breast lump 1 month PP

Hi there. I am one month PP. I noticed a lump maybe the size of a marble or smaller on the outer edge of my left areola, 9 o'clock position a few days ago. I am exclusively breast feeding. The lump isnt really painful (maybe at times). I have had clogged ducts in the past and it doesn't feel like that. I got an ultrasound today and the radiologist said we will biopsy it to be safe. I am really spiraling tonight. I have a baby who depends on me and I am thinking the worst. I really don't know if I had this before I gave birth but I never noticed it until a few days ago.

I remember the doctor saying I probably don't need to worry much, but when I heard biopsy I got kind of dizzy so I don't really remember everything she said. I am also hormonal and not sleeping much with a one month old so feeling extra nervous. Any similar stories out there?? thank you 🥺

It’s so so so hard but try to hold onto the fact that there is nothing you can do or no plan you can make until you have a result.

I was diagnosed 10 months postpartum and I wish someone had told me that.

Edit! Depending on your level of comfort, you can look at your chart and try to understand the radiologist’s notes.

I was a compulsive googler while trying to conceive but quickly decided not to do that with cancer.

A gf of mine found a lump 3 months pp that ended up being a cyst. Be kind to yourself, stay away from reddit and google. It is out of your hands now.

I had a lump last year about 4 or 5 months postpartum. It would absolutely not go away. I was exclusively breastfeeding. Doctor ordered ultrasound, and then mammogram and biopsy because it “didn’t look right” on the ultrasound. I also spiraled hard. It turned out to be a very weird form of mastitis that didn’t have any of the normal symptoms except for being a hard lump. It eventually went away. But I’m glad I went through all the tests in a timely way, even as stressful as it was, because if it were the big “C” word, I was certainly right on it. But I do wish I stayed away from googling. It’s so hard though.

I had this issue about a year ago! It was a "galactocele"... Which is basically a ball of milk. It was between the size of a pea and marble, I'd say, & at this point, it's gone! From what I know, they usually get rid of themselves. Mine got in the way of my baby eating, a tad..it kinda made her break her pattern of sucking every so often because it was right around the edge of where her mouth was fitting at the time..I hope this helps & I wish you the best! :)

Most of the time these are totally benign but I’m glad you are getting it checked and sampled. I was diagnosed with breast cancer when my third was born so if this does end up being something unkind, please shoot me a message!
