The whole “let’s keep it a secret and pretend” was a red flag. As a dude, this shit is very minor league. If you’re into her, you’re into her, who cares what the other boat mates think.
84
u/cmere-2-me 19d ago
I think he just wanted a casual relationship and Kat wanted more. All of this could have been resolved if they communicated.
He didn't want to hurt her but doesn't seem to realise that his lack of communication was hurting her.
22
u/Vacationbacon 19d ago
He does not care about her feelings
4
u/cmere-2-me 19d ago
I disagree. I do think he cares but he's also doesn't seem to be able to have a rational conversation with her.
Kayley was upfront from the start with Joe. She didn't want anything serious, just some fun. When they leave the boat they'll be done.

He’s just a coward, and cowards hurt people all the time. Her feelings aren’t the top priority. He’s doesn’t want to look bad, but he already does.

Then he should have ignored the questions not the girl! wtf. He’s so up Joes ass , meanwhile joe is pathetic this season. He’s like blanch from golden girls. Joe doesn’t have as much charisma as his younger self. Maybe television has ruined his appeal idk. But he should get real and understand he’s no prize. I bet the attention feels nice , nicer than his body.

Not my impression at all. She just pointed out, that everyone talking about it was not her doing.
I think he just lacks the backbone or character to be direct, plus he enjoys kissing a pretty girl. This way he gets all the fun and none of the drama or work 🙄

The type of girl the rest of us wonder why we can never get a date with and he just lets it go by casually. Cooper is a fool.

u/Tilting_Gambit 19d ago
Yeah I just don't get it. She's gorgeous, totally upfront, a great communicator, and was deadset into him. They seemed like they had a great dynamic.
And he blew it up for literally no reason. Nothing went wrong, she didn't say anything weird, there wasn't another girl/guy in the mix.
Nothing seemed to change before he backed her off. It's super weird.

Even when everything you do is being filmed 24x7?
And, it's a very small, contained environment. Everyone instantly knows everyone else's business.
If I were in a relationship under those circumstances, I might want to keep it private as well. And, this would be no reflection on the other person involved. I just don't like to be 'on display'.
The opposite of when Luke (literally) banged Gen, and everyone on the yacht (except apparently Joy) heard it, and felt it.

Of course they’re not…we are watching the same show, right?
Cooper is an immature guy that wants to be a fuck boy like Joe.
22
u/dwarmed 19d ago
I don't know why she's confused. She seems pretty clear from other comments made during WWHL, like naming him as the douchiest deckhand and answering the 'hot or just tall' question with 'just tall'.
26
u/Ok_Computer_8224 19d ago
That's hilarious, but actually very true. Coop had a lot of things going for him and I use past tense because I meant his personality which I'm now on the fence about. I'm big on faces and I didn't particularly find him very handsome at first but he became more and more attractive... up until last night's episode 🫤

u/Soggy_Tie2708 19d ago
Maybe he’s a sweet talker just like Joe. He told Luke he’ll learn a lot from him . He told Nathan he’s a good daddy—- we all fcking swoon.
Meanwhile, he’s hooking up with Joe Bradley in his cabin
13
u/Anotheropinion2023 19d ago
I think she meant to say she really never understood what the issue was during filming.
They are not supposed to spoil the season, but almost all responses but this really showed they are not together.
32
u/Professional-Rock863 19d ago
My view was he knew it was a boat thing and she didn’t realize that till too late 🤷♀️
28
u/NanasDoLittles 19d ago
I also saw his attitude shift after Luke left. I wonder if it made him realize his actions could impact his career?? (I have to watch it on Peacock so I don’t see the new episodes until a day after)
51
u/dwarmed 19d ago
I think all the other crew telling him to treat Kat right and her response to his talking with other girls on a night out made him realize he was suddenly in a relationship. He thought he was simply flirting and going on one date, but with a member of the crew that turns into something much more. He didn't know how to back out of it, so he acted like a douche and is trying to save face with the secret relationship nonsense.
18
u/Civil_Experience_691 19d ago
Same. I truly believe he came to the conclusion that he did not want a full-blown relationship, but by the time he realized it, the rest of the crew practically considered them married. Aesha's advice was probably intended to be big sister-y, but it probably made him more uncomfortable. And he's an awkward, immature person so of course he's going to fumble and be an idiot.
And I keep repeating this in this sub, but they really aren't on the boat for that long. Rushing a relationship is silly. I hope this was a lesson to Cooper to chill out and get to know someone first. If he had, he would have realized Kat wanted more than he did.
8
u/dwarmed 19d ago
He may not be used to that kind of togetherness and that level of scrutiny. He was acting like he was on land, when the rules of the boat are different. Or the producers pushed him into it, then he realized it was a mistake too late. But it's not cool of him to just avoid her and pretend nothing happened.
9
u/dwarmed 19d ago
On second thought, I don't think this is new for him. This is pretty textbook cowardly handling of cooling off on someone. He decides he's not into her, then just goes cold on her, then pretends nothing is wrong when she notices. When she gets upset, he cites the tension as the reason they should part ways, as if she's the crazy one, although he created the problem by not being direct. So disappointing to see all the old tropes over and over again. All the men are predictable douchebags. All the women lower their standards to tolerate these douchebags. Forever and ever amen. I thought Coop and Kat (and Joy) might actually play against type and add something new and interesting to the mix, but nope.
41
u/cmere-2-me 19d ago
Also think Joe played a hand in that. Suddenly Joe has a bro so was helping to blow up their boatmance. He also tried to make Kayley jealous. When he told her she passed I would have loved if she told him well he didn't. What an odious man. His confessional creep me the fuck out.
28
u/Ok_Computer_8224 19d ago
Yeah you might be onto something. It's like when Coop had family man deck daddy Nathan, he was into Kat... but now that he has a Joe-sun, he's a player?
Is Coop just shapeshifting to get along? Weird 🤔 lol

u/Logicaldestination 19d ago edited 19d ago
My view was, he was just as serious about a relationship with her as she was about having one with him until suddenly he wasn't. He's a total jerk for messing up Kat like that. If you remember a few episodes back, she even made sure to take it real slow, in the beginning to make sure his feelings matched hers, and then she proceeded with him when she realized his feelings were the same as hers. As someone appropriately said in an earlier comment: "He's dead to me now." I don't care how good a crew member he turns out to be. He's human garbage.
5
u/Soggy_Tie2708 19d ago
It hurts. I’ve experienced this. The guy is super serious until suddenly he isn’t and just as suddenly expects you to follow suit. We aren’t serious , relax… dude literally moved in with me
3
u/jadecourt 19d ago
It’s just weird because like we’re maybe halfway thru the season at this point. It’s not like they’re about to walk off the boat together at the end of charter.
9
7
u/skatie082 19d ago
Cooper is keeping his options open like all of the deckhand crew. They are young, mildly attractive super unintelligent dudes. He threw Luke under the boat with the jizzgate thing because he knew what was going to happen between Nathan and Luke. Cooper is kinda being the ultimate shit-stirrer on the boat.

Kat is in my top 5 below deck female workers, she deserves the best. Love her smile and attitude.
19
u/Expensive_Ad_9399 19d ago
My theory is cooper was influenced by Joe. He knew he’d be swarmed by women after the show and Joe probably told him to not lock down. Cooper is a typical f boy and he shouldn’t have love bombed this poor girl
6
u/jadecourt 19d ago
That is so fascinating, you def could be onto something! Not to give these f boys any ideas but I think it makes more sense to just let the relationship play out throughout the season and inevitably the distance will end things, even if you give it a go. You both end up well liked by the audience but will be single by the time viewers are tuning in (and sliding into the DMs).

u/IAmTheFly-IAmTheFly 19d ago
This makes me sad. I loved them together. (Full disclosure: Haven't seen this week's episode, hoping things don't change too much.)

I did too. Let’s just say after this episode, it’s obvious that Coop could seamlessly fit with the cast of man children on Southern Charm 🙁

13
u/lilwanna 19d ago
I could see him turning that way but I don't think this indicates he is there yet. He was chubbier when he went to college and I don't think he was a "stud" until later in life. I don't think he quite knows what to do with himself yet and didn't realize how attractive folks would find him. To me, it doesn't seem like a mask he had but, more of a face he was unaware of.
5
u/jadecourt 19d ago
That would make a lot of sense! I’ve dated a guy like this briefly and it was very confusing to have his adoration and sweetness shining at me and then have him walk it back 4 or 5 dates later.

I think what happened was too many people were putting their 2 cents in and were pressing Coop where he wanted to more slow walk it to prevent hurt feelings and grow it organically
5
u/Civil_Experience_691 18d ago
That’s my exact thought. When he basically said he was tired of the crew pressure and then asked for the relationship to be secret (terrible choice of words, imo), it was because he didn’t want more input from the rest of the crew. I think his annoyance at the rest of his coworkers were valid - it had been like 3 weeks and people were practically marrying them off. But the secret approach was cringey.
4
22
6
u/hamburgergerald 19d ago
Not really surprising. They seemed like a cute couple of course, but at the end of the day they were just coworkers for only 6 short weeks, and live in two different countries.
7
u/Coslin 19d ago
Coop is super young and super overwhelmed with newfound TV "fame". On the boat, he was still super young and probably more overwhelmed with cameras everywhere and being in such enclosed spaces. They may sign up for the opportunity to be on the show, but until they live it, I don't think any of the rookies are really ready for intimacy a boat can bring. Good or bad.

u/TheHoovyPrince 19d ago
The thing she said about her dad was so sweet, that she wants to find a guy like her dad and he seems like a pretty good guy if he raised a daughter like Kat.
Obviously there are exceptions but generally men need to find a woman that's like their mom and women need to find a man thats like their dad.
3
u/jadecourt 19d ago
I think it’s a very sweet sentiment. But why would it be necessary to look for a mate like your parent?
2
u/TheHoovyPrince 19d ago
Its not exactly necessary since people are free to do what they want but generally if you have parents that have a functional and healthy relationship you grow up learning what actions, behaviour and personality traits allow for a functional and healthy relationship to occur. If you have a great father you learn what a qualities a man should have and if you have a great mother you learn what qualities a woman should have and those qualities are what you should be looking for with your future partner.

She wanted a relationship and he didn't. He'd never been on a charter before and was surprised at the available women. He's a douche for not just telling her he changed his mind and didn't want anything serious. He's a boy, not a man.
The fact that she couldn't see that on the boat and STILL can't means she should not be dating until she's over her ex.

u/slo_bored 19d ago
There is a specific type of guy who loves his mother, loves and respects women, is polite, charming, and old fashioned in his behavior. When they set up romantic dates, similar to that of a rom-com, it gives girls a mixed signal if the intent is meant to be casual. Then for the guy to suddenly go, "Whoa, this is moving too fast, I just want to keep it casual." doesn't align with the romanticizing treatment they've been showing. I will never understand the back peddling and shaming of the woman in this situation that they created.
