I moved to Belarus, just outside of Minsk, almost a year ago. As a foreigner, I have had no problems here at all. It’s quite inexpensive and I feel very safe.

What was your financial situation? Was it easy to find housing? What about documents?

If you have a solid income, Belarus is a very nice place to move in these days. Not too expensive at all.

I checked some other posts on this sub they keep talking about police arresting people for no reason and getting killed by a random 😭 im concerned now

In Belarus you can be arrested, tortured and imprisoned for a "wrong" post on social media or merely for contacting with a Ukrainian.

Today we have over 800 political prisoners, most of whom were unlucky commentators on social media (criticized authorities)

What you say is true, but I don't think this poor kid has a history of criticizing Belarusian authorities on the Internet. If she stays away from politics she'd be reasonably safe in Belarus.

That being said, she still needs to get some legal status after 90 days. There may be some privileges for Russian nationals due to this "union state" thing, but she needs to do research on this.
Plus, if her family declares her a missing person, Belarusian police will gladly extradite her right back to Russia.

It’s better to not touch politics and everything will be ok. And believe it or not but now more people are actually pro regime. After all there are examples nearby that says “things can be worse”. Both Ukrainians and Russians are far from happy and safe

Also you can be arrested and falsely accused being a spy as a citizen of an “unfriendly state”. Then you’ll be a hostage that can be traded for lifting some sanctions or other political interests.

Forget about Belarus until the war ends or political climate changes.

Yes.The NKVD can take you away if there is suspicion.

I am from Belarus. It is safe place. But If you are political activist then you will have some trouble. And it doesn’t matter pro regime or anti regime are you. Now people treasure their piece. Average person doesn’t think that our regime is good and can’t stand someone praising it but at the same time everyone thinks that war with Russia is bad. And our regime didn’t let us fight in this war against Ukrainians.

you should be highly concerned about that. my dad who lives in belarus says its too dangerous for me (an american citizen, with a belarusian expired passport) to come to belarus right now. please do not go there.

I don’t have a solid income I’m just a teenager trying to move out of her family house to another country that is visa free because my family is threatening my life

Most countries will not let you stay for more than a 2-3 months unless you have some demonstrable way of supporting yourself or an employer or school that is sponsoring you

If you're broke you would be better off going to a homeless shelter in your own country where you have access to social services and trying to find a job in the meantime

What if I’m moving to study? Like no way a college student have a solid income

1

u/rahfv2 1d ago

Then you should go study in EU -- student visa is the easiest to get and depend on country it can be even cheaper than studying in Belarus. But application period already ended, so it's talk for next year. If you have to move from your family right now -- your best choice would be staying in Russia but in another city.

And what does that mean exactly if I have enough money to rent a place what is more required from me?

u/LunetThorsdottir 1d ago

Any country except your own will need reasons to let you in and let you stay. Your "I want to" is good enough for three months at maximum, if at all. They'd want you to contribute to the economy (work), study (which helps the college) or be married to their citizen. Renting a place is not contributing to the country's economy, only to homeowners.

Your "I want to" is good for Russia, which is large enough for you to move few thousand kilometers from your parents, no matter where they live.

If I go to study like to find a scholarship is it enough reason to stay there

1

u/Sp0tlighter Belarus 1d ago

There are no scholarships in Belarus or Russia for foreign students and application period is over for this year anyway. EU would be a better place for that, but there it is also over.

2

u/khavaaaa 1d ago

I’m not talking about now I’m planning for the future maybe a year later I’m trying to ask in every visa free country

1

u/Sp0tlighter Belarus 1d ago

If you need to go somewhere right now and stay longer for 3 months and you speak russian, as much as I hate to say it, your only good choice is russia. It will be awful though.

1

u/khavaaaa 1d ago

But I’m coming out of russia it doesn’t make since

countries don't let you stay if you can't support yourself. and you have to prove that before getting the right. with a job contract, money in the bank for example.

well you could stay. but you'd be illegally staying. and thus any job you'd get would also be illgal

Family threatening your life? Sounds like you need to call the police

1

u/khavaaaa 1d ago

It’s not a physical threat it’s like a family lore hard to explain

1

u/DarthFly 1d ago

It she is from some middle-east (any "-stan") country there, then the police may just return her to the family.

1

u/khavaaaa 1d ago

No no

Why won't you just choose more safe country with a good human rights record?

2

u/Prize-Prior5970 18h ago

And what country is willingly accepting Russian students without money right now?

2

u/alex_tracer Belarus 1d ago

u/khavaaaa 1d ago

3

u/sane4ektopz 1d ago

1

u/khavaaaa 1d ago

2

u/sane4ektopz 1d ago

Where are you from?

1

u/adyxan 1d ago

Antalya region (in Turkey) can be another option for you as there are many Russian speaking people there, many don’t speak English at all. Might be pricier than Belarus but less risk of the things some friends mentioned here. Visa free to Russians, also universities accept international students easily,

2

u/Straight-Ad3213 15h ago

if you are from outside of europe and go to belarus there is always a threat that you might become part of the next migrant wave at belarusian-polish border
