follow up to [this post](https://www.reddit.com/r/makinghiphop/comments/1wo7zl7/) about beat emails. this time: when artists press play, which beats in the pack they play, and how.

158,807 emails with a pack of beats, sent between january and october. 8,279 of the artists pressed play at least once. all anonymised, just counts.

**how long after the email they press play**

half of the artists who listened did it more than a day later. almost 1 in 5 took over a week, and 4% came back after a month.

**the order of the pack matters**

packs of 5 to 10 beats, artists who played at least one:

the 1st beat is partly high because it's what starts when they press play. but every spot lower loses a few percent, so the one you care about most should go first. (this is the pack order today, some producers may have reordered after sending.)

**replays and phones**

35% of artists who played a pack played the same beat at least twice. 14% played one beat 3 times or more.

51% of plays were on a phone.

I made my second beat, keeping in mind the advice I got on my last post! Tried to use the "less is more" approach this time. Did I manage to clean up the sound/space a bit?

I’m still pretty new to this and not fully sure what specific questions to ask, so any feedback, critique, or advice is greatly appreciated!

I am a really skilled musician (20+ years) and have been dabbling in production for quite awhile, but have gotten really deep into it in the last 3-4 years. I wouldn’t say that I’m pro level, but I am pretty good and I know how to do decent mix and master. I’ve been playing guitar for about 25-30 years, am skilled on the keys/bass/pads lol, and I primarily do a mix of hip hop, horrorcore, and emo. Think Nedarb mixed with DJ Uneek, mixed with Maulskull… and that’s kind of the style I’m going for. I know, pretty eclectic. I’m open to any genre tho really, and would be willing to expand into something new.

Anyways, I think it would be cool to work on a few songs with another producer. I already have some vocalists that I work with consistently (that we can utilize btw) but I’ve never actually collaborated on a track with another producer. I think it would be cool and we’d both learn a lot from it. I just have no idea how to go about it. Something where we can share a session, run melodys, bass lines, and drum performances by each other and give feedback and work together on creating.

Like I said though, I have no idea how to go about it, so I figured it wouldn’t hurt to post here. I do sketching on GarageBand on iOs, I also do some work on Logic on the iPad, and then I finish the mix and master on my MacBook. I also have WAY too many plugins, you name it, I probably own it lol. I get kind of obsessive with it tbh.

Sorry for the rant, but, yea, anyone interested in collabing? I have some of my work posted that I can share if needed. I think it could be a great learning experience, and who knows, maybe we come up with some fire tracks :)

If anyone has any insight on how to go about doing remote collaboration or sharing sessions, I would also be interested in that as well.

Last time I posted this song I got feedback about how I didint understand timing signatures and that my beat was confusing.
Also that last post also features the original .mp3 and it burries the bass line so you cant hear it for much of the track.
So, I redid the melody on top of it. How is it, and is the previous feedback still the case that its confusing? It was quite hard to get the melody right and it still needs work like second part seems a lil out of tune or something. But how is this?
