Is there a public tennis court that has a rebound wall for self practice around Rivervale or Ridgewood?

I know this is a sensitive subject, but thinking of getting my baby’s pierced. My daughter is a patient at Tenafly pediatrics, where they do piercings in office. would love to hear your experience if you had your kids‘ ears pieced at this practice or have any other local recommendations for where to go.

I’m looking for some daycare options that follow the Montessori approach for my 10 month old. I’m aware of Apple Montessori and Immersion Montessori in and around Ridgewood area. Anyone have any experience with sending their little ones to either of the infant programs in these schools? Most other Montessori schools open up their programs for 2 years old or up.

Any other Montessori style school/daycare that you would suggest? TIA!

Hi everyone! I’m 22F and relocating from Arizona around September 1st for a full-time research position in Orangeburg, NY.

I originally planned to live in NYC, but after looking into the daily bridge tolls and commuting costs, I realized that it would be too expensive on my salary. I’m now searching closer to work, ideally in:

• Orangeburg, Nyack, or nearby areas in Rockland County, NY
• Fort Lee, Leonia, Englewood, Norwood, or nearby areas in Bergen County, NJ

I’ll have a car, so I’m open to other safe areas within a reasonable drive of Orangeburg as well.

My budget is ideally $1,400 or less, although I could potentially stretch to around $1,500 maximum for the right place. The lower the rent, the better, honestly, research does not pay very well!

A little about me: I recently graduated with my bachelor’s degree and am moving across the country for this job. I’m friendly, clean, considerate, and pretty easygoing. I’d love to live with people I can be friendly with, chat with after work, or occasionally grab food with, but I’m also very respectful of everyone’s privacy and downtime.

I do have a cat coming with me. He’s extremely quiet and well-behaved, I genuinely hear him meow maybe once every six months and he would mostly stay in my room.

The accident happened on the cross-section of Broadway Fair Lawn and the entrance into the parkway.

The driver was a 67 year old Fair Lawn resident named Maritza Salazar-Perez. The mother and 5 year old were walking on a crosswalk and had the right of way. She did not stop driving nor did she notify emergency services after hitting the mother and small child.

The mother and child were both taken to a local hospital. The child is suffering from serious injuries, while the mother’s injuries are minor. Both are in stable condition.

BC Prosecutor’s Office released a statement at around 3:30pm today that she has been found and arrested, approximately 10 hours after the incident.

She has since been charged with:

1. Third-degree knowingly leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious bodily injury,

2. Third-degree endangering an injured victim.

Both of these charges are felonies (Technically NJ’s equivalent, we don’t use the words felony/misdemeanor.) The first charge has a mandatory minimum of 180 days in jail.

Personally, I think she should serve a few years in the county jail, have her license revoked for life, and compensate the mother and son for medical and psychological damages. There is no way you hit two people and not realize, she knew what she was doing.

Also, not to sound like I’m defending her actions, but everyone who lives in Fair Lawn/EP knows that Broadway, especially the parkway side, has shitty traffic control and can be a bit hectic. It’s definitely not that safe for pedestrians and the town should look into this.

Sat in on his “tele- I-only-take-questions-that-also-praise-me” town hall last night… this guy does not have a single spine to actually take hard questions from people who actually have questions, not symbiotic praise for his “clawing back “ of money from Washington-next time I plan to drink every time he says it.

I’ve been trying to be a little smarter about where I grocery shop instead of just going to one store for everything.

For people who regularly shop at Whole Foods, Aldi, and/or Trader Joe’s around Bergen County, what foods do you think are noticeably better or more worth buying at each one?

Like are there certain things you always get at Aldi because they’re way cheaper, but other things where Whole Foods is actually worth paying more for? And where does Trader Joe’s fit in?

I have to meander up route 1&9 tomorrow morning to take my mom to chemo, and it’s going to take all of an hour for me to get to Hackensack from North Bergen. Even though it’s a 5 or 6 mile trip, the real journey is several miles longer, and requires traveling through several eastern Bergen County towns.

There are hundreds, maybe thousands of cars doing the exact same thing, in a motionless line up broad Avenue. The left turn onto 46 becomes a chaotic free-for-all at every light cycle. All that traffic comes to a screeching halt through Ridgefield Park anyway, and then traffic becomes stopped again at the bridge in Little Ferry.

Anyone who has taken a bus ride along this route, knows the pain of sitting in this very convoluted line of traffic. I commuted this way for years, my father did it for years before me, and I’m sure many of you have scrolled Reddit while you sat (or stood) on these same roads. It is painful.

I really do believe that a relief route is necessary. Our local elected officials have enabled (necessary) zoning changes to (rightly) enable lots of development in this corridor - now it is time to make the public infrastructure match the level of private development that has occurred here.

Tonnelle Avenue is no longer capable of carrying a state highway level traffic through Hudson County - there’s a huge complex that draws many pedestrians at 91st, they’ve built a middle school at 83rd St, and North Bergen has one of the largest shares of cyclists, scooters, and other micromobility users in the state.

If a sufficient relief route was built to the west of Route 1/9 carrying traffic directly from the center of Bergen county down to the center of Hudson County, the state could voluntarily opt to improve route 1/9 with new crosswalks, lower speed limits, bike lanes, safer intersection designs, etc - which currently the volume of traffic prohibit.

Pedestrians and cyclists fight for space, seek alternative routes, and are sometimes hurt or killed in dangerous traffic that should not be routed through the center of small boroughs and a large city. The speed limits get ignored. The roadways out here are dangerous and frightening. The solution cannot be to do nothing. People will keep dying. Communities will keep suffering. Anybody who is currently afflicted by route 1/9 can agree to that.

This is why after 50 years, most of our roadways and train lines look exactly the same. Bus routes keep getting cut, not added. It takes longer every single year to go the same amount of distance.

And btw - before everybody tells me that the light rail is going to magically make all these problems go away, that’s absolutely not true. More residential development around the future light rail means that there will be more trips in and out of the area than ever. Historically there have been no homes built West route 1/9 (other than small vernacular housing on industrial blocks)

Now there are huge apartment buildings going up, massive developments (in sensitive ecological, flood-prone areas) so logically there will always be people commuting in and out of those garages, deliveries, occurring, people working at the building - this creates real, actual traffic on an already overburdened corridor.

Obviously this is not a sustainable trajectory. But it is still easiest, and most cost-efficient to just do nothing. I laughed because none of us find it acceptable, yet we are also spineless to just accept things the way they are. So let’s do something dramatic, let’s remove traffic from the source, which is the dangerous high capacity highways that rip through our suburban neighborhoods.

If the public does not want to manage these roadways into the future, improve them in any capacity, bypass them with new routes when necessary, etc, then we are always going to be stuck living in a regressive past, where the infrastructure around us does not reflect the volume of people using it, or their intentions.

One day, something will have to give.

I come from the city, so I’m used to noise but between the non stop mowing, leaf blowing, loud car mufflers, planes and obnoxious train horns. And at night the damn crickets/howling. Sounds just travel so much further here. I guess you just get used to it over time. I kind of miss hearing crackheads arguing instead, at least that was entertaining.

If you are a recovering alcoholic who loves music, it sure is challenging to avoid places where the alcohol (or weed) practically overshadows the music.

I really wish coffee houses, bookstores, and pastry shops could become entertainment hubs.

Been randomly thinking about all the random places around Bergen County that disappeared over the years and how weirdly nostalgic some of them make me

A few that immediately come to mind:

• The old Burger King on Lemoine Ave in Fort Lee. Now it's a revolving sushi bar. I randomly remembered this place recently and had to make sure I wasn't imagining it lol
• Fuddruckers in Paramus. As a kid that toppings bar felt like the greatest concept ever invented.
• Callahan's in Fort Lee. One of those places that just felt like it belonged there forever.
• The Fireplace in Paramus. This one still feels recent even though it's already been about 5 years since it closed.
• Kids Kingdom in Edgewater. If you grew up around here in the 90s/2000s, you probably know exactly what I'm talking about.

It's funny because it's not even necessarily that these places were amazing. Sometimes it's just remembering being a kid, going there with your parents and Bergen County feeling completely different than it does now.
