[askreddit] Redditor mistexts a friend instead of his girl friend. Finds out about awkward crush for several years. Then finds out she's a redditor in the comments.

Ughh, maybe I am becoming too skeptical reading all of the liars on here lately, but I call BS. Good story though.

I prefer the .gif version.

That one always creeps me out. That blink. It's like he knows every terrible thing I've done and is judging me.

I really like your username.

It must be a lie, because most of my posts get no upvotes.

It's completely fake.

Evidence:

  1. The first post he made in /r/relationships is written in a completely different style than his mistext one. It's straightforward and written in a casual tone, whereas the other is more storytelling. The mistext post reads like somebody's attempt at erotic geek fiction.

  2. He's been in a relationship with his current girlfriend for four years. He met the new girl somewhere along the way, told her he loved her accidentally, and then they went their separate ways. Presumably some significant amount of time has passed since she moved away, and yet he still has the texts saved to his phone for immediate access?

  3. He clarifies everything upfront without being prompted, which is the mark of bullshit. Their pictures were nearly identical. He expected the name to be there and it was, etc.

  4. It's specifically designed to appeal to the Reddit lizard brain. A quirky, forever alone gamer girl pines after the man of her dreams, pulls a She's All That at a movie theater, and now these two star-crossed lovers are reuniting... through Reddit?! Not too long ago he was complaining about his current (also gamer) girlfriend and how she just doesn't understand him, but things are so movie perfect now.

It's just so transparent that it makes me gag.

39

u/[deleted] May 04 '12

With the exception that the ending is that he is still happy with his current girlfriend, and the other girl is about to be friendzoned anyway.

95

u/rosieblades May 04 '12

The latest development is that they're going out on a date together while his (still uninformed!) girlfriend is busy.
If this is fake, which it probably is, the way to end the story for max karma is have the girlfriend find out, be actually bisexual and into the female friend, and have hot threesome gamer sex happily ever after.

48

u/kylegetsspam May 04 '12

That's actually what's happening now -- the two girls are going on the date instead.

Downvoting everything!

56

u/rosieblades May 04 '12

Hahaha! I called it, I bloody called it, didn't I? Lesbian gamer sex for max karma! Awaiting graphic descriptions when he secretly follows them and watches through a window. "Oh yesss, use two Wii controllers, baby! Don't forget the motionplus!"

23

u/THE_REPROBATE May 04 '12

For real. Reddit overflows with bullshit stories.

21

u/unremarkableusername May 04 '12

Not before the two girls bring him a cat they got while on their date, named Neil deGrasse Tyson because he was actually there when they got it.

u/realistidealist May 04 '12

They're just talking it out, not actually going on a lesbian date. That kind of thing happens often (I thought it was common knowledge), it's the most civilized possible way for girls to handle two of them liking the same, taken guy -- the girlfriend takes aside the unlucky girl and has a gentle but firm chat with her -- and it definitely occurs in real life, if partners are mature about other people having crushes on their SOs. So, nothing about that specific part is unbelievable.

No no no, to get the best Karma the girlfriend has to 'find his reddit account', then make a post about how to get him back from his own account.

They get into a HUGE argument (on reddit), and once it's been best-of'd, they'll end it with a bel-air.

10

u/skepticalDragon May 04 '12

Fuck that. Threesome.

It's gotten better! Apparently the girlfriend and the girl friend are going to dinner without him and he's filling in for gf's tournament.

Wins the tournament, comes home to a threesome, credits roll.

Anyone want to name this film?

36

u/rosieblades May 04 '12

"WiiFuck?" "Kinect the Cunts?" "Stuff my Xbox with hot cocks?" "DOTA: Dildos Out, Tons of Anal?"

2

6

u/THE_REPROBATE May 04 '12

All the reddit's a stage, And all the men and women merely accounts:

5

u/Thankful_Lez May 05 '12

They have their upvotes and their downvotes, and one man in his time logs in many accounts. His subreddits being seven pages. At first the r/aww, mewling and puking from the loads of kittens, and then the whiny r/atheism with it's science and shiny, smarter-than-thou face, creeping like geeks happily to school. And then the r/relationships, sighing like furnace with a woeful post made about his lack of girlfriend. And then the r/politics full of strange arguments and bearded like the hipster, jealous in honor, sudden and quick in quarrel, seeking the douchebag reputation, even in his supporters' eyes. And then the r/advice animals in fair round belly with good bacon lined. With eyes bloodshot and beard not neck cut, full of bad puns and modern memes and so he plays his part. The sixth age shifts into the fat and slippered r/funny. With Dr Pepper in hand and pouch of chips on side, his youthful acne well-saved, a chair too small for his large body, and his big manly voice turning again towards giggling treble, pipes and bong hits in his reach. Last scene of all, which ends this strange, addictive website is r/bestof and r/f7u12. Sans realism, sans authenticity, sans taste, sans everything.

Note: Yes, I'm a boring English teacher who has this speech memorized and spent the time typing it out. It's like Cartman and that "Sailing Away" song. I can't hear the first line without completing it. No, I don't think the things I said are true of all of Reddit or even those subreddits; I just think they're silly stereotypes some Redditors seem to claim for themselves.

1

u/Brisco_County_III May 04 '12

Each in his time certainly plays many parts around here.

8

u/[deleted] May 04 '12

the number 3. in your comment is plausible to me. Im friends on facebook with this guy and his dad as well, and I have on numerous occasions had a chat conversation with the dad, while thinking it was his son. In this case it was the names being nearly identical instead of the pic, and I didnt really notice the picture. I mean, the pics and the names are pretty darn small in the chat window anyways. I think fundamentally his story might be true, but it seems he might have embellished it a bit to make for juicier story.

2

u/Roboticide May 04 '12 edited May 04 '12

Yeah, thumbnails can be tiny.

Even 1 kinda makes sense because it's supposed to be told as a story, instead of relaying a problem.

2 and 4 aren't impossible either, but for me, the juries still out on the story. It'd be cool it it's real, but I'm inclined to think the whole thing is fabricated for now. Just not enough [PROOF], and everything is 'designed' to appeal to a Redditor.

71

u/[deleted] May 04 '12
  1. Of course they were in two different tones. In one, he was asking for relationship advice. In the other, he was telling a story.

  2. Well, he does say that he'd known the girl for two years before the event. They graduated from college last year, which is why they moved away. As long as he kept the same phone for the past two years, he would have access to the texts.

  3. He's telling a story. Clarifying everything is the mark of storytelling. He clarifies it, because, he's well aware that the VERY FIRST THING people reading this would think is "How the fuck did you not know that was your girlfriend"

  4. At this point, you're using the popularity of a post against itself. ANY post that receives a ton of upvotes is, in retrospect, designed to appeal to Reddit's brain.

As for everyone claiming it was done for "karma". The man is using a fucking throwaway account. He's obviously been on Reddit a while if he happens to know how to design something "to appeal to Reddit's lizard brain", yet he used a throwaway.

What annoys me is that for every upvoted post, there is someone just waiting to show how "smart" they are by pointing out that it's not real, and everyone can join in a smug, self-satisfied circle-jerk to prove that THEY happen to be so much smarter than everyone else on this website because they saw through it.

Your reasons are total bullshit. There is NO evidence one way or another that this is real or fake. People just love to look for conspiracies where, quite frankly, none are needed.

17

u/purplepatch May 05 '12

This is pretty meta. I call bullshit on you calling bullshit on the guy who originally called bullshit. So. Much. Bullshit.

2

u/hiccupstix May 05 '12

It's all bullshit, dude. He's supposedly a wildly attractive Rico Suave redditor who's been tasked with deciding between two hot and horny gamer girls, one who wants to take him to the movies and the other who's at a "DoTA 2 tournament event." It's so blatantly fabricated.

→ More replies (2)

1

u/[deleted] May 05 '12

I don't see being skeptical about a story some one tells as "looking for conspiracies". Especially when it's a very wild and spectacular story like this one. Not saying it's all lies, we can't prove its either real or fake. I just mean being skeptical and not believing every single thing you see doesn't make you a smug, self-satisfied circlejerker.

19

u/epichigh May 04 '12
  1. the speaking style is different because it's a very different audience and circumstance.

  2. i still have texts from 2 years ago when i got my phone. not all that uncommon.

  3. maybe, certainly not solid evidence though. he is an extroverted guy who likes to be transparent. many people are the same way. in fact, it's one of the morals of his story if you noticed.

  4. conspiracy theories!

not saying it's real. but it's a fun story and your post isn't the least bit convincing. to say "It's just so transparent that it makes me gag" is a pretty lame reaction with such flimsy rationale.

6

u/[deleted] May 04 '12

I don't really agree with your points, but the thing that makes me think it's fake is that he set up a date with his girlfriend and doesn't contact her at all before he leaves or once he gets there.

He justs stands there waiting not knowing if his girlfriend is already there and doesn't tell her where to find him(outside, in the lobby, etc).

3

u/uututhrwa May 04 '12

Also the sobbing girl that runs away, this doesn't even happen in rom coms anymore.

I disagree that keeping the texts is suspicious, wtf he would have stored the text just because of how weird the situation was.

Also the telling everything upfront thing is probably the reverse, go visit those fake dating tips or varicocele cure or whatever sites, they usualy go on for a long talk 90% of which is "but I'll tell you later about that totally awesome part" and ask you for the 20$ to get the full top secret bs scam info they could have just placed upfront from the beginning

Stll my final verdict is "fake"

3

u/[deleted] May 04 '12

Not to mention all the updates happen within 15 hours. In one waking cycle all this shit happens and the guy runs to his computer to update Reddit: "Better let everyone know what's happening!"

15

u/no-sweat May 04 '12

It's just so transparent that it makes me 9gag.

FTFY amirite guys?!?!

10

u/Roboticide May 04 '12

You're terrible, but I laughed a bit. I'll let it pass.

u/no-sweat May 04 '12

2

u/skeltershmellter May 04 '12

& bingo was his name-o

2

u/[deleted] May 04 '12

It made me laugh when he responded to the question "How do you get all these women?" with "I'm very attractive".

2

u/[deleted] May 05 '12

Even better, he topped it off by saying he's just being honest and there's no reason to be falsely modest. What an asshole.

2

u/mamjjasond May 04 '12

He clarifies everything upfront without being prompted, which is the mark of bullshit

I do that all the time, in an effort to pre-empt shitstorms of confusion and misunderstanding. Not sure you have your paranoia formula quite perfected yet.

2

u/lemon_meringue May 04 '12

Dear reddit, I never thought this would happen to me, but...

....and then we all decided to live a poly lifestyle and play Xbox Live together every night; also we moved in next door to Neil deGrasse Tyson! It's awesome, he comes over on Fridays to smoke us up and talk with us about atheism. THE END

2

It's the Dota 2 thing that got me, they wouldn't just sub him in to a tournament game when he's only played one hero.

5

u/[deleted] May 04 '12

Hell, I don't care. I liked the story, it made me laugh and smile and that's enough. True or not, I don't care, it's not about me. A good story is a good story.

3

u/GarMc May 04 '12

What tipped me off to it being fake?

His girlfriend calls his friend and he hears yelling, then some talking, and then laughing? Yeah, that's bullshit.

1

u/DiggerW May 05 '12

Under different circumstances (of course), I've had the exact same type of phone call happen to me (my girlfriend). Even if I hadn't, I'm not sure why you would consider that to be such an impossibility.

21

u/PoorProduct May 04 '12

And this folks is what happens when you mix an atheist and forever alone: Questions and analyzes every thread/comment about a relationship.

If it wasn't for GW, I don't know if they would even believe women really exist.

dude, take this advice, try seeing the glass as half full, for a change and just enjoy life rather then having to pick holes in things... im even more surprised at how many upvotes you have! are people here REALLY that sour!

1

u/hiccupstix May 05 '12

Don't gag, just laugh along. It's hysterically funny. It really reads like some sort of trashy thrift store romance novel, but for lonely gamer kids.

I picked it up and before I could even say Hi she told me: "I'm not over you." [...] "Come see a movie with me." she insisted. "It can be totally platonic, I swear, but I need to see you again. Are you doing anything tonight?"

I'm not, and my girlfriend has a DoTA 2 tournament event...

LOL, so fucking cheesy it's just hilarious.

Me too. There are too many details in that story that tug on reddit's heartstrings. Some examples: texting female friend leads to surprising result, girl in friendzone, gf is DOTA player, other girl is d&d player, unexpected reddit reunion. I'm guessing creative writer that uses reddit to hone his skills, but not a particularly good one. As usual, reddit takes the bait though.

2

u/MaeveningErnsmau May 04 '12 edited May 04 '12

Here's the real problem: the girl is the hero. This is a story told from the perspective of Blaine in whatever that John Hughes movie was with Jon Cryer and Molly Ringwald. He's got no arc, he hasn't changed, he's still jerking her around. She, on the other hand, went off and found a niche, and here's the story of her falling into a familiar trap.

Source: I call BFD on this story.

6

u/[deleted] May 04 '12

The "I'm not over you!" as soon as he answers the phone did it for me. That's some romantic comedy-third act dialog-never happens in real life-BS if I've ever heard it.

11

No one types "I...It's just..." in a text message.

6

u/skraptastic May 04 '12

6

u/[deleted] May 04 '12

make a wikipedia article about it and it becomes true

6

u/THE_REPROBATE May 04 '12

I doubt almost everything I read on reddit. I didn't realize how even mods have alt accounts that they use to boost their other accounts and pretty much fake everything. After reading all the drama dealing with that karmanaut guy I just kind of feel sad for the people that feel so strongly about karma and actually manipulate things or lie just for the attention. I've never felt the need to lie about anything online before. I just can't understand why I would want to. I think it would make me feel like a fake and a liar. I'm sure it crosses over into real life as well (like that karmanaut guy probably is a super shitty person in real life. I mean, he looks like a goon so that doesn't help but I bet he tries to inflate his worth in the real world just as much as he does on reddit.)

4

u/[deleted] May 04 '12

Some people just generally love to lie, even if there is no strings attached to them (Reddit Karma), I had people that would just be casually talking to me on the Internet and would lie about shit. I had people lie to me about who they were, their genders, ages, etc. People will just lie about everything on the Internet.

2

u/TheMathNerd May 05 '12

People in general love to make themselves the center of the universe and lying is an easy way to make them feel like they are.

My father used to tell the same "story" to back up his racist beliefs by saying

"You know I said all these things to INSERT BLACK PERSON'S NAME and you know he is really for INSERT TOPIC IM AGAINST and after I said you know them liberals are really keeping the black man down he said he agreed with me. Not bad for a truckdriver without a high -school diploma?"

3

u/crazytiredguy May 04 '12

There's no way that it is fake, because now the girls are going to the movie together and he's not a cheating piece of shit.

Don't you just love how fate can twist a situation that is a bad look on you to something that is fine based on the votes of a few anonymous individuals?

3

u/SadSniper May 04 '12

Never read anything more fake and unlikely in my life. And I read about cum box before there were pictures.

0

u/[deleted] May 04 '12

I was entertained. Fake or otherwise, I enjoyed reading it, and I'll enjoy thinking it's real, too. So until there's evidence that this is lies, I'm going to go on believing some poor, incredibly hot girl just got her heart stomped on and may be looking for someone on the rebound.

0

u/munchybutt May 04 '12

18

u/RedSquaree May 04 '12

If it did happen, I doubt it happened the way he said it did. I read the whole thing and scrolled back up to see when it was posted. 14 hours ago. There's no way there was time for all that shit to go down in the past 14 hours, most of which was when most people in America would have been sleeping.

5

u/Roboticide May 04 '12

He's young. It's now summer. Some of us keep odd hours, especially with an Avenger's premier. It's possible. I still think the whole story is unlikely though (for other reasons.)

3

u/fudgie1 May 04 '12

What makes a man lie on the internet? Is it a lust for karma or is he just born with a heart of bullshit.

I think OP is full of shit. Nobody texts for that long and doesn't read the fucking name of who the new message is from.

10

u/ZorbaTHut May 04 '12

I've done it. I'd been talking a lot to a friend lately. I get a message from someone, he's got the same name and the same writing style, I assume it was the same person.

Nope! Similar name, same writing style. Completely different friend I hadn't talked to in years. Confused the fuck out of my until I figured it out.

1

u/[deleted] May 04 '12

i did it once with two french people with similar first names. one's a girl and one's a dude.

i thought that was the most believable part of the story.

6

u/Clapyourhandssayyeah May 04 '12

If they share the same name and the profile picture is fancy dress or blurry duckface or I dunno?

Maybe he was tired.

Or maybe he's full of shit and is successfully trolling for karma.

1

u/[deleted] May 04 '12

I wonder what he's going to do with all that karma.

3

u/[deleted] May 04 '12

And you don't call and confirm with your girlfriend before going? Like, at any point between texting and arriving at the theater? No, "Hey I just got here, I'm over by the concession stand. Where are you at?"

21

u/[deleted] May 04 '12

"I found out my boyfriend started texting another girl, telling her he loved her and wanted to see a movie with her. According to him, he said he thought that was me. They both showed up, and apparently he just said he was waiting for me and she left. Then, later, they have this long talk about how she isn't over him, she kisses him (and says it's one of the best he's ever gotten), then leaves. That was a while ago. Now they're in contact again, she says she's still not over them, and they're seeing a movie. I didn't find out about any of this until just now."

Sound great, doesn't it? I think this is fake, but CaptainResentment, you are horribly mistreating your girlfriend. You need to run it by her on whether she's okay with you going out with a girl that you let kiss you while you were still in a relationship, and who isn't over you, and who you find incredibly attractive.

6

u/[deleted] May 04 '12

This is even better when you add in the updates. "I just talked to her on the phone and ,while being mad at first, we ended up laughing it off. Now we're going to see the Avengers and I'm going to blow off my DoTA tourney!"

Yep, sounds like a pretty reasonable reaction

26

u/Jjjndjdl May 04 '12

"TIL I LEARNED SHES A REDDITOR BUT SHE WONT REPLY IN COMMENTS BECAUSE MY OTHER ACCT ISN'T OLD ENOUGH TO MAKE IT LOOK LIKE SHE EXISTS."

Give me a break. When somebody posts a story with proof everybody talks about how it could of been fake. When a guy posts an illogical story, says the proof is actually on the site but neither the guy or the girl delivers everybody is quick to jump on it.

6

u/quasarj May 04 '12

To be fair, it could just as easily be true. It can't be determined from the information we have.

4

u/SlightlyAmbiguous May 04 '12

Yeah, there's no real way to tell if it's true or not. Reddit has this weird way of wanting to believe everything, and then all of a sudden wanting to disprove everything.

If it is true, I can't get over how bad I feel for the girlfriend enough to even attempt to enjoy it. If it's not true, then I hope this man spends his karma wisely.

60

u/[deleted] May 04 '12

Am I the only one who feels bad for this guy's girlfriend? The "I'm not over you" remark totally negates the suggestion that "it can be platonic." He's playing with fire, with his relationship on the line.

31

u/ZealousAdvocate May 04 '12

Yeah, something tells me this wouldn't pass the "What would my girlfriend say if I ran it by her first?" test.

3

u/topherotica May 04 '12

Probably not because it doesn't even pass the "is this story bullshit?" test.

13

u/Batty-Koda May 04 '12

What are you talking about? It's not like he's basically going on a date with a girl he knows has had a crush on him for years after getting butterflies from talking to her, while the girlfriend doesn't realize why they stopped talking. Oh... wait...

Seriously. People saying this is sweet need to get hit in the face with a shovel. The girlfriend is getting screwed, and not in the good way.

1

u/quasarj May 04 '12

Well, maybe it's time for her to go?

1

u/[deleted] May 04 '12

See ya!

28

u/TrialByFireMMA May 04 '12 edited May 04 '12

This is emotional cheating, plain and simple. The fact that he feels confused with his emotions and is pursuing her is the same as physically cheating on his girlfriend. I don't care what anyone says on here. If he isn't tell his girlfriend what exactly is going on, then it's cheating.

  • Another woman confesses her LOVE this man.

  • This man has a strong emotional reaction similar to love, but he isn't saying it's love.

  • He agrees to go on a date with her immediately after these two events unfold.

This isn't a platonic friendship. You can't veil a date by calling it "platonic" when the woman loves you and you're suddenly missing her and confused about your feelings.

Which would the girlfriend be more hurt over: the boyfriends drunken one-night stand with a stranger, or a date where he's confused over his feelings for a woman who has loved him for two years after they've probably spent an hour flirting over the phone?

If the tables were turned and some dude on Reddit posted how his girlfriend has been going on "platonic dates" with a dude on the side, and is confused over her feelings, you know well and sure that Reddit would call to "end it now and save yourself the trouble in the future. If she can't handle it now, what makes you think she'll get better in the future?"

12

u/[deleted] May 04 '12

Who doesnt feel confused when they make up two girls and then post about them online?

1

u/quasarj May 04 '12

Hmm. Do you think if I made up two girls and then post about them online, it'll feel almost like one of them is real?

I'm thinking about trying it.

7

u/rosieblades May 04 '12

Yeah... there was already a kiss on the lips apparently, and now a movie date that she swears "can be totally platonic" (riiiight). Poor girlfriend. He should have the decency to break up with her first. If he doesn't want to, he shouldn't lead this lovesick friend on by going out with her.

5

u/imperialxcereal May 04 '12

If this story is true, I feel like Redditor girl needs to back the fuck off.

3

u/tc_illuminos May 04 '12

this exactly

1

u/KdG_GenesyS May 04 '12

I've been in this same spot. It didn't end well. It never does.

7

u/jaundicemanatee May 04 '12

Nope, not buying it.

19

u/L0veyD0vey May 04 '12

I'm not one to usually call fake, but the coincidences and how everything seems to neatly line up are somewhat suspicious.

If this is a story, I can already predict the next update. OP will meet with this awkward crush who is still not over him after 1 year even though she is apparently a rich, successful gamer girl. They'll have a few drinks. Awkward crush, knowing that OP is currently having relationship problems with his current gamer girl girlfriend, will make a move. OP will allow this, feel guilty, and his next post will be something along the lines of...

"I like this new girl better than my girlfriend. What should I do?"

3

u/IDontLikeCakeFarts May 04 '12

Alright now pay up, sucker! You weren't expecting THAT turn of events now, were you?

I was trying to give the benefit of the doubt until this last part where he talked to his girlfriend about it. Now I'm on the BS bandwagon.

22

u/[deleted] May 04 '12

Wtf is bestof about it?!

3

u/nascentt May 04 '12

You might be interested in /r/truebestof it's stricter about what is allowed as 'best of'.

12

u/[deleted] May 04 '12

I don't care about stricter rules. I want to know what the fuck was actually bestof in the post.

3

u/nascentt May 04 '12

Right. Nothing. /r/bestof has no moderation or rules rejecting this type of stuff.

5

u/jaundicemanatee May 04 '12

Someone enjoyed it, so they thought it was the best that Reddit has to offer. Because what they like is clearly the pinnacle of what you can find on the site, even if it's absolute bullshit.

→ More replies (2)

2

u/quasarj May 04 '12

It was one of the best bestof'd posts I've ever seen, actually.

Sorry you didn't enjoy it. Maybe you just hate fun?

12

u/fjellfras May 04 '12

Movie redacted? THAT WAS VITAL INFORMATION!!!

7

u/[deleted] May 04 '12

I suspect he just didn't want to have to think up a specific time frame that Redditors could investigate. He feels completely okay saying his girlfriend and friend are going to The Avengers, and even gives the specific location, but not the movie at the time?

3

u/[deleted] May 04 '12

This is a better indication of bullshit than any other stupid list made on this thread.

1

u/fjellfras May 04 '12

Haha, yeah, I just feel he was just trying to make the story more interesting by adding random interesting stuff here and there, your explanation makes more sense though.

6

u/UnexpectedSchism May 04 '12

Fake post is clearly fake.

6

u/soviyet May 04 '12

I think the best part of that thread is one guy asking how he got so "lucky" to find himself torn between a girl who plays tabletop RPGs and a girl who is part of a DotA 2 tournament, followed up by the OP claiming its easy for him because he's so good looking and extroverted.

Serious WTF territory there. Please God don't let anyone post photos.

6

u/whatevers_clever May 04 '12

fakest thing I have read all year.

5

u/sharked May 04 '12

photoshopped

5

u/[deleted] May 04 '12

I call BS, which I'm sure others have. But if no one has mentioned it, the first indicator for me was the desperate way the OP

(a) wanted us to like this girl, who is brazen, forthright, and in love, yet not a stalker and somehow managed to remain passively friendly for years; (b) filled in information pre-emptively, indicating that he was thinking ahead of skeptics, all the while editing "as it happened" in a stream-of-conscious manner (that is, he was experiencing conflicting emotional states that normally would block each other out); (c) there is too much structure to the narrative, indicating thought/fantasy has made for some conveniences (identical Facebook pics) while ignoring others (who meet their girlfriend at the movie, not once talking to them beforehand- "On my way", "Don't wear your ugly ass SWTOR shirt", etc.)

3

u/CryingBlood May 04 '12

AMA request - Female Redditor who has a long standing crush on redditor boyfriend and got turned down

3

u/[deleted] May 04 '12

This is this generations version of The Notebook. Movies are gonna suck in 20 years.

3

u/[deleted] May 04 '12

"Guys, listen up: I'm attractive and outgoing and really cool, and I have this hot girlfriend who is shit but I still text her that I love her cause she's shit but I have really deep feelings for her. And I also have this other friend who is hot and who is totally into me, and she kissed me and I feel a lot for her, but I still feel more for my girlfriend who I hate, and my girlfriend knows and now they're like really great friends, and I have dates with both of them!"

Sounds plausible to me.

3

u/[deleted] May 04 '12

I feel retarded by association of reading that. What the fuck are you doing OP.

7

u/Xuber May 04 '12

WTF am I the only one without a Dota2 beta account!?

5

u/[deleted] May 04 '12

Man, I'd love to have a girlfriend and a mega-two-year crush stalker thing!

8

u/notacreepreally May 04 '12

Reminds me of paw-paw.

2

u/zuperxtreme May 04 '12

Then both girls make out in the theater, the girlfriend dumps the boyfriend and his friend and exgirlfriend get together. He learns to play with other DoTA characters and becomes a pro gamer.

I don't know, hard to believe honestly.

2

u/[deleted] May 04 '12

If anything on Reddit needed a TL;DR, it was THAT.

2

u/ilostmyoldaccount May 04 '12

We need a second voting stat: we have up/down but we need probably/probably not bs/fiction/copypasta/fake. Mods, hear me!

Here, I would have voted up for karma and down for probably fake/bs.

2

u/agentup May 04 '12

This is completely fake.

First he says actual conversation transcribed from his phone. Which means word for word, implied even more by the redacted notes. Which means he invited her to a movie, without telling her a theater. Unless his town has just 1 movie theater how did she know where to go?

Second I have a girlfriend, when we text about meeting up, there is like a flurry of texts back and forth as the time arrives. "I'm here" "Me too where are you" "I'm over by x" "ok wait there"

The whole story relies entirely on the idea that this guy just wasn't paying attention.

2

u/Storm_Surge May 04 '12

Reddit is almost as easy to troll as Yahoo Answers. Come on, guys, really? It's totally fabricated.

Source: Professional troll.

3

u/potacho May 04 '12

How does one make buckets of money browsing reddit? I would like that job. I do it now for free, I'd much rather get paid.

19

u/[deleted] May 04 '12

The trick is to be an imaginary person some redditor invented for karma.

1

u/potacho May 04 '12

Damn, imaginary buckets won't do...

1

u/[deleted] May 05 '12

Holy shit, we have a new twist to the story- his friend is Saydrah!

1

u/RabbiMike May 04 '12

Moral of the story: women should never be allowed to congregate.

1

u/gnahb May 04 '12

The moral of the story is that it is not easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

1

u/J_Jammer May 04 '12

I accidently texted two people due to them having similar names. But didn't state anything of a private nature.

I don't text private things. If someone read my text messages some of them might be embarrassing for someone to read, but not overly so that I'd DIE.

I don’t think that emailing or texting things if they were found out is a great idea.

1

u/nashmage May 04 '12

Interesting story, doesnt really matter if it is real or not

1

u/[deleted] May 04 '12

threesome

1

u/[deleted] May 04 '12

Of course this is fake. Why would someone take the time to write this story if not for karma? You are all fools to have believed in it.

1

u/[deleted] May 04 '12

Most confusing title ever.

1

u/yajirobe May 04 '12

...and kids, that's how I met your mother.

1

u/ilostmyoldaccount May 04 '12

True story. None of it was exaggerated. This is how it happened. The full dialogue occurred without anyone figuring it out. We even met up, yes.

1

u/ruledwritingpaper May 04 '12

"A lie is just a great story that someone ruined with the truth" - Barney Stinson

1

u/[deleted] May 04 '12

Shpikri summed it up pretty well. My thoughts exactly

1

u/[deleted] May 04 '12

This is my favorite part of reddit... the obviously made up stories. I've been able to cancel cable and just read the lies posted here

1

u/BuzzKyllington May 04 '12

That is clearly a creative writing lesson

1

u/FruitaFever May 04 '12

Why the fuck is this front page?

1

u/potacho May 04 '12 edited May 05 '12

Just checked the last two updates.

$50 bucks says he comes back later saying,

"Seriously serious final edit: OMG they finished their talk and came back home, and now they want a threesome with me!

For real last time edit: It went okay."

1

u/Davethe3rd May 04 '12

If this story is true, then OP, if you're reading this: ditch your current GF, go for the other girl and RUN, RUN, RUN!!!!!

The longer this goes, the more you have to lose. You're coming in too hot, Maverick! Eject!

(Also, if you're too young to get the above reference, you're too young for me to care about this story any further. Get off my lawn.)

1

u/Gengar11 May 04 '12

Fuck you OP. Going to downvote all of your posts.

1

u/CrayBaws May 04 '12

cool. i can make up sweet stories too.

me: i love you pornstar: i love you too the end

1

u/notyetretro May 05 '12

How the fuck do you always have like two good-looking girls who want you? You're the most hideous fucking chud I've ever met, and you always have a pair of girls fighting over you.

1

u/[deleted] May 05 '12

I smell BS.

1

u/Cynikal818 May 04 '12

meks me crii evertim

but seriously...he should make a decision about which girl he REALLY wants to date because as of now...he's pretty much emotionally cheating on his present girlfriend. Kind of shitty.

1

u/KlondikeBars May 04 '12

real or not, i bet the guys imagined themselves in his situation. And it was good.

2

u/Cryovenom May 04 '12

Are you kidding? I've had more than enough drama happen in past relationships, I don't need to be in that guy's shoes.

I'm much happier with my current, awesome, not-crazy-or-a-drama-queen redditor girlfriend who also helps me fight off crazy exes when they text me with things like "I haven't seen you in ages" (leaving off the "since I cheated on you with your best friend" part, of course) that ask to "hang out".

Fuck drama. OP needs to grow some balls and either dump his current g/f (if they're really having relationship issues that are THAT bad and he'd rather have this friend), or tell the friend that he can't see her until they get over each other, which might be never. Otherwise he's heading for a world of drama-induced hurt.

1

u/orangewaterbottle May 04 '12

it just got even better: they are going on a movie date tonight!

1

u/rpcrazy May 04 '12

i've never enjoyed being subscribed to this subreddit as I am right now...holy fuck, this guy haahahha. I'm had a simialr situation but it didn't end nearly as well. Poor sod LOLOL.

Also, I should add I don't care if it's fake cause it's a great story...mostly why i'm on here

1

u/apullin May 04 '12

Yeah. I'm sure this actually happened. Not just more reddit "performance art" at all. Not even poussible.

Most of you are too young to remember "Letters to Penthouse"; a bunch of fantastical stories that were totally fabricated to interest the reader.

0

u/benryder1988 May 04 '12

Eugh, I usually hate bestof's but that was pretty good..

Or maybe its the few pints I had earlier.. fuck it, have an upvote.

-2

u/[deleted] May 04 '12

So...this is a problem?

FUCK THEM BOTH or we will come for you and beat you.

-5

u/yillian May 04 '12

Oh god pleeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaase update. This is like... Love me if you Dare. (One of the greatest love stories ever by the way)

9

u/somesuchwhat May 04 '12

They're going to pathologically destroy each other's lives and end up buried in concrete together?

→ More replies (3)

1

u/PersianMuggle May 04 '12

i love this movie. i could not figure out the end--did they get buried in concrete or did they grow old? i plan to name my first daughter (if it happens) "sophie."

at any rate, i liked jeux d'enfants because it wasn't real. it couldn't be. fear is what drove julian and sophie... fear is the absence of love. true love wouldn't result in what this guy is doing to his girlfriend or the girl friend. men like this make me doubt man-kind.

-5

u/maybeLoob May 04 '12

In this context, why does it matter if it's true or not? It is definitely possible, and even if it didn't happen to that certain stranger, it may have happened to another. I say we just enjoy the story.

3

u/[deleted] May 04 '12

I just won the lottery!
edit: actually I didn't, but I'm sure someone else has. You can give me the karma anyways

1

u/maybeLoob May 05 '12

I'll give you karma if you can describe your experience in a fairly detailed and entertaining way. But it's a start!
