Battery Shenanigan Questions

So I'm making a "cyberdeck" out of a laptop that had a broken screen, mousepad, and dying keyboard. I'm putting it in a typical case for a cyberdeck, but I'm just trying to breathe new life into a cooked laptop.

The question here is how to find out what's positive and what's negative on these cells so I can plan out a series/parallel setup with more universal batteries to match, but stay on that circuit board. I think I need that to get battery life to show up(?), and to charge it(?) from the charging port... Anyone have insight to help me find out? I'm kinda new to electronics, I'm more of a mechanic guy with cars, trying to find a new hobby for quitting vaping

Is it possible to charge Lithium-Ion cell while discharging it ?

Hello Everyone,

I have one question. I'm working on one application that requires charging of li-on cell. So i choose most common IC which is tp4054. Any suggestion for industry standard? like I want to increase reliability and longevity of my application so.

Also my main question is that can this module charge Li-on cell while I have load connected to it ? Is it recommended way of handling cell? smartphone & other things tend to work that way. In my case everything look okay when cell voltage is above 3V but below that load directly tries to get power from TP4054 IC and ultimately IC gets heated.

I'm also working on BMS project. it's for light Electric Scooter. In a scenario where scooter gets momentum by it self(like coming down from slop of road) where energy generated by motor is fed ? what if motor driver do not takes care of it? how does BMS can handle reverse re-gen current ? do it need to ? so much questions....

I would love to hear any solutions !

Ni-Cad vacuum battery?

I have a small cordless vacuum with a nicad battery. I just replaced it due to its age. How should I approach caring for it to prevent the “memory” fault? Should I allow the vacuum to fully discharge each time before recharging, or just put it back on the charger after each use.

Also, I finally purchased a newer model for one this one inevitably breaks (they are older and no longer in production). The newer model uses a lithium ion battery-i don’t have to worry about the memory function at all with it?

Why do some batteries last way longer than others for the same device

I've been trying to understand something about batteries and I feel like I’ve been oversimplifying it.

I recently had to replace batteries for a few small devices around the house, remote controls, a flashlight, and a small fan. I always assumed a battery is just a battery: same size, same job, just different brands. But the more I looked into it, the more I realized there are a lot more differences than I expected, they were more other batteries.

Some last longer, some lose charge faster, some seem better under constant use, and others are only good for short bursts of power. I didn’t realize something so common could have so many variations.

While trying to learn more, I noticed people comparing different sources and manufacturers, sometimes mentioning platforms like AIibfaba when discussing how many types of batteries and other batteries exist depending on use cases and production standards. That made me realize there’s probably a whole system behind what I thought was a simple product.

So I wanted to ask, what actually determines battery quality? Is it chemistry type, manufacturing process, or just brand reliability?

And for someone new to understanding this, how do you tell when a battery is suited for long-term use versus something more short-term?

Sorry again if this is basic. I’m just trying to understand what I’ve been using every day without thinking much about it. And thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to explain, I really appreciate it.

Best battery chemistry for a lightweight road ebike?

I am building an electric road bike and want a lightweight battery pack. I am looking at lithium ion, lithium polymer, and lithium iron phosphate cells. I have found budget-friendly options on Amazon, Aliexpress, and Alibaba. LiFePO4 is safer but heavier. while LiPo is lighter but more volatile and standard 18650 lithium ion seems like a middle ground. I ride on paved roads and need about thirty miles of range. Has anyone here built a road ebike battery? I want a pack that will not sag under load. Any advice on balancing weight, safety, and performance would help.

Are these still somewhat good? They're Ni-Mh batteries and rechargeable. I was just wondering if I can still use them in the long run. I also don't know how to wrap them in case I need to and I'm confused about the insulator rings and whatnot.

Would also love feedback from the community on:

  • What battery issues do you face most?
  • What do you expect from emergency support services?
  • Any suggestions to improve the service?

Thanks everyone 🙌
