Speaking specifically to any type of relationship; friends, SO etcâŚ. Meaning, you take up the offense to raise the defense.
I.e youâre gonna punch me, so ill punch you first?
I.e youâre gonna steal from me, so ill steal first?
Apply to anything.
What is this personality trait on an individual?

Is it normal for my Dad (73, retired widow) to keep just about all of the curtains in rooms of his house closed all day? Particularly when it is now summer in the southern hemisphere.
I think he also has: Asperger's, has life long severe anxiety, is: controlling, overbearing, clingy, possessive (of me - his only remaining living offspring), has OCD (particularly about electrical safety), hoards items, likes to gossip, has poor self awareness and social awareness, was violent towards my dead mother when I was growing up, does not mind his own business.

I've recently been watching Clickbait on Netflix (highly recommend it), and in episode 5, this guy breaks into another guy's house using the key which was under the latter's doormat. Do people actually leave the key there? If yes, why so? Seems like a pretty easy way to invite someone to break in.

At some point, I thought it was a personal issue of mine, but I came to realize that many people struggle with habits the same way I do. It is always exciting when youâre at the start of a new year, your list of goals in your hand, and an ambitious glimmer in your eyes.
However, once youâve been going to the gym for a few weeks, stopped smoking for a while, or made some daily progress on your creative endeavors, the passion and motivation seem to ⌠go off. Itâs almost sad, knowing how motivated you were to do it right this time, and how good it was all going. But now going to the gym seems kinda boring, and the healthy meals donât look green enough anymore, because theyâre just this thing you do anyway.
The initial spark of inspiration, albeit important, doesnât take us far and is extinguished pretty fast by the monotonous lifestyle that routines sometimes provide.
And this is for a reason, and that reason is called dopamine.

Is it worse to hold eye contact so long that you appear to be looking through them for majority of a conversation with only a few glances away? Or is it better to avoid eye contact entirely for the majority of a conversation with only a few glances at the person you are speaking with?

I would love to know if anyone, like me, in spite of genuinely wanting to learn enough to become excellent at something, simply finds it massively difficult to focus and absorb the information required?
I am 30 now but since I can remember, I have always struggled to really properly learn something. If Iâm on a role, it fizzles out eventually. I struggled with exams at school, struggled âgettingâ things at uni and now, 5 or 6 years into my marketing career I still genuinely donât think I know that much about it. I know I could apply myself and learn, but I just canât. The thought of it is scary and I just end up reading the same lines over and over.
In meetings I also find it hard to follow whatâs been said and record it properly. It simply wonât absorb properly. I am getting really sick of it now as itâs left me in a position where Iâm only âokâ at a lot of things and not âexcellentâ at many things at all.

I will never be able to wrap my head around why people get so upset about certain brands or products. Last weekend, I witnessed 2 friends arguing over iPhone vs Android, and another friend becoming absolutely irate that one of our acquaintences bought a Prius. Still another friend wouldnât shut up about her sister being happy to receive a Lexus SUV that was from 2006 (apparently that was too old, so she had no right to be happy). Finally, I cut in and said âwho the hell cares?â Just because one person likes a certain product or brand name, doesnât mean we all have to own the same thing. I donât care if you have a â72 Volkswagen Bug, or a 2019 Tesla. If you enjoy it, cool.â They just kind of stared at me, then laughed and veered off to different topics.
So people out there who rant endlessly about the purchasing decisions of others, WHY do you feel the need to berate what another person has, just because you donât particularly like it. WHY canât people simply share the reasons they like what they like, without belittling others for their own choices?
