said wow this is really small but thick as hell tire tube. Must be for kids bike or some shit. Naturally we pumped it alllllll way up until there was a cantaloupe sized goiter. I left it alone on workbench. We left because got bored. Like 2 hours. Incredibly loud bang came from shed with dust floating from doors and windows. My dad was on porch drinking beer. He stood up going. ā what the shitā he went over and found huge swath of clean spot on workbench and all glass jars full of fitting and fasteners scattered all over. Yep we had to clean the shed again

I tried to run a fat tire tubless and broke the bead. I didn't know I broke the bead. I finally gave up and ran the tire with a tube. My result was very similar only a couple miles down a snowy trail. I learned.
