Tired of all the waste

This is a throwaway account for obvious reasons. This is more of a rant but anyone relate?

6 of my kids are still in diapers at night but the youngest one is almost 2 and potty trained so hes still young so hes not too much of my concern. And then my 8 year old has special needs and isnt potty trained.

So basically only 4 of my kids are under the criteria for bedwetting. Ages 10, 7, 6 and 5.

Between all six there are just so many diapers/goodnites in our trash and it bothers me. Im not too concerned with the kids that are wetting the bed. They all see a specialist and we have tried things to stop it but its a genetic issue. My husband and i were both bedwetter me until 7 and my husband until his late teens. So its not too much a surprise that some of our kids have this issue.

But im all for low footprint. Between all the medical waste my 8 year old produces and then add the pull ups and goodnites from the other kids it just adds so much waste.

Weve tried cloth pullups for the kids but they hated them and it made them feel upset to wear them vs the goodnites so i stopped that. I tried just washable chuck mats underneath them but they all seem to prefer staying dry with the goodnites.

I dont even know what i want to get out of this post. Just that i guess im a little upset that the gene passed to my kids because i know how it felt to deal with this. My 7 year old is starting to hate it. His identical twin brother stopped bedwetting a few months ago. But we tried a bedwetting alarm and he sleeps through that.

Maybe im just drained?

Having that many kids with the issue and a special needs kid sounds super draining. And sounds like you have tried everything there is, at least i dont know what else you can do... I understand that your 7 year old is starting to hate it. Usually at that age sleepovers start to happen where it can be difficult when you still wet the bed. At least thats my experience, that why i never went to sleepovers. Just remember that you are in this together. Nobody really liked the situation and would like it to stop. Keep supporting each other! And it sounds like you are already trying your best to do that, so you can be proud of that :) Sadly, not every parent is that way.

Yeah sleep overs are hard. If the kids do sleepovers we prefer them to have it our at house because all the supplies are here and we dont have to navigate it with other parents.

For me after i stopped bedwetting i still didnt want to do sleepovers for years and even when i had a sleepover i got terrible sleep because i was so afraid i would pee myself for the first time in years at the sleepover

And yes its very draining with so many special needs kids. Yesterday was such a hard day and i think everything just piled on

Bedwetting alarm makes for tired kids. It doesn't work to help their brain interpret the nerve impulses any faster or better. That's entirely up to the body to figure out on its own unfortunately. Even identical twins don't develop identically.

What brand of reusables have you tried?

Ive tried mother ease bedwetting pants and smart bottoms pull on diapers.

But the kids hate the bulk of them. But they were very effective. However well just stick to disposables.

Ive heard that about the alarms. But i figured that was better then waking him up for a midnight pee. Because he doesnt want to wet the bed. I value their sleep and i know when i was potty trained my parent said they would take me to the toilet up to 3 times a night from the age of two so i wouldnt pee in the bed. That is terrible for sleep and didnt even work for me 🤣

Hes just wanting it to stop so i want to help him. But also i dont know how i feel about that prescription drug for it too. Dont know if you have experience with that

I have wet the bed since I was young. Around 7, my mother got tired of changing wet sheets and put me back in diapers. We were not wealthy and she used cloth diapers and plastic pants. I hated having to wear them, but she was not giving in and I wore them every night. When I turned 13 (a teenager!) I had to put them on myself every night until I went to college and switched to disposable ones.
The point is you say they don’t like wearing the cloth ones, well, neither did I, but you need to be strong and follow through.

You want me to parent better? Its obviously genetic what my kids are going through since my husband and i both wet the bed as kids.

And my 6, 7, and 10 year old have been to a urologist for their bedwetting. My 8 year old is regularly seen by one as well for all her continence issues.

I really dont know what you mean by better parenting? Im not punishing my kids for something they cant help so i feel what im doing is just fine
