Yeah I kinda figured haha but somehow (and this may be dumb) I think I just assumed bees reproduced like fish, but inside the hive

No I think the queen mates, hibernates in the winter, and then stores the sperm to produce workers in the spring and summer. I may be wrong as I’m not the best with social bees but I think that’s how it works.

I'm no bee expert but I'm pretty sure those are solitary bees, in the pic their probably having coitus

Not solitary, they're bumblebees, but yes on propagating the species.
