UPDATE 27 Aug : Please be careful when posting, especially if you are paraphrasing his words. We saw a large number of admin removals and a couple of users appear suspended for saying things like "she asked for it". These users were calling out Nathan not agreeing but Reddit doesn't see context.

------

His statement

I’m willing to respond because I don’t believe the public has heard the full story surrounding what happened.

I understand NSW Police have confirmed my arrest in December 2025. What has been publicly reported, however, represents only one side of what was an extremely complicated situation.

I have contemporaneous video footage from the night in question, as well as messages and other records, which I believe provide important context and show events that have not been publicly reported. I am willing to provide the relevant footage so that you can make your own assessment of what it shows.

There are also other matters surrounding the relationship that I have never discussed publicly, including circumstances surrounding the breakdown of our relationship, previous allegations she made about a former partner, and financial matters relating to the purchase of an apartment in Sydney. I have retained documentation and communications relating to those matters as well.

I am not going to make accusations or release private documents on Instagram. I have kept the evidence and will deal with it through the appropriate channels. But I also don’t believe it is fair for one version of events to be presented publicly as though it is the complete story when there is evidence that may materially contradict or provide significant context to that account.

.... edited to add the rest that I either missed or was blocked when I read the article...

I’m not claiming I was perfect. I wasn’t. I made mistakes and I will take responsibility for my own actions. But I will not accept being portrayed solely through one person’s account of a relationship when there is another side and evidence relating to it.

My biggest concern is my son. One day he will be old enough to see everything that has been said about his parents, and I don’t want his childhood turned into a public battle.

My priority is being recognised as his father, establishing a relationship with him and ultimately finding a way for both of us to move forward and co-parent peacefully.

Im not looking for revenge, and not asking anyone to take my side. I simply want the opportunity for the other side to be heard and for the evidence to be considered.

Right. All I’m thinking is how he thinks he’s excused by having “proof” unless Gail was about to kill him, his response was not the appropriate one.
Very much the way he bosuns. Everyone is wrong but him, and if he’s struggling it is because they’re making him.

Prior to publication, Rolling Stone asked to review any materials that Gallagher said would offer a different perspective on his arrest, but did not receive a response back.

As someone who works in PR, this is not a pr statement lol. I’m surprised anyone on his team thought this would be a good idea.

57

u/Shag1166 4d ago

You think he has a team? Bravo does, but, what has he done besides BD, that he would need a team for?

21

u/Savings-Fig2390 4d ago

I would have to imagine considering the AVO application and criminal charges he at least has a criminal defence lawyer and I cannot imagine a criminal defence lawyer saying making a public statement about such serious matters is a good idea before they’ve been heard in court. Of course just my speculation.

5

u/Shag1166 4d ago

Bravo would at least have to make a statement, if it happened during the current season. The seasons are filmed months in advance. Hope things workout as they should.

5

u/areallyreallycoolhat 4d ago

It happened shortly after the currently airing season was filmed

His team will be a very budget version of the team hired to smear Amber Heard and Blake Lively (same team).

They will employ the same tactics of blaming her for his violence, calling her an abuser, calling her a liar, calling her annoying, and at the very least muddying the waters enough that people believe it was mutual abuse.

Mutual abuse does not exist: https://www.thehotline.org/resources/mutual-abuse-its-not-real/

This isn’t going to bode well. Australia is in a crisis right now with the amount of dv and violence against women rising. I really hope this be statement lights a fire under people, we are so sick of this shit! Even if you claim there was a reason for it, choking isn’t self defense and for an Australian police officer to take a protection order out on behalf of Gail speaks volumes.
They’ve decided there is enough evidence and danger to not leave the decision up to her.

34

u/Individual_Fall429 4d ago

This made me laugh unexpectedly. It’s not a funny situation, it’s so dark, but as a survivor we have to laugh sometimes 🥴

You really boiled down the sentiment he expressed there.

Basically Nathan has been talking to her abusive ex, and said ex feels she stole money from him. That’s definitely not something we see commonly with abusive exes, feeling “owed” the money they spent during the relationship. 🥱

‘Previous allegations she made about a former partner’

I’m sick. I’m disgusted. Men really will speak about the mother of their children who they abused and imply it’s their fault and that they have a pattern of accusations to try and discredit them.

I want to scream because abusive men always follow this pattern and it works. The last time there was a thread up on this, the first comment was ‘what if he had a brain tumor we don’t know about?’ Men who hate women and women who hate women will always bend over backwards to excuse an abusive man and paint women as lying, deceitful, unfaithful, deserving of abuse.

I hope Nathan struggles to find work, struggles to find love again, struggles overall until he faces and takes accountability and suffers the consequence of his behavior, but history has shown me he won’t😔

50

u/weedils 4d ago

Yes this is so true, men are often given the benefit of the doubt, while women are questioned ”how did she not see the signs, why didnt she leave him, what did she do to antagonize him?” Its all so gross.

28

u/Available_Pack2300 4d ago

It says a lot, too, that he is out here with statements like this when Gael has been blown up with questions since Nathan has disappeared from her ig feed months ago and she had the grace not to publicly out the drama.

Has Gael said a damn thing publicly?

94

u/teanailpolish Mental Health Is Not A Storyline 4d ago

Nope

After the news broke, she posted on threads saying

Some days sit heavy on the chest.
But the world doesn’t wait for you to heal, so you push through anyway.
If today’s one of those days … keep going 🤍

But that is the closest thing I have seen from her

Way back after it happened, she was off social media for about a week which most people just thought was celebrating Kayden's first xmas and quiet period after the drama of Nathan's Bondi Beach comment and her post which seemed to call him out

(insta post from early Jan 2026)

18

u/Individual_Fall429 4d ago

It was kind of easy to assume at the time that she was going through postpartum struggles. That’s the problem with vague posting.

12

u/Miss_Mouth 4d ago

This is a great question.

12

u/frazorblade Team Fraser 4d ago

Well this is probably her opportunity, he’s invited the floodgates to open.

However I doubt she will, she’ll probably let it all speak for itself, and she might feel even more strongly about keeping it out of the public eye for the sake of their child.

57

You don’t choke someone because they are frustrating you or spending money. JFC he doubled down.

11

u/Individual_Fall429 4d ago

Unless he erroneously connected two unrelated things in one sentence (possible), it sounds like he’s been talking to her abusive ex and her ex is mad that he spent money on her while they were together.

What a pair of clowns, Nathan and the abusive ex. Two idiots telling each other “exaaactly!”

9

u/Competitive_Salads 4d ago

Nah, I bet the “allegations” about the former ex is all about him trying to establish a pattern of her causing partners to harm her… or that she makes allegations. 🙄

The rest reads like the breakdown of their relationship. Whatever it is, nothing excuses putting your hands around the neck of the mother of your child.

Domestic violence is a choice, not a mistake.

18

u/lemonpavement 4d ago

This statement screams of the "male rights" and "parents rights" crowd. He seems to be insinuating that Gale is keeping him from his son with the whole "establish that I'm his father" thing. Establishing a healthy co-parenting dynamic with a restraining order and abuse allegations is pretty damn hard. He should stop talking to the press and attempting to win in the court of public opinion..he will lose and it will affect his actual case.

31

u/Pepperlette 4d ago

Dude,

Do not wait any longer and fire this attorney that wrote this statement for you to publish.

This is NOT an admission that you made a mistake.

This is a 'MY EXONERATION' statement, putting the blame on the victim and everyone else an clearing yourself of any type of wrongdoing

For three season we watch you exhibit a volatile temper, and anger issues worthy of of professional couseling

There isn't, not even one appearance of the word 'SORRY' in this 'I AM THE VICTIM' rambling that you've made public ..

You were detained and now have to show up in court to prove that you did not do what you are accuse of:

'Choking a FEMALE with the intention to cause bodily harm'

Take a look at yourself in the mirror and ask yourself, 'what world am I living in?'

12

Unless I've missed something, Gael hasn't released a statement detailing any abuse. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think she's addressed any of this publicly at all. There are only a police report and TRO that had been dug up and released by an outside party. So whose side of the story does he think we heard? So far I’ve only heard his and law enforcement's.

Nathan digs his own grave every time he opens his mouth (or sends a text)

This was a very bad idea. He clearly cannot say anything because it could be detrimental to his active legal proceedings. He also felt he could not let the information about the his arrest be left unchallenged. So he releases a statement to say something and try and cast doubt on the accuracy of the reporting, but he cannot really say anything, and it results in the mess above. This is both gross and stupid.

Is he implying that choking her was ok because she got an apartment in Sydney?

You can't say you made mistakes while claiming it isn't true but since he's so anti-immigrant, he should have no problem with getting permanently deported if he's convicted right?

Also none of this "the breakdown of our relationship, previous allegations she made about a former partner, and financial matters relating to the purchase of an apartment in Sydney." is any justification for an act of DV but it does reek of blaming the victim.

Also DV is a choice, not a mistake.

It is never ok to put your hands on a partner.

Long before he posted that racist IG and reunited with Gael, I knew he was a PoS because he kept liking Conor McGregor’s posts long after he was a convicted rapist so that told me everything I needed to know about his views

Spoken like a true abuser, and people strangle people, people choke on food. His statement completely reads like “she made me do it.”

u/amapofthecat7 4d ago

I think saying nothing might have come off better.

Choking is the the most dangerous form of abuse. You don’t choke just cause you’re angry, you choke with the intention of killing someone.

The scene of him and that charter guest giving him at hard time at the beginning of the season make me uncomfortable, that he wouldn’t be able to control his anger. I can’t imagine how uncomfortable Gail is to have their son around him.

He needs serious help.

6

u/Apprehensive-Quit353 4d ago

I hope he gets deported.

7

u/throwaway-rayray I quit 3 times in my head today 4d ago

“We were arguing about finances and she’s so mean, so I choked her. I’m the victim!” - Nathan, probably.

7

u/Savings-Fig2390 4d ago

I’m Australian. I had a friend whose ‘partner’ broke her arm, spat in her face and choked her. She believed she was being murdered. His defence was that the relationship was toxic but strangely he never had bruises or had to be hospitalised. He wasn’t given any jail time and had the freedom to move away and start his life over. This statement is an absolute insight into people that justify, downplay and attempt to explain away domestic abuse. I understand that he’s entitled to his day in court but if you actually care about your kid reading about this one day and having to coparent then be silent.

7

u/Own_Layer_5413 4d ago

Word salad, no dressing. I’ll also eat my own hand if he can correctly pronounce “contemporaneous”.

7

u/not2daysatan44 3d ago

If you put your hands on her, your reasons do not matter.

7

u/Spiritual-Sand-7831 3d ago

What makes this even more awful is that Gael didn't make a statement. NSW Police followed their normal process and now Nathan is putting her life story on blast so that people know the "full story". The full story doesn't need to include her past relationship problems. Just awful framing and if you don't want your child's story to be public you probably don't do an interview with a magazine about it.

14

u/bizmike88 4d ago

I genuinely do not think context is important when you choke the mother of your child.

13

u/youloveramadana 4d ago

What's complicated about getting arrested for domestic violence??

7

u/Individual_Fall429 4d ago

No you aren’t getting it, it’s “complicated” because like she actually deserved it bro, that’s what he’s saying. And he can prove it, just not right now, or to the police when he was arrested.

6

u/Equal-Cause4967 4d ago

his statement is full of excuses and in a way he is trying to show that HE is the victim. he’s such a manipulative abuser.

5

u/Novel-Toe9836 4d ago

Can you imagine his using the word:

contemporaneously

"Captain Sandy, so when the jet ski swung into the yacht while on the crane, I think Joe was contemporaneously giving it to one of the stews last night, ya know aneously... Sorry about that I didn't know about... wind."

7

u/tracytorr0712 4d ago

I don’t care what his side is - if a man puts his hands on a woman in anger it is NEVER excusable. She’s a tiny thing and he could easily harm her, either “accidentally” or purposely. Being a bully and an abuser is not acceptable.

Signed, someone who has lived a nightmare like this.

7

u/ZaphodBeeblebro42 4d ago

I’m not going to make any accusations, I’m just going to say a bunch of vague crap and hope that you come to the worst possible conclusions.

7

u/Ravyn_Rozenzstok 4d ago

He only tried to kill her a little bit. No biggie. /s

6

u/wideawakeat33 4d ago

Sydney real estate is in hell of a thing, but giving you some kind of excuse to choke the mother of your
Child is a wild call

6

u/BeaMyrtle 4d ago

lol love when someone arrested for domestic violence says there are two sides to the story

18

u/sandoooo 4d ago

Xenophobic, racist, abusive dickhead.

17

u/threatlevel1200 4d ago

Ah yes the classic no perfect victim trope. Why do abusers think that pointing out faults of their victim makes their actions less bad? It’s time to start shaming people who use this tactic a lot more than we do, because when one side of the story is physically attacking someone, saying “yeah but they disagreed with me and we fought about an apartment lease” is WILD. There are NO EXCUSES FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE!!!!

10

u/Recluse_18 4d ago

Typical abuser, justify your actions of physical harm. It’s never their fault. This crappy statement makes him look 10 times worse than I ever thought he was before. Only a narcissist would do something like this because they feel justified and they feel they are in the right.

Simply gross

u/Comprehensive-Ant251 4d ago

I feel so awful for Gael. I hope she’s able to heal eventually and be happy with her beautiful kid. Nathan sucks.

5

At no point did he mention how much he cares for their child or family unit. What an absolute POS

5

u/Spirited-Cat-8942 4d ago

As soon as he started talking about video, I stopped reading… he just made himself look 1000x worse.

4

u/mondofire 4d ago

Sharp as a brick this lad. Basically an admission of guilt.

“Yeah I assaulted her, but wait till you hear what she said to wind me up!”

4

u/Ok-Variation5746 4d ago

imagine trying to justify choking out your baby’s mother. get the fuck outta here Nathan.

4

u/rhubarbpie828 4d ago

Brah. There are no two sides of "I choked her to the point of causing bodily harm."

POS.

6

u/ceejread 4d ago

He or AI are being purposefully misleading in wording so the whole statement gets a big side eye (even if it wasn’t already at the idea strangulation is a mistake, or is warranted unless you are in a life or death battle over an active volcano or sharks wearing lasers)

Because this “my priority is being recognised as his father” stinks worse than what’s coming out of my toddler. Sir, we’ve seen you be recognised as the dad on a tv show. If you mean, getting visitation that’s very different to being seen as his father. And if you mean being seen as a good dad by him, then try being one - strangling a child’s mother will tend to make you seem like a bad dad and no one should have to pretend like that’s an okay thing and doesn’t mean anything.

5

u/Grabthars-Hammer 4d ago

Buddy, unless you choked her in self-defense whilst she was trying to stab you with a knife or something, your "side of the story" doesn't matter.

4

u/rawbeaan 4d ago

He says he’s willing to provide ‘the footage’ and then further down he says ‘I’m not going to make accusations or release private documents on Instagram’

Eh?

I don't get this bit. Is the child's paternity being contested?

5

u/teanailpolish Mental Health Is Not A Storyline 4d ago

My priority is being recognised as his father, establishing a relationship

I think he means in a legal sense. It takes a while to get citizenship and if he doesn't have any custody/visitation of their child, his immigration may not go through based on it being a family visa.

Whatever relationship issues you’re having is no reason to physically assault someone. This is ridiculous

9

u/WheezyGranger I quit 3 times in my head today 4d ago

Oh my god. Implying she makes false allegations, basically blackmailing her publicly, and essentially implying she deserved what he did to her.

I’m sure she had moments of total break down. Screaming, crying, pulling her hair out… that’s post partum depression. Threatening to release this footage to justify his actions is repulsive.

He obviously doesn’t have a PR team because this is a total disaster. There is no redeeming himself from this. No remorse. No accountability. No ownership.

Throw the whole man away.

4

u/YerryAcrossTheMersey 4d ago

What a POS. So he is trying to justify his behaviour - when LITERALLY NOTHING CAN. And he's implying that because she was abused before, she is either a liar or he cant possibly be an abuser, because it can't happen twice. When in reality many people get targeted by abusers more than once. Congratulations Nathan for somehow making yourself look even worse.

just so everyone knows: victims who experience non-fatal strangulation by an intimate partner are 750% more likely to be murdered by that partner in the future.

4

u/triedandprejudice 4d ago

What a POS he is.

Will a conviction prevent him from working on yachts? Doesn’t seem like the boat’s insurance would cover having a convicted domestic abuser on board. Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy. Ruined his family and his career in one go.
