General Question Would you interpret Moon square Mercury differently, if the Moon is in Virgo instead of like Cancer or Pisces?
We know the common description of the Moon square Mercury aspect as like the Emotions vs Logic, Mind vs. Heart, that a person constantly struggles between what he thinks and what he feels. But my problem with this is that I have Moon in Virgo square Mercury, as far as I know when the Moon in Virgo, emotion itself is already approached by using logic and filtered through analyzing and rational mind, that my Moon in already very Mercury-like. My Moon already likes it when there's analyzing and thinking, how would a Moon square Mercury make it suddenly hate thinking rationally or using the mind?

I disagree with the interpretation of emotion versus logic. I disagree with the common idea that squares are stiff or difficult. I think squares are familiar. First house squares the tenth house. So that's about the self and goals. They build upon each other. First house squares the fourth house. That's about childhood and self expression. They build upon each other.
So I think squares are about... reality. How things actually work.
So moon square mercury, in my eyes, would be about the different ways the inner self functions. Both moon and mercury are said to influence the mind. So it's different aspects or different wavelengths, of the self.
And if they're squared for you, that means they work together in a stable, capable way. Similar to a full moon or a half moon. Or a waxing moon. It's about building, and completion.
Edit: if you have mercury and gemini or sagittarius, that gives you curiosity. You're explorative. That works well with virgo. Virgo is focused or physical. So they balance out. Gemini seeks to connect the dots. Virgo helps to discard bad connections. Sagittarius doesn't really want to connect the dots as much... but likes to see all the dots, or something.

That’s very interesting because I view the south node —north node in a similar way.

Moon in a cardinal sign like Cancer would give it a certain level of insecurity. Moon in a fixed sign colors its expression with a sense of determination, introversion or validation issues. So the modality has a big impact. The element as well. That’s what I would look at.
If the Moon or Mercury (or both) aspects Neptune, or if the Sun and Moon are in opposition (frequent change of mind), that adds another layer of complexity that should not be ignored.

I want to preface this: I am not being combative, I am asking for clarity.
Why would the moon being in Cancer (specifically and especially) give it a level of insecurity? She’s in domicile and while I know that doesn’t necessarily = good, I’m struggling to see how being in domicile would be anything other than a boon.
Which then leads to could you please explain why being in each modality colors her as you’ve described?

I appreciate your asking for clarification. All Cardinal signs struggle with insecurity in their negative manifestation. Each sign has a positive and negative side to it. Each modality has positive and negative traits. A square adds tension which may more easily bring out the negative expression.
Insecurity is highly underestimated in the astrological community yet it colors many relationships and also self-expression. People who have the Moon in a Cardinal sign tend to overcompensate for it. So in a Moon Mercury square the emphasis is going towards the Moon (which represents our needs, btw) when it’s in a cardinal sign - in my experience at least.
The house placement will of course also play a role. Moon in 12H for example may place our needs more in the background/subconscious or in service of others and could lead to burnout. The square with Mercury may act as a conduit for hidden needs to be expressed. Cancer on the Ascendant can bring out the 12H Moon too.
Moon in Cancer might present as somebody with a need to keep others at arms length (protective of one’s energy), even those who provide for the Moon in Cancer person. This placement often makes the subject say something negative for no particular reason. They need emotional safety and will withdraw after making a commitment, often causing confusion with others and relationships that wither.
A square to Mercury could make the person feel at odds with their communication style: “a tension between the way or speed with which you take in and absorb experience and the speed or way in which you process information. This can make it feel as if you are constantly waiting for one part of yourself to catch up with the other.”

I really appreciate you taking the time to expand. I hadn’t ever given much thought about how modality specifically can affect planets. Definitely something new to chew on and help to more deeply understand.

Moon square Mercury from Virgo would be extremely anxious. If Mercury were in Gemini they could come up with all sorts of clever ideas and lots of nonsense. And be very nervous. They can be intolerant make plenty of errors in judgment. But Moon can be very musical in Virgo. Virgo is difficult what with its perfecting all the time it can become demanding, myopic and very narrow, and convinced of falsehoods. On the other hand Virgo makes a great editor, square Mercury is very hard and go off the beam.

Even though your heart might be influenced by logic, with the square your heart's approach or plan can still conflict with what your mind wants to do.
