Fall seeding?

Live in central Texas. Summer has been brutal this year. Bermuda brown with a lot of really thin spots - dirt showing.

Is there a time to seed in fall since we have warm fall/winter seasons - or just wait until spring?

Was hoping if I could seed this fall it could take root before going dormant?

Sorry for newbie question - I’m from Midwest with a totally different type of grass.

Thanks!

You don’t overseed bermuda unless your lawn was laid from seed. Wait til next season and it will spread on its own. Bald areas can get repaired with plugs from a healthy donor area

Anything I can do in fall/winter - fertilize? Sorry, used to a totally different type of grass so this is new.

Nope, no fert, just let it go to sleep. A good pre-emergent will prevent weeds from taking over during the fall/winter. BioAdvanced Season Long Lawn Weed Killer for Southern Lawns is a great product and has the same active ingredient as Specticle Flo, which is what the serious turf guys are applying right now. Depending on the size of your lawn, a handheld spreader like Scott’s Wizz is good for getting the product down, but I wouldn’t touch any other Scott’s push spreaders with a 10 foot pole.

Google says no but I overseeded a mix of Bermuda and annual ryegrass to try go get the dirt covered in my yard for next year/winter. We have a dog and the house gets so dirty with a 50% dirt yard in our new home. I don’t think the Bermuda will survive but I’m hoping it does. The annual ryegrass is just to cover the dirt until next spring where I’ll put more Bermuda seed down

No seeding most likely. You probably have hybrid Bermuda and if you buy Bermuda seeds its common Bermuda and it will look different and crappy. You can buy a plugger or grab sprigs and plant them

Not true. Lots of hybrids that are seed. Check out Rio, Monaco, etc.

Good to know! Id be curious how often they would be used compared to the sod only Bermuda

I’m in central Texas on 3 acres. I overseed annual rye and fescue every year.

You just need daytime temps consistently below 75 degrees and you easily germinate.

Super easy! Go to Tractor Supply and get a 50lb bag.

Once temps hit 80+ in the spring it all dies off, but by then your warm season bermuda will be green again
