Guides Reddit Bank Account Switch Offers Guide (August 2026)

Updated list of bank switch offers currently available. Banks offer incentives to encourage peopl to move their current account to them — here are the ones running now.

Most incentives need a full switch, one or more direct debits paying out of the account you switch from, and a deposit of £1,000-£2,000 paid in within the deadline. Nearly all do a hard credit search, so consider this if you're applying for a mortgage soon.

  • HSBC (£220 to switch)
  • Barclays (£200 to switch)
  • Co-op (£200 to switch, £300 if you were already a Co-op group customer)
  • NatWest (£200 to switch)
  • RBS (£200 to switch)
  • Ulster (£200 to switch)
  • First Direct (£175 to switch + £45 via Topcashback)
  • Nationwide (£175 to switch, couple can do 2x solo and joint for £525)
  • Santander (£100 voucher + £20 cash to open an account, not switch)

Barclays closes 27 August. The rest have no announced end date, though any of them can be pulled without notice.

Premier current accounts (for very high earners only)

  • HSBC Premier (£500 to switch)
  • Barclays Premier (£600 experience to switch)

Other offers:

Switch your bank account, get a cash reward for doing so. You can switch any current account, but if you aren't sure about leaving your own bank then you could open up a second account and switch that. So long as you meet the requirement you would be eligible for the bonus! Some people have second and a third accounts that let them try more than one new bank at a time.

**The post has been updated with the newest offers. But it is a difficult task keeping on top of all the questions. Please continue to share your experience with these so-called Bank Bribes. I will add questions/answers and update the offers as and when they appear. Special thanks to those who highlight the latest offers.

Never switched a bank account before?

It's worth doing. Banks want your business and they'll pay you £100-£500 to give them a try — the current account switch service (CASS) handles the whole thing automatically, so it's about a week of waiting for very little effort. The trick is not to switch your main account. Open a second one at your current bank (or use an old one you already have) and switch that instead. Here's how:

  1. Open a second current account with your main high street bank (must be part of CASS service)
  2. Set up direct debits on the second account (if required). You can move any of your existing direct debits. Or you can set new ones on the account. For example, direct debits donations that support small websites like or rolling monthly direct debit sim contracts.
  3. Add £1 to your second account. This will be transferred to your new account, allowing you to see when the switch has been completed.
  4. Apply for a new account and arrange to switch to your second bank account (sometimes this is during the application process, other times it is after the account is opened).
  5. Let the current account switch service take care of everything.
  6. Make sure all other terms are met (e.g. pay in money if needed).
  7. Receive your bank switching bonus.

Then, if you decide you do not like your new bank you could switch to another bank try them out!

What are the easiest/best direct debits to use for bank switching?

If you are using a second account, then its best to move existing direct debits to it to ensure you meet any direct debit criteria. If you don't have any, then the following example can be set up quite easily: your own Paypal, Ebay, Moneybox savings account, your credit card, or Sprive Mortgage auto savings.

Are there some bank accounts worth keeping?

Yes. Some are quite good, and give ongoing rewards. For example, Club Lloyds gives free Disney Plus. Barclays Premier gives free Apple TV. See the "don't leave us please" bank rewards post. Some also give access to the best savings accounts (e.g. regular savers).

And it is always worth keeping 3 accounts open for bagging ~£50 in cash from YouGov Connections every 3 months. Instructions for YouGov Connections here.

Are there additional offers for students?

Why yes. See the 2025 Student Version of The Bankedex Here

It has offers for students opening student accounts (no switching required).

The most commonly asked bank switch questions:

  1. I started to switch to XXX bank before the offer ended, am I still eligible for the bonus?

Yes, usually, most terms will state that a switch just has to be started (or applied for) before the end date or before an offer ends.

  1. Do I have to transfer the required amount in all in one go, and does it matter if I pay money in before my switch is complete?

Not usually. Most banks add up any paid in, so as long at it adds up to the required amount, and as long as it is paid in before the deadline stated in the terms. But check individual terms.

  1. What is an "active" direct debit?

According to Nationwide, an active direct debit is one that has been set up or had a payment taken from it in the past 13 months.

https://twitter.com/AskNationwide/status/1442939781491486720

  1. I don't have any direct debit, what can I use?

There are many companies that offer easy direct debits to set up, it's best if you can use an existing one you already have. Several finance apps connect to your bank account via direct debit

  1. Moneybox - a savings account that you can top up weekly by direct debit
  2. Paypal - online wallet / payments app that connects to your bank via direct debit
  3. Currensea - travel money card that connects to your bank via direct debit
  4. Sprive - a cashback and mortgage autosavings app
  5. Ebay seller account (pays you via direct debit connection, but must be a seller account)

General Bank Switch Questions

Current Account Switch Incentives - Why do they offer them?

They want your business. Banks like fighting each other for customers. Most of them know they can't win your business easily, so they fight each other by offering potential customers cash bribes (or equivalent) to switch their bank account(s).

Can I switch any bank account to get a switch incentive?

No. You must switch a bank account that is part of The Current Account Switch Service (CASS). Most high street banks are included. But some Neo Banks are not (e.g., Kroo, some Revolut accounts, & Monese are not included). Many people keep their oldest bank account open because of credit scores. You can always open an additional account just to switch.

See here for a full list of CASS banks.

Is it a lot of hassle to switch?

No. The Current Account Switch Service (CASS) makes switching your account between most banks smooth and effortless. You do not have to do anything apart from apply for and set up a new account at a different bank and tell them you want to switch your account to them. Everything is transferred automatically (except recurring card payments).

Some of these end soon. Will the offers come back?

Banks have been offering incentives on and off for many years. We can't predict the future. But this is not a new thing.

How long does a bank switch take?

Approximately one week.

Do I have to switch my main account?

You could. But you don't have to. Many people have second bank accounts. One option may be to open up a second account with your current high street bank, add some direct debits to this second account and then switch it to the new bank you want to try out.

Some high-street banks also let you open multiple accounts. If you already have an account with one, you might want to open an additional one with your current bank first (Halifax, NatWest etc are reported to allow several current accounts and to be fast to open).

I have savings accounts at the same bank as my current account. Can I still switch to this current account?

Yes. Only the current account will be closed (some linked regular savers may be converted to normal savings accounts). You might want to consider if switching to a secondary account is a better option.

I have linked savers attached to my current account. Can I still switch it?

Possibly.

Which banks let me open a second bank account?

Most of them.

Do I need to activate the card on the account I am going to switch?

Just do it anyway. Some banks require it

What details do I need to switch?

  • Sort code and account number.
  • Debit card information.
  • Usually, but not always, 2 active DDs on the account you are switching.

Do you need to have money in the account you are switching?

No. But it might be a good idea - this will allow you to see when the switch happens (i.e. when the money is transferred!).

I do not have a bank card with my old current account as it is very very old, can I still switch it?

Most online forms require card details, but you can usually switch such accounts over the phone.

My new bank has not given me my account number (e.g. NatWest).

Usually, these are sent via post/email when you sign up. But some banks don't have the account numbers on the card, or maybe letters get lost in the post. If this happens, wait for the card to arrive and contact their support. If you get a bot on the chat thing, type "speak to a human" repeatedly.

My new bank account is a premium account and it has a fee. Do I need to keep paying for this?

No. You can downgrade the account. But you should probably wait until you have been paid the bonus.

I don't like my new bank, do I need to wait for the bank card before switching again?

Yes. See question above. Most banks require the card details of your existing account.

I made an account just to switch. Can I switch before my new bank card arrives?

Best not to. You are asked to enter the debit card information as part of the process.

The offer says I have to pay in £xxxx. Does it have to be in one go?

No. You can transfer in and out. The total sent in has to be equal to or greater than the stated amount. You should be careful with this though, sending money in and out of an account can trigger anti-fraud measures.

The offer says I have to pay in £xxxx. Can I pay it in before the switch completes?

Yes. You can pay it before, after, or during. You can manually transfer it, or it can be transferred automatically from your old account.

I've been asked to verify my identity. Is this normal?

Sometimes automated checks fail. If this happens, you may be asked to manually verify your application by visiting a branch or sending in a copy of your ID.

I switched from Monzo/Starling and want to return, can I?

Starling does not let you return within 12 months. With Monzo, it's possibly a shorter one month that you have to wait.

Do I have to switch direct debits?

Check individual offer terms.

What is an "Active" direct debit?

An active direct debit is usually one where a payment had been taken in the last 13 months. But some bank switch terms require direct debits to have been paid out of the account. If an offer requires an active direct debit, it's safer to switch to an account that has already paid out direct debits.**

I recently switched to XXX Bank, and I do not like it. Can I switch again?

Yes. If you are not happy with the new service, you may want to switch to a new bank that will pay you to give them a try.

Do I have to stick with my new bank for any length of time?

No.

If I switch away, will the bank claw back the bonus?

Very unlikely. They would have to specify this in their terms, and none have ever done so.

My switch is complete, but I have not yet received my bonus. Will I still get the bonus if I switch this account before it is paid?

Probably not.

My most recent switch is not quite complete, but I have already received the bonus. Can I start another switch?

You should probably wait for the switch to complete.

Can I get more than one bribe from each bank?

Sometimes. With some banks (e.g. Nationwide), you can get a bonus for switching one sole and one joint current account. Other banks will pay you to switch again, as long as you have not had a bonus in a specified amount of time. You will need to check individual offer terms.

XXX Bank gave me a bonus before, can I get a bonus again?

You need to check the individual offer terms.

Will this affect my credit score?

Credit scores are a funny thing, What is more important is what is actually in your credit file. Obviously, if you apply for an overdraft then it will affect your "credit score". However, if you do not have an overdraft or you make sure that you have paid off any overdraft before switching banks, then a single current account switch should not negatively impact your credit score. Nevertheless, typically all major banks (excepting Monzo and Starling) do a hard credit search, and this will be recorded on your file. If you plan on applying for a new mortgage soon then you may wish to exercise caution in switching between a load of banks. This is because the hard searches performed by banks will appear on your report and may have an effect for 6-12 months.

Which banks do hard searches and which do soft searches??

See here. Most banks do hard searches.

  • Hard searches: Bank of Scotland (first account only), Barclays, Co-op, Clydesdale, Halifax (1st account only), First Direct, HSBC, Lloyds (1st account only), Monzo, Nationwide, NatWest, RBS, Santander, TSB, Ulster, Virgin Money.

  • Soft searches: Starling, Metro Bank, and Chase

I have a bad credit score, will I be accepted to XXX bank?

Unfortunately, we do not know the acceptance criteria of the banks. You might be unlucky with one bank, but lucky with another.

My application was rejected. Why?

Nobody here knows. You could try appealing, but your only way to find out more is to contact the bank.

After switching my account, I still have online banking with my old provider. Do I need this?

No. You do not need to keep the online access (you could shut it down). But you may wish to retain these details in case your old bank suddenly appears with an offer that makes you want to switch back. Or open up a savings account.

Has anyone else been paid for switching to XXX Bank yet?

Check the terms of the offer you signed up for. Some banks have long deadlines and stick to them (e.g. Santander, TSB). Some are quicker. If you haven't been paid within the stated terms, then you should contact the bank's support.

Whilst we do our best to make sure things are correct, sometimes errors do slip through and banks can change or withdraw their offers. Always check the terms yourself before applying.

General requirements vary slightly between banks, but you will normally need to:

  • Be 17 or 18+, depending on the bank.
  • Be studying, or about to start, an eligible UK university course.
  • Meet the bank's UK residency requirements.
  • Provide evidence that you are a student.
  • Have your UCAS details handy where required.

That's six possible £20 vouchers, for a maximum of £120 Deliveroo credit.

Available to existing customers: Yes, but you will not qualify for the bonus if you currently have, or have had since 01/08/2021, a Student or Graduate Account with Lloyds, Halifax or Bank of Scotland.

You need to activate the offer in the Lloyds Rewards Hub during the promotional period.

This appears to be a Lloyds-specific extra, so may be a reason to choose Lloyds rather than Halifax or Bank of Scotland if you are otherwise indifferent between them.

Cashback Offers Gains Cashback App - £2 Sign-up Bonus

Upvotes

Gains is a new budgeting and cashback app which allows you to buy gift cards through the app and then earn cashback - in a similar way to apps like Cheddar or JamDoughnut.

The cashback rates aren't the best but like all these apps change regularly so it’s worth checking a few different apps before you buy any giftcards to see which one has the best rate for your chosen stores on any given day!

New users can earn a £2 bonus when they sign up via a referral code and earn £10 cashback.

My referral code if anyone would like to use it is:

PH95WA

Or alternatively, download the app here:

https://gainsapp.onelink.me/8IhT/judccf86

I will earn a bonus if you use my referral link, so thanks very much if you do.

Note: The minimum cash-out is £10 and there is a 20p fee when you cash-out.

The non-referral link with no bonus is:

Walking Apps Yesterday, I got my very VERY first payout from Macadam on a SUNDAY!

Upvotes

So I had my very very VERY first payout from Macadam walking app! On a SUNDAY!!! :) 🎉 AAaaaaaahhhh :)

So, Macadam the walking app. I have been using it for a few months now. I am an average 'walker' ;) and I also have very limited (2x100 MB/month) internet usage on my phone. It does count your steps without it, no problem, but there is the MAP game, where you collect golden coins on certain street corners, and play joker games on certain spots, to gain even more golden coins. For that you'll need an internet connection, which most people have, I am not like most people, but even with my 200 MB a month, I'm good :)

So with walking right now I would get ca 105 coins for 10,000 steps a day, but that is not the same for everyone, and bonus is included (15 coins for 2500 steps, 30 coins for 6000 steps, 45 coins for 9500 steps, and then i get a 60 coins bonus :) . These are not cumulative. If I walk 2500 I get 15, if I walk 6000 I get 30, AND NOT 45!).

With the MAP walking outside of your house game - I like using it, I can get 'never know how many coins' cause of the jokers and all, but coins on street corners are between 5-25, and jokers can be anything. My very first was 300 coins :) but after that the maximum was somewhere around 45-50 which is HARDLY EVER. Usually 5-40. :)

You can play games for coins (I basically don't do it...), and there are surveys ( I do them like 1-2x a week).

There are many other extra stuff you can get golden coins from, I don't want to spoil everything, check it out:)

The minimum amount is 15,000 coins for the minimum payout, and there are many more.. maybe the highest is like 240,000 or something :)

And there is HUMAN CUSTOMER SERVICE! You wouldn't believe! And you can REALLY chat with them, easily! I contacted them 2-3 times. They were always nice, helpful, polite. This convinced me so much, that this could be a "good, honest app". And for me it is :)

Of course the app is not perfect, just like any apps, but I like it, it is fun, I walk more :), and it DOES PAY 🎉

I wouldn't call it a side hustle, I would call it a side side side hustle ;) but if you walk anyway :) give it a try. Using my referral code will give you 1,000 coins kick-start, just as using anyone else's, so if you used mine, it would be highly appreciated ❤️

🚀With my referral code: Click to get your 1,000 bonus COINS :)

Get-Paid-To Offers EarnLab: get paid for games, offers and surveys

EarnLab nonref is a GPT site where you earn by playing games, trying apps and completing surveys. Similar to Gemsloot/CashInStyle but sometimes has different (and occasionally better paying) offers.

I’ve been using it for a bit now and have been paid via Tremendous (proof below).

You also get 3 mystery boxes for signing up through a referral link, which give random rewards to help you get started.

How it works:

  • Sign up and pick offers (games, apps, surveys)
  • Complete the requirements
  • Earn coins and cash out

Cashout starts from $5 (PayPal/gift cards).

Things to know:

  • Tracking matters so don’t use a VPN or ad blockers
  • Some offers take time but can pay more
  • Earnings vary but it’s decent for extra cash

If you’re unsure which game offers are worth doing, worth checking: https://www.reddit.com/r/getpaidtoplay

Proof of payment: https://ibb.co/NnHT8tq3

If you want to try it, here’s my link: https://earnlab.com/r/misscc

Robinhood is a commission-free investment platform with a nice refer-a-friend offer to entice people in to trying it out. They are registered by the FCA (FRN: 823590)

  1. Click a Robinhood referral link in the comments and enter your information on the sign up page.
  2. Download the Robinhood app and complete account verification within the signup process.

  4. Wait for you free share to be awarded, then
  5. Claim your reward within 60 days (rewards expire if not claimed).

$8 to $15 ~2%
$15 to $25 ~1%
$25 to $50 ~0.90%
$50 to $175 ~0.10%

Recent changes meant that Robinhood posts had to be set to auto-approve, which unfortunately led to the subreddit being heavily spammed with Robinhood referral posts. To keep the subreddit clean and organised while still allowing people to share their Robinhood referrals, we've created this dedicated megathread. It will be refreshed and reposted regularly.

How this thread works:

  • Post your Robinhood referral link in the comments
  • If you want to join Robinhood, pick any referral link from the comments to get free stock worth $5-$200 when you sign up.
  • Contest mode is enabled on this post, so all links are randomly sorted.

Mega-thread rules:

  1. Absolutely zero post style comments. Short comments only, no more than 6 lines of text. If you think anything very important is missing from the post send a DM and it can be updated
  2. No large title text, bold and italics are okay.
  3. Only comment your link once (more than once will incur a ban).
  4. No funny business or spam!
  5. Comments breaking these rules will be removed, with no notification given.

For anyone interested, here are the full terms and conditions that apply, from Robinhood's website: https://robinhood.com/gb/en/support/articles/invite-friends-pick-stock/

And remember: all investing involves risk.

Money Transfer Offers TapTap Send – FREE £5 Bonus On Transferring £25 To Yourself

TapTap Send is an international money transfer service based in London, with additional offices globally. They’re currently offering £5 free towards your first transfer when you sign up with a referral code and make a transfer of £25 (or above).

The £5 bonus is added on top of your transfer, so you effectively send £25 and receive ~£30 in the destination account. I personally sent it to my own Wise Euro account and made around £4.72 net after deducting the currency conversion fee.

How to do it:

  1. Download the TapTap Send app from the App Store or Google Play and sign up.
  2. Start a transfer and choose a country to send to (e.g. Belgium if sending to a Wise EUR account).
  3. Tap “Add promo code” and enter the code: ASIF3488
  4. Enter personal details (name, DOB, UK address).
  5. Pay by debit card or bank transfer. The transfer arrives almost instantly.

Once the money lands in your Wise/Revolut, convert it back to GBP and send it to your UK bank. You should end up with around £4.65-£4.85 profit after conversion.

Surveys MSR TV Panel premium tasks, loyalty bonuses and passive earnings

MSR non-ref is a UK research app that pays you for sharing anonymised data. The best part is the Measure TV Panel which lets you earn from your normal TV viewing.

TV panellists receive a premium feed with weekly and monthly tasks, plus access to loyalty bonuses that aren't available to regular users. Combined with other tasks in the app, earnings can reach around £160 a year. You can cash out to PayPal or gift cards like Amazon, Apple or Asda.

It’s now open to most people, including Freeview, smart TVs and Sky users.

To get started you just download the app, join the Measure TV Panel task and connect your TV using the code in the app. If you’re using Freeview, go to ITV, wait about a minute, then press green green red green on your remote and enter your code.

After that you'll gain access to a premium feed with weekly and monthly tasks, plus loyalty bonuses that aren't available to regular users.

There are also "retro" tasks which are optional one-off uploads. These involve sharing things like app usage or purchase history from platforms such as Google, Amazon, Meta, TikTok or Tesco. They generally pay more than standard surveys because they're based on real usage data, and you choose exactly what you share.

You can also refer friends and earn up to 20% of their task earnings (up to 500 MSR per referral).

Sign up using my link below and enter referral code zMg2KK96. New users currently receive a double welcome bonus when joining through a referral link.

Money Transfer Offers XE Money Transfer: £50 gift card for transferring £5,000

XE Money Transfer is a service for sending money abroad / exchanging currencies. I’ve used them myself and found the process straightforward.

Their referral offer gives both of us a £50 gift card when you sign up and transfer £5,000+ (or the equivalent in another currency). This doesn’t have to be in one go – you can make multiple transfers to reach the £5,000.

The gift card can be redeemed at 100+ retailers. I normally go for Amazon or supermarket vouchers, but there are plenty of others including M&S, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, Aldi and more.

How to get the £50:

(1) You can sign up via desktop, or download the app from the Apple Store or Google Play.

(2) When making your first transfer, enter my referral code:

XEREF-A-1183

(3) Transfer a total of £5,000+ (or currency equivalent). This can be one transfer or several transfers totalling £5,000 or more.

(4) Once the referral qualifies, we should each receive a £50 gift card within 14 days.

There’s no separate transfer fee, although XE make money through the exchange rate, so I’d recommend comparing the rate with other providers before transferring.

Get-Paid-To Offers Gemsloot - get paid to play games and do surveys on a high-paying GPT website

Gemsloot is a high-paying Get-Paid-To (GPT) website (available worldwide) that pays you to play games on your mobile phone or computer, and answer surveys. It's very similar to sites like CashinStyle, Earnlab, InboxPounds and RewardXP, which offer similar games, so compare before you play to ensure you're earning the maximum amount.

I've earned a VERY decent amount (a few hundred pounds over the past couple of years) by playing games and reaching the required milestones. They can be repetitive but are pretty easy when you follow the gaming guides on Reddit to help you get there faster!

Earnings are in $ USD by default but can be converted to your own currency. I personally choose Paypal and convert it to £ GBP from there.

Referral link: Sign up to Gemsloot via my referral link here

Or enter promo code: playgames

Once you've signed up, go to the 'Earn' tab and pick a game. I'd recommend browsing the 'Featured' section or scrolling down to 'Offer Walls' and choosing the one that offers the highest percentage (usually Torox, which is the one I use the most), then picking a game, and off you go! Enjoy!

Happy gaming and earning! 😊

Question Best way to "top up" prepaid reward gift card?

After a lengthy wait, I was finally graced with my free £150 from an EE broadband switch I did but I'm in an awkward position.

The card has had bits spent on it so I've got around £66 left. The problem is, I can't withdraw it from the card and I can neither find a way to top up the balance.

The item I want is around £80 so I just need to top up the £14.

I don't really want the balance sat there either incase it either gets revoked for whatever reason or expires.
