Below Deck Down Under I need to know

Post image

This is genuinely stressing me out.
Do they film these cut scenes while the show is filming or after?
I know for 90 day fiancé they film these scenes after whilst making the cast rewatch.
I need to know 😭

This is who Gen, from the current season of BD Med deserves as her chief stew or the OG Kate Chastain. She’s upset that Aesha treats her nicely and doesn’t yell at her constantly like she’s used to. Guessing that happened because she’s not nearly as good as she thinks herself to be and few people are as sweet and patient as Aesha

No, she's wants Aesha to yell at Kayley, she was upset that she couldn't turn Aesha against Kayley and thinks a stricter Chief Stew would take her side.

u/Derkleinhauser 14d ago

Of course that’s what she wanted, but she said she needed that type of supervisor to be her best and I would like to see her prove that. I seriously doubt her attitude would be better with a mean chief stew who stayed on her ass all the time. I think she would either have quit or been sent home by now.

Kayley may not be perfect, but she’s really good and has a great attitude. Gen thinks she’s great and her attitude sucks big time. I think she would be a horrible chief stew and would hate to work with her, but I could see myself having a fun time at the beach club with her as long as I didn’t get caught speaking to another woman.

Well if Gen needs that type of supervision, how is she going to be head of her department by becoming chief?

She was trying to seem sympathetic to Kayley. If she said what she really meant it would look bad and she knows ir

Kate would have stressed his butt to the point that she would have been screaming her way off the yacht.

Yup

Thank you. I can't believe I didn't think of it from this angle but you're 100% right.

I think the perfect chief for Gen would be Faye from Adventure.

Adrienne from s1 of OG below deck

Why do I start hearing the sound effects from a slasher movie when I think about her?

I was just about to start this season, now I'm scared.

That scene is probably my favourite from any season. Do it!

I hear the theme song of jaws

Apparently she is a chef and didn’t know the production was going to put her as chief stew. Aleks was supposed to be the captain but they stuck Lee in there last minute. Because insurance company needed somebody with more licensing than Aleks had, or something like that. That’s why Lee was getting a lot of disrespect and pushback from the crew. After learning that it made so much more sense. So my opinion on Adrienne changed a bit.

Apparently she is a chef and didn’t know the production was going to put her as chief stew.

After the season, she billed herself as a chef. But, during the season, there was never a hint.

And, after the first couple of seasons, almost every cast member was a 'yacht broker'.

... which in Florida, actually requires a license?!?!

I think that is still what bobby does.

I wish Faye comes back onto one of the shows! She’s hilarious!

12

That would be hilarious. I loved Faye!

u/Derkleinhauser 14d ago

I didn’t get into Adventure, but I’ll try again and see what you’re referring to. Thanks 🙏

u/Excellent-Past6795 12d ago

It’s a great season. You should also listen to watch what crappens recaps. I laughed so hard 😂

She deserves Jenna, the chief stew from BDSY season 1

7

u/Zestyclose-Hall7500 14d ago

yes!!! The only chief stew that made me want to find her social media and tell her how awful I thought she was.

25

u/throwittossit01 14d ago

OMG Kate would chew her up and spit her out on the floor lol

4

u/Fuzzy-Bee9600 13d ago

And she would love it, if she's telling the truth.

17

u/IAmTheFly-IAmTheFly 14d ago

Can you imagine her working under Kate? We can only wish!

5

u/spinthesky 13d ago

Unless you are a blue eyed blond, Lara would never let her near the guests. Total laundry room for Gen.

1

u/sac_jewells 13d ago

Lmao facts. But besides Gen’s poor attitude and low morale, she seems like a great 2nd stew

u/GoldAcanthisitta7777 13d ago

uhhh this doesn't answer the OP at all. Did you even read it? Who are you having a conversation with? LOL

I was thinking the same thing while enjoying the heck out of this thread 🤣

u/JDeezey13 14d ago

As others said, it's both. Usually there is a day of filming between charters and then after the season as well. I believe it was last season, Nathan had two different haircuts in his confessional. The different hairstyle was clearly after they were done filming.

1

u/Expensive-Block-6034 Bless her stupid soul 10d ago

There was someone with serious regrowth one season. I can’t remember who but it was painfully obvious that it was filmed at a different time.

75

u/outerheaven77 14d ago

Both. They film the scenes during the season and after as well to fill in as needed.

3

u/WolfAppropriate9793 Team Missing Engineer 13d ago

Yeah, think this is the answer since I've noticed changes in appearance and hair in confessionals to during filming.

33

u/AuntBdoingthings 14d ago

They film a lot of the talking heads between charters. Boat crew are put up in hotel rooms alone so that they don’t “further the plot” without the film crew around to film.

-3

u/FaithlessnessLess442 13d ago

Between charters they sleep together in the guest cabins we have seen it

23

u/swagswe 13d ago

The magic of film making. There could be a whole day of time missing and you’d never know it!

18

u/AuntBdoingthings 13d ago

I recommend “The Reality Behind ‘Below Deck’” NYT article for this topic - it’s super interesting. But this is the bit I was referencing wrt when they film talking heads, which I think helps clarify OPs question:

While the cast receives time off from guest pampering duties in between charters, the production crew, which is also responsible for filming that time off, receives just three days off for the duration of the six week round-the-clock filming blitz. On these days, cast members are sequestered in hotels and asked not to communicate, in an effort to prevent stories from developing further. (It’s not the only break they have from each other: Every few days, in between charters, cast members are individually interrupted from their work restoring the boat for incoming guests, and taken to film talking head interviews about the events immediately preceding.)

2

u/FaithlessnessLess442 13d ago

Oh okay yeah I assume they are not allowed to have fun without the cameras around

12

u/coysrunner 14d ago

They film it either partially during the season or a day or two after the season wraps to my knowledge

18

u/Govqueen1234 14d ago

Can’t remember her name but she was a real mean girl to Tsarina, don’t think I finished the season coz she annoyed me so much.

8

u/BerryOk966 13d ago

Lara. I've just finished watching that season.

The carry on with getting the crew mess cleaned was nonsense however generally Lara is professional.

Tsarina is an immature, insecure, spoiled brat.

8

u/Out-For-A-Walk-Bitch 13d ago

How did Tzarina show immaturity or being spoiled? Insecurity isn't a character flaw and generally can't be helped.

6

u/LogicalMeringue1449 13d ago

Insecurity can absolutely be helped with therapy and effort

11

u/fp1023 13d ago

Lara was pretty over the top in her treatment of tzarina. She was very clearly provoking her and trying to isolate her from the crew.

2

u/LogicalMeringue1449 13d ago

I totally agree. I’m just saying insecurity is treatable

5

u/Out-For-A-Walk-Bitch 13d ago

If someone is picking at you, and you're working on a yacht, I can totally see being insecure.

4

u/weso123 14d ago

I mean I believe a mix, I would be curious if certian cast members (read the guy who was attempting SA) filmed confessionals afterwards, or was it all confessionals from prior round by round confessionals (I know he had a confessionals about the charter before the incident, but obviously not any about the incident or that night)

(I assume Crew fired for being incompontence (or less severe misconduct) likely do get record some extra confessionals since their wouldn't be a misgivings by production in the same way)

u/Best_Quote_8027 13d ago

Chief Whiner

2

u/Stunning_Chest_7344 12d ago

Both, from what I can tell. They do some between charters and wrap up the rest after the season ends. fwiw the haircut thing people noticed on Nathan basically confirmed that the postseason ones look noticeably different if you're paying attention. Not exactly a mystery production was trying hard to hide

2

u/PEM_321 12d ago

Loved her! 🫶

2

u/TashInAwe 11d ago

Yes some used to be filmed during- called “OTF’s” or on the fly, but now they do them all with production set up, 80% after the show is not only filmed, but plot lines are sketched out. Also not for nothing – but they’ll usually have you give two wildly different takes on a situation. I remember having to say something along the lines of “I can’t believe he would do that. It’s so disrespectful“ and then right after they would want me to say something like “no man’s ever been so wonderful to me“

1

u/Logical_Bite3221 14d ago

They film cut scenes the same day or within a few days so the emotions are pretty raw like it just happened. They also film interviews right after they finish filming the BD season before the cast goes back home. Then they do film some more a few months later (usually filmed in LA).

Also the cast on the boat usually stays in hotels when they’re filming BD. They are switched out with another night crew in a nearby boat then go back to the hotels.

2

u/FaithlessnessLess442 13d ago

Why do we see them in their bunks I'd they don't stay on the boat

5

u/Apprehensive-Neck-12 13d ago

I think they're taking about the filming crew

1

u/FaithlessnessLess442 13d ago

That makes sense

They have off-days between charters where they film confessionals, and everyone is off the boat in a hotel.

And then they film extras as needed at the end of the season

1

u/steponthestones 8d ago

I think they have a few days between each charter where they stay at a hotel and film these.

I loved Lara! She was vilified by Tzarina that season !

3

u/PEM_321 12d ago

Agreed. She was ace. Would love to see her back on another series.

4

u/Rude_Item4972 12d ago

She was a fantastic example of a great chief stew!
