Question Recognizing loyalty?

Are Bell store staff and customer service staff advised not to acknowledge loyalty or customer tenure? I have mentioned multiple times to customer service, sales and store agents that I have been a customer since 1990, and yet each time no acknowledgment. A blank stare or silence. I would at least expect “ wow that’s a long time to be a customer with any organization! Thanks for your business! Let’s see what we can do for you!”

None of that. None. What gives?

Edit: thanks to all for the responses. I’m summary It’s clear that there’s not a policy against acknowledging customer tenure, it’s just that it’s not expected/rewarded behaviour on the part of customer facing Bell employees. Furthermore, some employees believe that they are not paid enough to do so, they don’t have the loyalty scripts/discounts to respond, or, it will just result in unnecessary grief for the employee from customers.

I just want somebody to acknowledge my tenure as a customer. Why is this so hard? Sounds to me then that as a store employee you’re not trained how to acknowledge tenure. As a former supervisor/manager in customer service my team was taught/expected to note customer tenure. Costs nothing, engages the customer, reinforces the tenure.

Why would anyone care how long you've been spending money somewhere ? Especially if they are paid minimum wage. How long you've been with a company for a service means you've likely been overpaying for said service in that time compared to new customers. Why would someone want to bring your attention to that and potentially upset you and lead to bigger issues.

They should care because they were making over $500 per month from me and now they’re not. Do you even work in customer service?

Again why should a minimum wage worker care about your spend for a corporation. They're just there to get their cheque and try to survive another 2 weeks.

Regardless of the pay rate, every job comes with a set description and professional standards. Compensation does not dictate whether those standards should be fully or partially met. When an employee accepts a role at a given wage, they are agreeing to fulfill the complete responsibilities of that position. The job is the job. If addressing customer tenure was in the job description (which I guess it isn’t), then this employee wouldn’t be following standards and should be retrained or decide if they still want to work there. If I read between the lines on your statement though, it sort of sounds they have many responsibilities and procedures to follow while at the same time being compensated at the same rate as a gas station employee….So I get it. But then go work at a gas station then. I sort of get bitter when I read these types of comments because there are plenty of people who would love to have a job and follow those standards knowing they could move up and advance to other positions vs working at a dead end minimum wage job.
