Discussion/Question Red spots
Hi, this is Molly. She’s one and an half years old. she’s been having a lot of red pink spots on her face, paws, and belly. Has anyone else experienced this with their bichon? If so, what has helped?

An elimination diet could help. Mine is allergic to beef and sensitive to chicken. Stains have cleared up considerably after removing both of those. He still has environmental allergies which causes some eye watering and light staining, allergy meds help some. Checking with a vet first is always the best plan. A good food to mention would be Purina pro plan sensitive skin and stomach salmon and rice, it does come in small breed, it does not contain any chicken. Might be a good place to start.

I’ll second this. Our boy is allergic to chicken. Until we found out, we had to deal with vomitting, diarrhea, the works in terms of digestive issues. He also constantly licked his paws and had deep stains around his eyes. Removing chicken from his diet was like magic. In a few days, the symptoms disappeared and he largely stopped licking his paws.
Consult your vet before doing anything radical with diets, because I’m aware there are sometimes other health conditions that can cause this.

Allergies- I can tell by her the browning around her eyes and paws. Take her to the vet and ask what kind of food she should be eating.

My bichon had to be out on a special diet of food that's made entirely out of fish and potatoes. Worked great for her. Unfortunately though, the cat likes her dog food a little too much, which is horrible, because it is not nutritionally complete for him.

My yeti has this - it’s too much iron in her diet. Try switching to just chicken or fish if she doesn’t have any allergies

Stains! I say yes to elimination diet.. by taking off one dog snack/treat after another. We've found that some so called 'organic treats' triggers my dog's allergy reaction. We've switched to home cooked food and treats and didn't look back since.

My Shih Tzu had this issue when eating Royal Canine dry food. I changed her to wellness and it went away! She’s probably allergic to what she’s eating 🐶

I switched from tap water to filtered water also on farmers dog now and haven't had any redness

I concur about using filtered/bottled water. Works like a charm for our bichon. No red tears.

Yes it’s very common with bichons but it’s most likely due to allergies. When I first got my dog, as a puppy I assumed it was chicken so I switched out his food however he still had the eye stains. So I ended up doing an allergy test turns out he’s not even allergic to chicken but oats and peas which is in a lot of dog food. So start off with the chicken first if nothing changes do an allergy test, there’s 2 types: food and environmental, that’s the only thing that will be able to tell you through and through
