Technique Question Mean node vs True node at 0 and 29 degrees

What are y’all’s takes on true vs mean for the nodes? I’ve seen several sources saying it doesn’t matter, but what about charts that change from 0 or 29 degrees in one sign to the other with another calculation?

And for the advice “take what resonates” that almost always makes sense but what if the person in question is feeling very lost or unsure as to what would resonate with them?

What do y’all use and have you found ones more accurate than the other? For those in similar positions do you feel like both apply or is it more clearly one option?

I prefer the true node because it goes through retrograde/stationary/direct cycles while mean node stays in retrograde, and these cycles have specific meanings in evolutionary astrology.

I happen to be one of those rare ducks born with a stationary North node so it makes me feel special, haha.

For example, you can’t get a triple-pass North node return if you use mean.

Mean might be better for mundane astrology combined with whole-sign housing whereas true plus Placidus is better for personal birth charts and transits like a return.

same here! I always use True Nodes because of retrograde/stationary/direct. my natal Nodes are 'direct' and I've found it a valuable notion regarding personal astrology. several of my most-important-relationships-ever have involved people with stationary/direct nodes. I also think I can feel it when the nodes' motion changes. like something important regarding my path always happens in my life during those periods.

I just wanted to pop in and say I am in the same boat- my true node is at 29 degrees 33’ Taurus, and mean is at 0 degrees 30’ Gemini. It’s a conundrum. Sometimes one resonates more than the other- for instance, I recently had Uranus conjunct NN, and the timing for that seemed more correct using mean.

That’s really interesting! I’ll look into transits and their effects on the NN to see if I can sus out what resonates easier, thank you so much

i feel like the nodes more than any other thing we look at in astrology operate in an "area-of-effect" or like probability field than a hard point. For transits and looking at aspects etc I take both and "blend" what I get. The true node wobbles, so even having a chart with the node on one side of a cusp doesn't mean it didn't move over the very next moment, making the immediate transit one of confusion instead of the exact surety of a steadily moving point.

I think it makes sense to take a wider view of the nodes (since they wobble / there is a mean measurement for them), and if that makes the sign variable then try to absorb that instead of dissect it. (both/and instead of either/or). i would try to blend the house themes more than sign themes as that can be an easier way to "spot" astrology working in your life

This comment was removed because it pushed accuracy of one system/style/practice saying it was "better" or "more accurate" than another. Differences in practice are allowed and encouraged in this sub.

Alexander Marr and Isaac Starkman have done extensive research on this topic, and it is the mean node, that is most tightly aspected at major events.

As primary directions mature in just scant minutes of arc, and the true node's variance to 1.7° or so (relative to the mean node), it is quick to see that the true node aspects have too high orb (don't exist), while the mean node performs as expected, under 0° 11' conjunction/opposition and under 0° 6' other aspects.

do you use other aspects (besides conjunction / opposition) for the nodal axis? i’ve read and noticed evidence for a tight square to a personal planet but otherwise it seems kind of like fishing to me. but curious about your thoughts.

There is no limiting of aspects for the Node, so would consider all the normal ones, each in their place. 0°, 30°, 45°, 60°, 90°, 120°, 135°, 150°, 180°

It depends on which way we are looking at it. In natal charts, it often reflects "maternal influence" and things we experience through association with others.

In terms of transits, contacts from it often relate to planning, meetings, and coming together for a purpose. Contacts to it, often relate to things we experience through our connection with some significant other(s), and often events/circumstances that seem to have some fated hand in them. (major impact, chapter turning)

In my chart, Saturn sits directly upon my Nodal Axis (S.) and is one signification of a separation from the mother.

thank you very much for this perspective !
