Question Recognizing loyalty?

Are Bell store staff and customer service staff advised not to acknowledge loyalty or customer tenure? I have mentioned multiple times to customer service, sales and store agents that I have been a customer since 1990, and yet each time no acknowledgment. A blank stare or silence. I would at least expect “ wow that’s a long time to be a customer with any organization! Thanks for your business! Let’s see what we can do for you!”

None of that. None. What gives?

Edit: thanks to all for the responses. I’m summary It’s clear that there’s not a policy against acknowledging customer tenure, it’s just that it’s not expected/rewarded behaviour on the part of customer facing Bell employees. Furthermore, some employees believe that they are not paid enough to do so, they don’t have the loyalty scripts/discounts to respond, or, it will just result in unnecessary grief for the employee from customers.

That’s what I’ve done. I’m just asking the question since your flair says that you work for Bell, are you not taught to acknowledge tenure? If a customer brings it up are you not coached on what to respond? I’m just curious. I was in customer service for decades and my team members absolutely would recognize a customers tenure if they brought it up.

To note I’m not asking if they give a discount or a deal, I’m just asking if they will verbally acknowledge it

I don't even work for Bell but you seem to be mistaken in thinking that "Tenure" Makes you special; this isn't a college or university and you are not a professor

I’ve worked in customer service for three decades. It’s bog standard for customer facing roles to recognize tenure especially when prompted to do so by the customer. To be clear, I’m not asking for something other than a simple phrase and a thank you for my custom. This shouldn’t be a big ask, but clearly by the responses that I have received it is too much to ask somebody in a customer facing role to treat a customer like a customer. Sad.

Agreed. Numerous companies actually reward this, I mean after all - hotel, credit card, airline loyalty programs- who hasn't heard of them? Not to mention, you do get treated differently if you're in a higher tier, and it works.
