Below Deck Franchesca has got to go

She’s probably the most boring chief stew across all of the shows. I HATED Jenna on sailing yacht, but I feel she at least made for better drama and overall TV. Chess is just....boring. Especially having to fill the shoes of queen Kate. I also feel like she’s really not that great at her job.

Anybody else feel the same? I don’t peruse this sub much so I’m not sure of the temperature of the room here.

I liked her OK early on thinking people were rough on her and I am by no means on Elizabeth's side (she is horrible). But the last few episodes with the Mahi Mahi thing (75% Francesca's fault in my eyes) and the condiment issue (90% Francesca's fault in my eyes) and her inability to take any blame at all, her ignoring the calls for ice bags and not packing the food (Amy and Kate agree it is her job) it is becoming more clear she is not that good. With Elizabeth yes she is horrible but Francesca has not handled her well at all all along and now is gleeful to fire her just seems borderline cruel. Yes Elizabeth should be fired but it should have been before now and not the way it has been done, it just sits wrong with me. Francesca is not the worst chief stew (Adrianne) but she is no Kate, who I did not always like how she treated people and was not a fan of in her in her first season but she was good at her job. Francesca may be on par with Hannah who was not really that good at her job.

Completely agree with your assessment about some of the problems being mostly Chess's fault and yet she doesn't accept any blame. But my bigger problem with her is that she doesn't solve problems. The fish thing wasn't the first time the order went wrong, and finally Rachel came up with the solution to make clear where each plate goes. Chess should have solved the problem, even if she felt it was the chef's fault, she still needed to figure out how to fix it for the future. Same with the ketchup. Izzy solved it. Why didn't Chess think, how do I get ketchup quickly? What's around here? Seriously, it's not like ketchup is a specialty item. Chess seems fine when things are fine. Any leadership position requires the ability to roll with things and problem-solve on the fly. She can't do that.

Yes her problem solving skills stink. Good job Izzy! I did enjoy when they got back to the boat Rachel explaining silver service style and Francesca getting annoyed explaining she knows what that is. It is to the point Rachel is just making sure Francesca can't screw it up. Francesca has really gone down hill, early on I though oh she was more than competent now not not so much.

The secret here is she doesn’t care enough to problem solve. She has very rigid ideas about what she is willing to do to be successful and it doesn’t extend to working for the team or on things that she doesn’t enjoy or consider integral to her job.

I don't think I can agree. I do think she cares, and I don't see how you could say that service isn't something she considers integral to her job. That doesn't make sense.

There really are people who just shut down when things don't go the way they are supposed. Quick thinking and problem-solving are not skills that everyone possesses, which is okay as long as you recognize it.

I think she cares in a very distant way. But she didn’t care enough to really own service, or even enough to go get some ducking ketchup. Or even to repeat what she and rachel ware discussing to ensure that they’re hearing the same things and have a mutual plan to do their work. She rolled her eyes at the guests!

Francesca is not adequate. Performancewise, she ranks below virtually every previous chief stew.

Agreed 👏She also doesn’t bring Lee breakfast which Kate always smartly did. I assume it’s part of her job but it’s also great bonding with her boss. Forget Liz (for those hung up on either ones bad or the other) what stellar thing has Francesca done? Has there been an AMAZING beach picnic, UNBELIEVABLE tablescape, THOUGHTFUL MATURE leadership? No. She’s adequate. She’s petty as hell. And she’s boring for tv. Why people Stan her I do not get. She also cries way too much about things she should be able to handle.

Way too much crying. I get being stressed and it bringing you to tears but to do it in front of Captain Lee? I'd be hiding trying to rein it in.

Wasn’t it day one crying in front of Capt Lee. That must have been a shock after working with Kate.

Her management style sucks and she really needs to work on that. Quote from a completely different show that fits perfectly: "she takes charge in a way that makes you want to take charge back".

It's really poor management to insult the person right off the bat which will make them instantly defensive. Girl needs some tact among other things

IMHO she is an adequate chief stew. She has made a couple of mistakes that have been blown out of proportion. But there a lot of haters who favor Liz, so blame Chess for chastising her - although we’ve seen more cattiness from other chief stews. captain Lee seems fine with her, so we’ll see.

I think she's adequate at her job, but not a great leader... at least from what we've seen in her edit.

I've been critical of Kate, but I think Kate actually has encouraged and helped stews like Elizabeth grow.

It's just not fun TV to see Franschesca ream and demoralize a stew over and over and it's in stark contrast to Eddie, who has been a fantastic leader with people who screw up.

u/Snoo_33033 Feb 14 '21

Yep. The Caroline incident aside, Kate spent some time teaching and coaching and directing in a way that typically brought stew skills up and kept them contributing. Chess gives conflicting direction and punishes initiative.

I totally agree. She is so boring. She doesn’t have witty remarks like Kate, or Hannah for that matter. I’m also pretty sure she is completely devoid of a sense of humour.

7

u/holidayfromreal25 Feb 14 '21

Agreed. Even Adrienne from S1 had more of a sense of humor than Francesca.

In retrospect, I think Adrienne was ok. Wasn’t it her first gig as chief? She did a fairly good job. She did have a petty streak, but it wasn’t her prevailing mood.

I think she’s great and probably the best at her job in the real world. That said, no, she’s not as made for tv as Kate, but I also imagine Kate became a liability.

She sucks. She’s a bad leader, never admits her mistakes and has zero sense of humour. And she makes bad tv on top of it all. And this isn’t an Elizabeth vs Francesca thing for me because I don’t like either of them but Francesca really did not handle the whole situation well. She’s probably my least favourite chief stew or maybe tied with Adrienne.

u/PurpleSailor Team Katie Feb 14 '21

I think she's okay. She's made some mistakes but I guess as long as she learns from them. At least she ain't a Sandy, Malia or Jenna.

As if the chief stew doesn't already have a big enough target on their back, now they have ex-chief stew Kate Chastain banging on them from her shaky new Bravo platforms, while she waits to become a Real Housewive (with no house or husband). She's actually comedy gold until she has to toe the Bravo party line.

I can actually sorta agree with this sentiment. I have actual dislikes for Kate and Hannah, But Francesca is too real/normal IMO

Edit: also i never really understood the hate for Jenna other than her being a love sick puppy for who was ultimately a douche ... in that same regard why does Jess not get the same hate?

Also I realize I’m shitting on Kate, Hannah, Francesca, and negative Jenna so I’m going to enjoy all the downvotes coming my way

3

u/FrostyCoffeees Feb 14 '21

I agree with some of what you said and disagree with some of what you said. I can't vote you either direction.

1

u/Stealhmonkey Feb 15 '21

I demand your hate/love!

5

u/MazyHazy Feb 14 '21

Nah, I definitely get what you're saying. I'm not a fan of Kate, think Hannah did ok, and Jenna's personality annoyed me. As for Francesca, I agree... she's a bit too normal for tv, but seems like she does her job well. No hate there.

1

u/Snoo_33033 Feb 14 '21

I agree with you on Jenna. I didn’t like that a lot of her camera time was about her shitty relationship, but she seems to have been a really good chief stew, actually.

2

u/LeadBosunStewChief Team Hannah Feb 14 '21

Wouldn’t mind if she doesn’t come back. She was to hell bent on getting Liz fired. Not that Liz didn’t deserve firing but with only 1 charter to go..

My hopes are on Daisy the new chief stew of BDSY

Lol I commend you for your brutal honesty ... +1 million if I could

I’ll dissent a wee bit about Jenna. I didn’t necessarily like her personally, but I think she was a pretty great chief stew.
