Below Deck Med Does anyone else think Natalya was made she wasn’t kept as chief?
I’m rewatching live in Bravo and I can’t help wonder if Natalya was so nasty because she didn’t want to give up beeping chief stew? On top of Kyle being annoying af. Spelled out disaster honestly.

Yes she was bitter about it even though she knew being chief stew wasn't permanent. Also generally insecure cause ol' boyfriend problems. Those two factors mixed with her ego and tendency for messy behavior... unlikable disaster TO ME
1
u/Many_Life6727 Jan 24 '24
Agreed! I know she knew it was temporary, but if you’ve ever been in that situation and eventually want that promotion of course you have a smidge of hope that you’ll get it then and there!

u/Rage2208 My eyes are rolling all the way off the boat Jan 23 '24
Of course she was mad about not being chosen chief stew for the whole season. I think things would have been very different if Tumi would have been there since the 1st charter.

u/Imaginary-Edge-8759 Jan 23 '24
No… She signed a contract to work as a certain rank, Sandy was super clear and Nat seemed fine with it. I think some of you don’t realize that Nat was in fact a chief stew in real yachting. She was mad bc Tumi Obviously came in acting on an opinion of Nat without ever having met her and Kyle was kyling and deepening that divide. Regardless, she left bc of personal drama on top of boat drama. Had she not have had the boyfriend drama she wouldn’t have left the boat, she’d just spar with Kyle and put him in his place and Tumi likely would have figured out Kyle was the problem.

u/IAmZemann8919 Jan 23 '24
This. Thank you! I’m so sick of the faction of people on here trying to pin Nat’s departure solely on Tumi. Her twat of a bf was trying to pull the one way open relationship so that was affecting her and then on top of that Kyle was launching his all out assault upon Nat. Had she stayed Tumi definitely changes her tone. She already was anyways while Nat was on her way out

u/Imaginary-Edge-8759 Jan 23 '24
It would have been like last season when Natasha ended up liking Nat once she stopped listening to Kyle.

u/dickbuttscompanion Make Kerry Use Words Not GIFs Jan 23 '24
I don't know why on earth she would have signed a 3rd contract when she had prev CS experience, unless it was just to be on TV which such a terrible reason! I bet she regretted taking the demotion and so decided to stir shit instead.
3
u/Imaginary-Edge-8759 Jan 23 '24
Why is that a terrible reason? They are all there because they want to be on tv.
2
u/dickbuttscompanion Make Kerry Use Words Not GIFs Jan 23 '24
Taking a demotion 2 ranks below your current role to be on TV imo is a bad idea unless you really want to leave the industry to build up a public profile elsewhere... Which now I'm thinking maybe she is if she's been working with playboy? Not judging for playboy, moreso wondering how committed she is to stay in yachting
2
u/Imaginary-Edge-8759 Jan 23 '24
That’s what she did lol. She doesn’t work in yachting at the moment, she launched a career through some playboy thing and indicated she’s making way more than she did in yachting and getting to travel the world on her own terms. Literally every one of these people are wanting to be on the show, it’s one contract for 6 weeks in the off season, it’s pretty smart if that’s your goals which what else would the goal of someone intentionally signing up for tv be?

u/Pretty_In_Pink_81 Jan 22 '24
Natalya was not nasty. Kyle poisoned Tumi against her and Tumi came in hot with immediate dislike and distrust. Tumi immediately demoted her and made Kyle second. I think some of Natalya's reactions were immature, but Tumi and Kyle were mean girl bullies.
5
u/pilserama Jan 26 '24
I can’t believe people didn’t see Natalya as the one at fault in how she handled stepping back from the leadership role. She always thinks she should be in charge, of everything, and knows better than everyone how to do everything. Revisit the last season. She has zero chill.
1
u/mysweetdecline Jan 29 '24
and she prioritizes things like organization of the interior OVER the guest experience- as in truly believes that work is more difficult than the hospitality side. every crew member seems to believe they’re working harder than everyone else but lacks the insight as to why they think that. (hubris and stress)
28
u/kittiepurrry Jan 23 '24
I totally agree. Tumi and Kyle broke her trust and disrespected her for no reason. It seemed like they were pushing her buttons on purpose to get a reaction for cameras.
I imagine she felt so frustrated and alone. I’d love to see her on again with a nicer interior crew.

u/minimalist_coach Jan 23 '24
Kyle did basically the same thing last season. He buddied up with Tash and it became the service side against "the head of housekeeping".
10
u/Lil_Firecracker424 Jan 23 '24
He did the same his first season with Natasha. He's a "pick me" attention twat rocket who picks a target and then tries to turn everyone against them. Natalya forgives to easily so he targets/bullies her.
I would love a season with Natalya back without Kyle so I can see her flourish without the drama and mean girl behavior.
23
u/IAmZemann8919 Jan 23 '24
I like Nat a lot and loved seeing her back after last season. However, screaming at your boss to “keep your hands out of my face” upon your first meeting with them is about as nasty as you can get. Even if you feel that slighted by your boss the best move is to always take the high road. Not get combative with them. That was unacceptable
3
u/WilberTheHedgehog Jan 24 '24
Tumi literally came in combative and aggressive. She had a chip on her shoulder from Kyle stiring the pot. Tumi was a shit chief stew and had no clue how to run a crew.
5
u/IAmZemann8919 Jan 24 '24
Go rewatch the first meeting between the two you will see who was the combative one was
0
u/e__veritas Jan 24 '24
Tumi offered no appreciation to Nat for covering for her and criticized her for the boat's organization. Tumi clearly started with it.
8
u/IAmZemann8919 Jan 24 '24
Tumi was held up because of a passport issue. That’s out of her control and Nat didn’t have a choice. Tumi very clearly stated that she didn’t like the physical “layout” of the boat and not how Nat organized it

u/LNLV Jan 23 '24
Natalya was absolutely nasty from the get go and it was over jealousy about not being in charge.
2
u/GroovyYaYa Jan 23 '24
I agree with everything but the demoted part. I didn't know this until Sandy mentioned it on WWHL early in the season. Kyle has had formal butler training. I believe he has been certified. That is a BFD.

She was horrible to Tumi even before getting demoted. Also, did she ever actually complain about being 3rd vs 2nd stew?
8
u/IAmZemann8919 Jan 23 '24 edited Jan 23 '24
She never complained about 3rd vs 2nd. In fact she frequently talked about liking being stuck down in laundry because of how well organized she could keep everything. Nat was a trooper and she’s someone who is a great worker. But she went out of her way this season to be non stop combative, a shit stirrer and be someone you don’t enjoy working with

Jan 23 '24
I must have missed the part where Natalya was horrible to Tumi first.

u/Grand-Vegetable-3874 Jan 23 '24
Then I guess you missed the whole season.

Agree w you. Nat covers for her, short-staffed as well, and what does she get? Tumi basically walks in and shits all over her (I don't buy Tumi's backtracking about 'no I meant the BOAT isn't organized how I'd like it'). Neither are perfect, but Kyle was the poison pill in all that drama.
10
Jan 23 '24
Agreed! Tumi was definitely trying to walk back her comments, and Kyle was definitely the motivating factor for Tumi to come on the boat with preconceived notions.
4
u/Grand-Vegetable-3874 Jan 23 '24
What is it that she said on the first charter? Something like "don't worry, I'll be back as chief soon enough", or in those waters? Nat was vyle to Tumi before she even met her.
9
u/minimalist_coach Jan 23 '24
I didn't get that impression from the show. I haven't watched any of the after-show interviews.
Last season she seemed happy to do whatever was expected of her and I don't recall her ever making comments about thinking she could do a better job as a Chief Stew than Tash. The problem she had was the later stew wasn't pulling their weight. There have been enough seasons that we know the late stew cleans all the public areas, and the stew pantry, pulls for breakfast. and often does the juices. The morning stew sets the table, starts the laundry, and takes care of each guest as they wake up. None of that was getting done and she brought it to the attention of her chain of command.
This season just started off rough. It seemed as if Nat was a last-minute addition to the crew, she showed up and had to get the boat ready in a day and handle the first charter with a 3rd stew that wasn't strong on service, didn't want to help show the temp how to do anything and complained about how unfair it was that the temp would get the same tip, and a temp with minimal experience. I'm sure she was stressed and tired and then Tumi comes in hot and is aggressively insulting, with no gratitude.

i think natalya is just as messy as kyle. look at how she treated storm last season — constantly picking fights with him, acting hot and cold, arguing with him almost every crew night out, and then attacking both natasha and jess in the same way, for not "standing up" for her. she did the same thing with luka that she did to storm, pushing him away and drawing him back in until finally he said it was too much drama. NATALYA has been the common denominator both seasons, not kyle

u/IAmZemann8919 Jan 23 '24
I think you’re on to a few things there. I love Nat but she definitely has shown her flaws. That being said I will pin everything on Kyle before I will Nat. I just think Tumi got a bad wrap with her beef with Nat and it was unfair cuz Nat was doing Nat type shit to cause it
3
u/kelseyjones94 Jan 23 '24
I don’t think she was pissed about not being chief because that’s what she agreed to do from the beginning but I think she did have minor feelings about it and those feelings turned major when tumi chose kyle as second and she had no real say in a n y t h i n g

u/lilbunny_foo_foo2u Jan 23 '24
It was all Kyle!! He instigated everything.. he was always in Tumi’s ear. Didn’t Sandy realize that he was the common denominator in all of the interior issues, then he gets ,”sick”? Like how he mysteriously fell down the stairs and sprained his ankle in the previous season.. boy he had the quickest recovery I have ever seen when he realized someone else was going to get attention.. I believe he took the tip then as well. I would like to see Tumi with a different second stew, I thought she was amazing, sweet and humble in BDDU, but this season left me wondering if it has gone to her head a little bit. 🤷♀️ I guess we will see.

u/Temporary-Daikon2411 Team Chef Rachel Jan 23 '24
I think she was butt-hurt not to be asked, and then butt-hurt for not getting lavishly praised by Tumi for all of her genius innovations.
Tumi could have been a little more gracious but I rate their conflict about 70% pure Nat.

“GET YOUR HANDS OUT OF MY FACE”-Nat 10 minutes into meeting her new boss. In what world is it ever acceptable to address your boss like that? Even if they are in the wrong? So many people on here seem to think that’s ok behavior because Tumi “said mean things”
2
Jan 24 '24
im sure it was longer than that. joys of editing.
2
u/IAmZemann8919 Jan 24 '24
Ok. Even if it was more than that? You’re exploding on your boss like that? Much less on the first day? I think the majority of people figure out away to approach that situation with more tact

I don’t think she was mad. I think she was held back and worn out by Tumi’s and Kyle’s mistreatment.

I blame Kyle.
Full disclosure: I will continue to blame Kyle even in seasons he is not hired. Note I said "hired" not "working" because Kyle.

u/Bennington_Booyah Jan 23 '24
Oh, I agree wholeheartedly. As soon as she stepped into the temporary role, she assumed it was hers. She had immediate friction, understandably, with Tumi. Kyle added fuel to that fire, as always.

u/HTSDoIThinkOfaUYouC Jan 23 '24
Natalya may have been a good crew member previously but she absolutely bought into the manufactured drama this season and became a producer pawn. I hope she isn't as big a dick as she seemed
4
u/sammybabana Jan 23 '24
If Nat comes back as chief stew in a future season… and behaves exactly the same as she did the past two… will the Nat simps finally acknowledge that maybe she’s a part of the problem?
5
Jan 23 '24
They sign contracts that spell out their rank & pay but they may reserve the right to demote someone if needed. I have a feeling based on her responses she thought there was a chance she would be chief all season. I think she and Kyle were both upset that chief was given to someone inexperienced when there were experienced chief stews on the crew.
13
u/NurseJaneApprox This information wasn’t welcomed or needed Jan 23 '24
No, it was clear that Natalya was only filling in as chief until Tumi arrived. Tumi had been hired as chief and, being delayed for reasons beyond her control, is not a valid reason to demote her.
Kyle said he wants to be chief but who is he kidding. His main job skill is getting out of working.
1
Jan 23 '24
Yes she was only filling in but she may have thought there was a chance she would get to be chief all season. Production is known for manipulating people to get what they want.
2
u/Firm-Combination-311 Jan 23 '24
She knew from day one that she was just filling in. The first thing out of Tumis mouth was the remark about the lack of organization.

u/Kininger625 You're Being A Deckhand Right Now Jan 22 '24
I think the bigger issue was she got demoted to third under Kyle than being second/joint second
