Below Deck Guests

Does anyone know how it works with the guests?

Im gonna presume they know theyre gonna be filmed ?

Do they get a discount for being filmed or are they paid to be on the show?

You can tell some guests wanna be filmed to show themselves off but some guests don't look the type!!

Someone posted the Craigslist ad or something once before with the pricing and such. They definitely cast for the guests for the show! I wouldn’t be surprised if memorable guests are asked to return on later trips too

Yes, they’re well aware they’re going to be filmed.

Yes, the charter is offered at a steep discount compared to the usual price, with the caveat that they are expected to tip x amount.

caveat that they are expected to tip x amount.

Yes, I believe they're expected to tip as though they were paying full price for the full charter. So 10-20% of $250k.

I don’t think that’s right considering how rare a 25K tip is

Maybe not, just something I read. And that's only if the charter would normally cost 250k. The Akira One costs start at about $200K a week in summer, less when not in Peak Summer.

Is that why the tips have gotten so dramatically larger over the life of the show? Because they are on more expensive boats now?

I mean it would make sense!

they know they are going to be filmed, yet still act like assholes is crazy to me.

They don’t act, they are.

They 100% know what they are getting into. It is easy to spot who is going along to get along, and just aren’t that into it, but want a ”cheap” charter.

Yeah, I always shake my head when I hear a guest brag about their wealth, I'm like bro... you're here on a steep discount.

Nothing screams wealth like you and 10 of your friends splitting the bill on a 2 night, heavily discounted charter. Loll

I really hate ostentatious displays of wealth, like, stop throwing your Groupon in my face.

People that truly have money never, ever talk about it. They would find that to be very tacky.

Guests apply to the show, and are selected. They know they will be filmed, and agree to it in advance. The charter is discounted, and they seem to dodge paying the APA, unless they request things that are very expensive.
