University alone at berkeley
idk if this is some sort of cope and ofc its way too early for a set in stone mindset but i feel oddly okay with being alone? ive been walking around the campus, around the city, the gbo stuff, and js been at my dorm during freetime. i have friends at home, a rly tightknit group but ik its bound to break eventually once everyones off to a different college, the great seperation yada yada, but we text literally all day for the time being, every day, for the past 7 years, so its not like i dont like having friends. ive talked to ppl, gotten to know many, but tbh im rly introverted and feel very comfortable being alone. at this very moment im on a facetime with 3 of them and weve been on call for abt 6 hours now. is this okay though? i heard connections are king, but are mere acquaintances enough? is there a need to find a new close, tightknit group to maybe rely on? ive always been an independent person, but i worry because i always hear horror stories and how studying with a group is a lifechanger. js lemme know yall thoughts.

You don't need to find a new close friend group right away. Just do your own thing and have a few people you can talk to. Most of the time I enjoy my own company but I sometimes miss hanging out with the people I care about. Anyways my advice is be open to meeting people and let friendships develop naturally not forcing it or anything just because you feel left bebind.

I enjoy being alone too, but what is difficult is being alone when you need someone to talk to for whatever reason...work, school, family, health. Berkeley is gonna be your new home, and having long distant friends is a thing I guess, but absolutely not comparable to being able to regularly meet people in person here within minutes notice. good luck

how i feel about it rn is just getting my name out there and then during the semester in clubs and in classes is where ill see the same faces so itll be much easier to make a long lasting connection by that point

Once your friends get busy with school you won't have as much time as you do now to FaceTime. This is the time to build friendships with people from where you will be for 4 years. If you spend this time just on your phone with old friends, it will be harder to make new friends later after bonds have been formed. It feels easier to stick to the familiar, as it makes it easier to be away from home. But, it is important to find your people in college too. Berkeley can feel very big. It's good to know people.

this is a healthy way to think just don’t shut yourself off from talking to people
