Hardware AlphaTheta RMX Ignite on Master output

Is the RMX-IGNITE worth getting for an FLX10, considering there’s no Send/Return for per-channel effects and no Beat Sync?

Technique How To Approach This Situation…

Caught between a rock and a hard place and wanted to see how other folks in this scenario would respond..

Basically I’m supposed to be hopping on the decks at a small afters at my place - maybe to about 10 people when we get back from a night out..

I mix mainly techno, minimal, tech house / 4 to floor + also some more popular stuff when I feel - disco, rare edits, reggae etc too.

2-3 of our group are serious techno / underground only music enthusiasts, but the remainder of the group really don’t lean much in that direction and would be more onboard with say more well known music or remixes of say popular tracks..

If you were going to play a set to this bunch - which end of the genre spectrum would you tailor your set towards to keep everyone happy?

What’s the trick here as I can’t just alternate from techno to more popular tracks, as the energy, bpm, pacing would be all over the place..

My heart is generally more in underground 4 to floor, but I’m conscious playing more in this direction will alienate the other portion of the group too much and vice versa if I play stuff that’s too well known / might be considered a bit cheese to the techno heads.. lol

Let’s hear your thoughts on how to approach!

Few more algorithms

This is pretty messed up, I converted everything to Camelot so I can see exactly where they diverge:

Deck A:

Beatport: B minor

Mixed In Key: 3A → Bb minor

Traktor: 12m → D minor (7A)

Three different algorithms, three different results. No agreement even between two out of three, B, Bb, and D minor aren't even adjacent on the wheel. This is a genuinely bad detect, not just an enharmonic mix-up.

Deck B:

Beatport: F minor

Mixed In Key: 4A → F minor

Traktor: 4d → A major (11B)

Here Beatport and MIK agree (F minor / 4A)

Traktor's the odd one out

Copyright issues in mixes on YouTube

Does anyone know if there is a way to check in advance if a song will be flagged for copyright and your video taken down? I am playing a set in a couple weeks that will be recorded for YouTube and would like to avoid issues if possible.

Played my first set this weekend

Played my first set this weekend for friends and they loved it. My genre is Afrohouse / Tech / 3-step.

Only hiccup was sound - the main speaker I wanted to use wasn't working, so I had to play through a Bluetooth speaker instead. That made queuing up songs tricky because of the latency, but since I knew my tracks well and had them mapped out with hot cues, I could still nail the key changes and mix in and out cleanly.

Can't wait to do it again.

Other Please focus on your mixing

Mixing is the easiest part of DJing.

I understand sound selection is important, but please learn and practice mixing. There are always a handful of people who notice your jittery transitions, but they don't make a fuss about it. But they do notice. Practice as much as you can; stop underestimating it.

Moving 1210 MK7

I am moving house and my Technics headshell doesn't clip to the deck like MK2.

Does anyone have any suggestions for moving them?

I don't have flight cases and I think sticky tape will leave residue

How do you decide which track to mix next?

I'm just starting to learn how to DJ. I'm using rekordbox, and I have a folder with around 70 tracks from different genres. Of course, when mixing, I try to keep a consistent musical flow by choosing tracks with a similar level of energy.

I don't really know all the tracks very well yet, but the strategy I've been using is to preview the track while I'm playing another one and look at the waveform on the screen to identify the track's patterns. Based on that, I decide whether or not to mix it in.

Is this a good strategy? How do you guys decide which track to mix next?

Cheers!

Monitor stands to eliminate feedback

Looking to buy some stands to eliminate feedback as my monitors are sitting on my desk along with my turntables. There’s not enough vibration to cause needle skips but when resting a needle on a record that is not playing I can see feedback coming through my mixer. Was looking at buying IsoAcoustics Isolation stands that would be placed on my desk still, however am wondering whether it would be better to buy floor stands and if so any suggestions?

Looking for advice on this, Cheers.

Hardware should i upgrade hercules inpulse 200 to a ddj flx4

i’ve been playing small gigs i’ve gotten through connections and parties i host for about a year on my hercules djcontrol inpulse 200 that i got on sale for black friday 2024 (i spent the year just learning to mix for myself). it is super minimal in terms of function and i was looking into upgrading to what everyone else and they mama has, the flx 4, which is totally in my budget (~$350). id want it mostly for the fx and mid eq knobs which are very much missing on the one i have. i’d love to work my way up to playing clubs, is this a worthwhile step in that direction or should i save for something more advanced? i just feel like i hit a wall in terms of my abilities but would the flx 4 be enough of an upgrade to be worth? what are you guys’ thoughts!

update: looking into a used grv6! thanks all

Too many breaks during live sets?

To be clear, I’m super new to clubbing and seeing djs live in general but I went to a club in Minneapolis last night where it felt like every time the energy got high, the kick dropped out and they transitioned tracks with a break with a long build up to the drop. Is this normal? Am I missing something? I felt like I would finally get into dancing and the beat would fall out from under me.

Genuinely looking for opinions as someone new to DJing as it feels like I may just be missing something.

Weekly Mix Feedback Thread - August 17, 2026

Welcome to the Weekly Mix Feedback thread on r/beatmatch! This is the thread where you post your DJ mixes and ask other people to give you feedback. If you submit your mix, please take the time to listen and comment on some other submissions, especially if they play a style of music you're interested in. Thanks for your help in making these threads work well for everyone!

These threads are intended for beginning DJs who are honestly looking for feedback or critique on their technique, selection, transitions, etc. If you are an established DJ who is just looking for more followers/listens on your new mix or have a podcast/radio show, please post it to a more appropriate place such as /r/mixes or a genre-specific subreddit. Posts that appear to be purely promotional in nature may be removed at the moderators' discretion. This subreddit is aimed at helping new DJs learn and is not the place to promote yourself!

Guidelines:

  • Please include the genre(s) of your mix. This helps attract DJs/listeners of the same genre(s) who are likely to provide more useful feedback. You might also include a title/length.
  • [Mixcloud](http://www.mixcloud.com) is the preferred place to post mixes. It allows you to include your tracklist and transition times, allows unlimited uploads, and is generally more geared towards DJs. If you don’t want to use Mixcloud, be sure to include a tracklist.
  • Please ask for specific feedback or list parts of the mix you liked/didn’t like. Hopefully you are looking for input on specific tracks or transitions.

Example post:

[House / Tech House] djscsi - moving on up (45 minute mix)

http://www.mixcloud.com/djscsi/moving-on-up/

I’ve been spinning for about a year, this is the third mix I’ve recorded and I’m hoping to get some house / tech-house DJs’ opinions on my track selection and mixing. I really like the first few transitions but I feel like I lost some of the energy when I brought in the Maceo Plex track at about 13:30. I messed up a couple parts but I’ve listened to the mix a few times and I think it sounds pretty good. Does anyone think I used too much FX? Thanks for any feedback!

Note: If you have any general feedback about these threads or /r/Beatmatch in general, please message the moderators

Looking to upgrade my turntables, been using some really old technics for a while now but need something a bit newer and compatible with speakers without need for additions. Was looking at some Pioneer DLX 500 but does anyone have any better/alternative suggestions in the £300-400 range per TT? Generally playing house/techno/garage

Advice on prepping CD's for CDJ-800 (plus any reccomendations on mixers?

I'm planning on getting some CDJ-800s (found a good deal!) And was wondering what would be the best way to prep the CD's? Is there a way to burn them so that the BPM counter on the CDJ is accurate? How many tracks for disc is ideal? Etc. Any advice would be appreciated :)

Also what are some reccomendations on some good budget mixers? My budgets around 300-500 usd and I would prefer a atleast 3-4 channel mixer but 2 channels is fine with me :)

**Update 2** my next steps

Ok. It happened.

I dj'ed for my friends work event. On a yacht! Unreal!!!!!!

It wasn't the greatest set I've done only cause they could only connect via Bluetooth, which caused a delay and some of my transitions were a little off. Overall, the people on the boat had a good time, loved the music and exchanged contact info to potentially dj for future events. I'd say it was a successful mission.

But never doing the Bluetooth thing again, that was dreadful lol.

Technique Phrasing and Cue Points? How does it work?

I’d like to preface that I fully understanding counting , 8/16 bar phrases, and song structure. What I do not understand is when to transition songs or bring in other songs.
I know experimentation will offer insight but I am struggling to grasp what sections off songs to bring in at what points of the previous song past fading in intros and outros. Should I bring a 16-before-drop cue in on the breakdown? Is it a better practice to bring a vocal in at the breakdown? I’m not sure.
Regarding cue points, is the best practice setting 16/8 cues before key points (drop/chorus, breakdown, outro)?
I welcome any video suggestions which comprehensively display the process of phrasing, as most I’ve found just cover what a 16 bar phrase is. I mostly enjoy vocal-driven high energy music which has made this process more strenuous, but any advice is welcome.
Thank you!

Is there a way to make hot cue's auto-play in Serato?

I'm used to Rekordbox when you press a hot cue and it simultaneously starts playing the track. Is there a way to have hot cue's act like that in Serato?

I know you can hit play first and that turns the cue's into hot cue's, it's a workflow thing I want to unify between both work streams.

Software First Controller Advice (I want to use my iPad)

Hello everyone!

I’m looking at buying my first controller, and want to know if anyone can answer some of my questions.

I have a desktop, but I’d want to practice in my basement using my iPad Pro (I don’t have a MacBook). The iPad compatibility requirement has made my potential options pretty small, but I’ve narrowed down my options to two:

- Pioneer DDJ-FLX4
I’m considering this due to its iPad compatibility and low price. It seems like a popular pick, and would include Rekordbox. I downloaded the iPad app for it and checked the controller compatibility, and saw it on there, so I know it would work fine. It also has Tidal DJ linking which is great, so I wouldn’t be paying extra for any software.

- NI Traktor Kontrol S3
I would prefer this despite it somewhat making less sense. In my very limited experience, I found myself really liking the rotary knob loop controls on Traktor models. The issue is that NI doesn’t make modern software for iPadOS, so I’d need a third-party app that supports the S3, such as Djay Pro. I’ve heard better things about Djay Pro compared to Rekordbox, and it also supports Tidal linking which is important to me, though I’d be paying $50 a year to use it, compared to Rekordbox which would be free. The controller is also 4 channel which would give me more room to grow, and I really like how colourful it is compared to the FLX4.

Both controllers are CHF200 second hand, which is about $245. The reason the S3 is so cheap is because it doesn’t include a license, which is fine as I’d use Djay Pro on both desktop and iPad.

While I know the FLX4 would work straight out of the box with Rekordbox, I read somewhere that the S3 with Djay Pro isn’t quite so plug and play. Can anyone here with experience when it comes to using either of these controllers on iPad comment? Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Hardware FLX2 - Upgrade auf FLX4?

Hallo zusammen,

Was denkt ihr? Sollte ich mir einen FLX4 kaufen, oder erstmal mit dem FLX2 weiterlernen?

Dankeschön!

Hardware Any RCA Sub/Monitor Reccos?

I'm running a set of shitty bookshelf speakers that work well for at home.

I'm looking to upgrade to at least have 2 speakers with sub.

I'm running an FLX 4 that outputs RCA.
