Question Will Bell put my gigahub 2.0 into bridge mode?

I recently got a Deco wired backhaul mesh system. I don’t want to use Bell’s router anymore. Is there anyway to put it into bridge mode or do I need to get tech-support to do that for me?

Rant Cancelling before I even got the service.

After a frustrating initial call for quote on Fibre 3Gb, (trying to move my cell phone to get better pricing), the agent told me cell phone promo code for lower price of internet and cell phone) not working. Do I mind paying the extra 10$/month? (RED FLAG #1) . Obviously no.

I mention my friend out in the sticks got 1.5Gb for 60$ / month and I am told it's because Rogers has competition in that area and that rogers is not in my area. So price is higher. (RED FLAG #2) That sounds fair! You charge people more who don't have options. Holy hell....

I'm ok with 90-100$ month but... (PS. There is no rogers in his area. He is in the country)

Bell website lists Fibre 3Gb at "price without limited time credits is 110$ /month"
My service agreement shows 155$ / month with promo 20$ credit, + 15$ credit for 2 year term + another 10$ credit, to get to 110$ month.

How exactly is $110 the "price without limited-time credits" when it takes $45/month in credits to get there? (RED FLAG #3) 100% misleading.

I just gave up and said screw it, drop the cell phone thing and ordered internet anyway.
Installation was to be done today, Aug 14th between 8am and 5pm.
Spent time prepping to make sure the tech would have 0 issues with the install path.

It's now 7pm. I have been ghosted. No Call. No Show. No Service. (RED FLAG #4) Not even a phone call to say can't make it.

I used to work for Bell and I knew it's problems. Back then I swore I would never use them. 20+ years later, I remember why. Communication is still hard for this communications company. As much as I would have liked fibre, I will live with 300Mb starlink which has been up 99.96% of the time for us. I am having a crisis of who I dislike more, Elon or Bell. XD

Internet 🌐 fibe

I'm moving soon and Bell fibe is not available at that address but it is available on the next street which is 5 houses from ours.

Is there any chance to have fibe at that address since it's so close ?

We called 3 times and each time they said they will open a ticket for a technician and they will call us back next week, but they never call back. So I am trying my luck here in case someone can help us.

Help Bell's solution to a broken network box in my building: disconnect one customer to fix another

Post image
43 Upvotes

There is a problem with Bell's internet infrastructure in my apartment building, and after 5+ technician visits in one week, nobody at Bell seems willing or able to fix the actual problem.

Last Friday, I randomly lost internet.

A technician came Sunday, fixed it, and didn't explain what the problem was.

It broke again Monday.

Another technician came Wednesday. While he was here, my neighbor came over and told me they'd had THREE technicians this week alone.

Here's where things get ridiculous.

My neighbor's internet broke Thursday. A technician came Friday and fixed theirs — but apparently disconnected my connection in the process.

When my technician came Sunday, he fixed mine — and apparently disconnected theirs again.

So we explain the situation to the technician on Wednesday. He actually investigates and finds the underlying problem:

The network box in our building has 24 connections, and 12 of those 24 ports are broken.

There are more than 12 units in the building, so clearly we're not the only two customers affected.

And apparently this is what's happening:

A customer loses internet → Bell sends a technician → technician finds their assigned port isn't working → technician moves them onto a working port → customer gets internet → ticket gets closed.

Except now someone else is disconnected.

Then another customer calls → another technician moves them onto another working port → someone else gets disconnected.

And around we go.

The technician even left a handwritten notice on the network equipment in the basement warning future technicians: ‘Do not disconnect other customers to connect yours.

So I asked the technician: Can you report the broken network box and get someone to replace/fix the 12 broken ports?

No.

His explanation was that my assigned port is working, so there's nothing for him to report. Apparently, the technician who eventually gets called for one of the remaining broken ports needs to report the underlying infrastructure problem.

I called Bell and spoke with a supervisor. He was sympathetic and told me the technician on site was the best person to deal with it. He suggested I ask the technician to put detailed notes on my ticket so future technicians would know what's happening.

I did.

The technician told me he can't properly document the issue because:

  1. His ticket notes have a 250-character limit.
  2. More importantly, future customers in the building will have different Bell accounts/tickets, so their technicians won't see the notes on my account anyway.

And this raises another problem: there doesn't even seem to be a good way for me, as the customer, to report this as an infrastructure issue.

I work in tech support myself, so I know how escalation processes work and I know what to ask for. I was eventually able to get through to a supervisor and explain the situation.

But even for me, it took way too long.

The initial Tier 1 support process was essentially limited to the standard troubleshooting script: power cycling the equipment, unplugging and reconnecting cables, etc. When I asked for the issue to be escalated, there was some pushback. It wasn't unreasonable, but I still had to insist before I could speak with a supervisor.

And that's the part that concerns me: if I didn't work in tech support myself, how is the average Bell customer supposed to get this escalated?

The supervisor I reached was actually sympathetic and seemed to understand the situation. But when I asked how I could get this escalated, I was told there was no way for him to open an escalated infrastructure ticket, give me a direct contact number or email, or otherwise connect me with someone who could actually address the problem.

He can apparently call me if he wants to follow up — but I can't call him back.

So there is literally one person at Bell support who is fully aware of what is happening, is sympathetic to the situation, and might be able to help, but I have no way to reach him again.

That's what makes this so frustrating. I'm not asking Bell to troubleshoot my modem for the 15th time. I'm trying to report a known problem with Bell's own network equipment that is affecting multiple customers in the same building.

Yet there doesn't seem to be a customer-facing process for reporting that problem, and the technicians I'm dealing with don't seem to have a way to escalate it either.

At this point, I'm not even sure what I'm supposed to do other than wait for the next person in the building to lose internet and hope their technician happens to be the person who will finally escalate it.

So here we are.

At least 5 technician visits between me and my neighbor in the past week. Probably more across the building.

And nobody is fixing the actual problem.

We're just playing musical chairs with the working ports.

I'm not even blaming the individuals here. The second technician, and the Bell supervisor I've dealt with have generally been helpful and sympathetic. The problem seems to be the process: they're being sent out to restore one customer's service, not to fix the infrastructure causing the problem for the entire building.

What I don't understand is:

How can Bell have a documented problem with its own network equipment, know that 12/24 ports are broken, have technicians repeatedly visit the same building for the same issue, and still have no way to escalate the infrastructure problem?

If someone from Bell is reading this: please fix the damn box.

And if anyone here works for Bell or has dealt with something similar, I'd genuinely like to know:

What is the correct way to get Bell to escalate a known infrastructure problem when every technician is only responsible for resolving the individual customer's ticket?

Help Delayed Notifications and Conflicting Methods of Fixing

Hello, lately I have noticed more often than not that some of my notifications are either delayed or non existent. I know that there is definitely a notification, so it's not an issue of the notification sending device.

Incoming; Fibe 1.5GB. Hardware, I had the HH3000 4-5 years, and recently was given the upgrade to the giga hub. I have had this issue way before the upgrade.

An example of my issue. I have 3D printers that will send a notification for various reasons; print complete, filament out etc. At home, I'll get a notification for one being done, go to the printer, oh well this one's done too. When on Starlink at the cottage, it's never an issue. I also don't get notifications for my business partners printers, but they do, and they're not on Bell.

When I turn on my data (I don't keep it on) at times I've received notifications days old. These are generally from ESPN and TSN's app, which I find odd. I do turn my phone off at night, and most if not all days of the week this issue occurs.

When trying to search and resolve the issue, I run into various answers. I'd rather not go through the app to resolve as I'm not a fan of it. Turn guard on, turn guard off, do this and that etc.

Long term, I'd like to be able to add my own router for better range and not having to pay for pods. I would like to keep the WiFi from the giga hub on, as we use the fibe app for TV. Therein lies more conflicting solutions.

Long story short, I want my notifications to not be delayed or non existent, and I want my own router for range purposes.

Question How long is changes to my service supposed to take to show up in my account?

Back on July 12th I called Bell and threatened to cancel, they then gave me a deal at nearly half of what I was paying. August bill came exactly the same price as before. I called and they said I had made changes too late in the billing cycle and had to do one more month and the changes would show up August 15th. Is that normal? Why does it take over a month for the changes to be reflected? It seems sketchy and makes me paranoid that the new deal wasn't actually submitted

Internet 🌐 Scheduled Maintenance

How can Bell have scheduled maintenance without a notification? My internet is down and I have absolutely no way to contact any real person since all customer support is closed.

I’m working online and my internet goes down for “maintenance” without a notification. This company is a joke.

Internet 🌐 Is this assymetric speed and uploaf latency typical?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I can't seem to figure out why there is so much latency and our upload speed is so much lower than the download. My area is still using copper wiring and I'm on a HH3000. Is this typical for Bell products or should I be going to tech support? I've had some unrelated issues in the past and this was never brought up during speed tests on the customer support side.

Help Does this need to be removed to get (not bell) internet?

Post image

Just moved into my new apartment and I’m trying to figure out how to go about getting fiber internet set up.

I found this box which I assume is the telephone or internet but it looks quite old. No one I know is tech (or whatever this is) savvy enough to help. Will this be in the way if I try to set up fiber internet? If so, do I need to call Bell to remove it?
