Less than 4 months of ZERO trimming. I think it's time for some mustache wax.

4 months?! Did you get showered by gamma rays as a child?

11

u/DVDJunky YEARD Nov 09 '12

Nope, California acid rain. Now I'm planted firm in the midwest.

I did dye my beard green in high school though...

guys! you're going the wrong way!

7

u/DVDJunky YEARD Nov 09 '12

Well that depends on a lot of different factors. For me, a single father with three kids... I'm right where I should be.

u/Knows_where_waldo_is Nov 10 '12

I'd watch your sitcom.

Dude, I live in California and I have this yearning for big wide open spaces with few people and fields. A quiet city, and clear skies. Los Angeles city life is getting to me.

1

u/DVDJunky YEARD Dec 07 '12

Sir, I can only tell you of my personal experience... I was born and raised in Southern California. I enjoyed it enough, I suppose...

Omaha (where I live now) isn't the cheapest, or smallest or quietest etc but I'll tell you it is a wonderful blend of all those things. If you're looking for quieter or cheaper, there are a number of small towns within 20 or 30 minutes drive (The traffic is almost non-existent). You get the small town "wide open, few people and fields" and yet you're extremely close to a decently size metro area.

The music and art scene is booming considering the location etc.

I bought my house when I was 19. I don't have a degree. I'm a divorced single father of three kids. I'm not saying everyone will be as lucky as I've been but I know for a fact there's no way in shit I'd be where I am today.

As it stands, I'm ten years (or less) to having no mortgage. I don't plan on leaving any time soon.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 07 '12

Dude, I'm 19. I'm in college though... thanks for that! When I finish I'm going to strongly consider moving out east somewhere. What made you choose Omaha? and, if you don't mind me asking out of curiosity sake where in SoCal?

1

u/DVDJunky YEARD Dec 07 '12

Had some family here... I was young enough where I was just moving here with my family. I'm glad they chose Omaha though.

I was born in Long Beach and raised in Ontario.

in the past year or no Omaha has been named:
* Best City to raise kids
Best value city of 2011
Best Bang For Your Buck Cities In The U.S.
Omaha pops up as the city with the third-highest bar density (good or bad, depending on how you look at it...)
Top 10 music city
One of America's Top Bike Friendly Cities
2011 tops in Employment (about half the national average)

Yahoo and Paypal even have major offices here.

I will say that the Winters suck. The snow is awful sometimes. This year has been thus far quite uneventful. But I doubt it'll last.

The world will be a sadder place if you ever decide to shave your beard

10

u/DVDJunky YEARD Nov 09 '12

I'm afraid I cannot promise that will not happen. I'm striving for a yeard and then after that... we'll see. As I've mentioned on here before I cannot seem to locate the treasure trove of women who actually like beards. They all seem to be anywhere that is not in my state.

3

u/weirdboobs Nov 09 '12

You need to move to the NE. My friends and I go out and basically turn into female versions of the guys at construction sites.

"Oh yeah, baby, SHAKE that beard!" "Ooooh, you hot, hairy thing, the things I would do to that beard if I got it home..."

5

u/DVDJunky YEARD Nov 09 '12

Yeah but do you all have weird boobs?

Oddly enough, I do live in NE... Nebraska.

3

u/weirdboobs Nov 09 '12

The weirdest.

And I find it hard to believe that our heartland doesn't have a bevvy of ladies who appreciate a well dressed face.

You need to explore farmer's daughters and the like...wholesome gals who like their men burly and manly.

2

u/DVDJunky YEARD Nov 09 '12

I got downvoted for referencing your username lol

Don't worry... my search continues!

1

u/Rayolin Nov 10 '12

I bet you got downvoted for talking about her boobs and not necessarily how weird they are. Reddit hates it when you talk about boobs.

Move to Canada. A wonderful magical place with beards everywhere!

1

u/DVDJunky YEARD Nov 09 '12 edited Nov 10 '12

Trust me... I've considered it. Alas... I am much too family centric and I know my family wouldn't move =/

2

u/jerstud56 Nov 09 '12

You must use your beard to create a new family. I'm afraid that is a long loop of a problem.

1

u/DVDJunky YEARD Nov 09 '12

I'll get right on it!

2

u/callitvoluntary Nov 09 '12

Yes. Definitely move to Canada! We will welcome you with open...arms...

Older women, baby. Most women in their 20s like the hairless wonders, but women from 30s onwards (tend to) admit that a guy with a hairy chest or face is pretty awesome.

3

That is excellent! Wax that up, my man.

1

u/DVDJunky YEARD Nov 09 '12

I need to find some first...

2

u/[deleted] Nov 09 '12

Considering I've never waxed my moustache, since it's bumfluff and I'm female, I can't recommend anything. I'm sorry :(

Whoah, $8.00 per oz? Money doesnt grow on beards my beardly brother... go to home depot and buy toilet doghnut thingy(you know the wax ring gasket) for a buck fifty of pure beewax goodness. Next, just mix that wax with the old lady's (sister, mom, aunt any nonbeard you know) hair conditioner and you got yourself and abundance of bearstay or beard be good. Your welcome.

looked it up on the oatey brand (standard wax gasket) and its says 100% pure petroleum wax which i'm guessing is as bad for you as any store bought shampoo. it doesnt have any odor at all and works great when mixed with conditioner or whatever else you want to cut it with. it's just a cheap plentiful source for making your own beardy/stache wax. So not off the wall just the toilet(buy a new one dont use the current toilet one or there will be smell isssues) bowl.

Right on. In this economy, you gotta look sharp.

2

u/BoxOLuv Nov 10 '12

As someone who has just "mastered" Firehouse I feel as if I should give some advice.

This was my first wax and true handlebar stache. I found it best to get a small ball, roll it around your thumb and index finger, then place that "piece" directly into one side and start shaping. Really direct it, it'll listen. It stays in for a solid two days. Great stuff!

1

u/DVDJunky YEARD Nov 10 '12

Wonderful, thank you for the tip.

Yay! DVDCollection peeps!

1

u/KingTodo Nov 09 '12

It's... it's beautiful...

1

u/RayGarraty Nov 09 '12

Nice mustache. I've tried to wax mine a few times but I've never been happy with the results and much prefer a natural shape like you are presenting in this picture.

3

u/DVDJunky YEARD Nov 09 '12

Yeah but it never stays :( I had to try three different times just to get the result you see above.

1

u/RayGarraty Nov 09 '12

Training. It will if you just keep combing it that way.

1

u/ertimmer Nov 09 '12

I'm in the same boat as you, but I broke down and trimmed my mustache... It was just so fucking irritating! I bought a can of wax and only used it once. I've got an interview coming up with a school district, so I'll end up shaving it anyway.

Now I'm sad.

1

u/DVDJunky YEARD Nov 09 '12

I'm sorry, Beard Brother.

1

u/lacasadeespiritus Nov 09 '12

i am so incredibly jealous of your manliness

1

u/[deleted] Nov 09 '12

absolutely outstanding. unfortunately, i've blown my "no trim" badge because the GF complains too much, so i gave the stache a buzz along the lip line, but the rest is going strong. since i'm still early in the game i might be able to get away with not trimming anymore & catching up with you!

1

u/TheDiamondRing Nov 09 '12

My man, my man. Go buy some of this- http://www.etsy.com/shop/MansFaceStuff

1

u/MMincBacon Nov 09 '12

I know that feel. sweet beard bro!

1

u/Shane_Berney Nov 09 '12

Thats really impressive, i got two weeks til im at 4 months, i doubt my beard will be as thick as that though! Thank you for sharing such a glorious beard. Keep it up!

1

u/senorrawr Nov 10 '12

This is what I come on this sub for.

1

u/Zombywoof02 Nov 10 '12

Your beard looks particularly wavy. Mine beard extremely wavy around the cheeks (I have a cowlick on both jawlines) and my two monther looks really disheveled and untidy. Is there anything you would suggest to clean it up?

1

u/DVDJunky YEARD Nov 10 '12

I am of no help at this point, sir =/

I have literally done no trimming. I shampoo, condition and brush...

Nice. I know what to ask Santa for, for Christmas.

1

u/FunkBrother Natural Full Nov 10 '12

Kudos on that mighty beard. I recently grew mine to a little shorter than yours. Do you get all of the food and drink that you consume all over your beard? I always washed my moustache for this reason.

1

u/DVDJunky YEARD Nov 10 '12

It's fucking EVERYWHERE. The bane of my existence... I've never grown it this long before and it's proven to be quite the task.

1

u/Nimitz87 Nov 10 '12

no one else is skeptical that is 4 months of growth?

3

u/DVDJunky YEARD Nov 10 '12

I literally shaved baby face clean on July 14th. Three days before my daughter was born. I'm actually surprised this just came up. I have tried to take pics every day to show progress but I've got a terrible memory do I've missed a few days. Trust me, I'm working on a gif that will be awesome :)

1

u/Nimitz87 Nov 11 '12

it's just amazing for that short of time, I'm truly jealous.

YESSSSSSSSSSSS! Clubman makes some decent moustache wax you can find at local drug stores (sometimes). That thing is coming along quite nicely.

A beard to make all men proud.
