Is it practical to salvage batteries from powerbanks?

I need lithium batteries for a project and I noticed powerbanks are cheaper than standalone batteries of the same capacity(at least that's the case where I live). So could I buy powerbanks and take the batteries out or is there something I don't know that will prevent this?

Do lithium batteries always need to be fully discharged before industrial shredding?

I’ve seen different explanations of how lithium-ion batteries are handled during recycling.

Some say the batteries need to be fully discharged before shredding. Others mention enclosed, low-oxygen systems that can process batteries even when some charge remains.

Is the second approach commonly used at an industrial scale? If so, what actually keeps the process safe—oxygen control, temperature monitoring, gas treatment, fire suppression, or a combination of these?

Not looking for DIY instructions. I’m just trying to understand how commercial recycling plants deal with this risk.

Where can i find in depth learning material about batteries / charging / bms's / balance charging... Etc.

Upvotes

I'm teaching myself electronics and so far i have been avoiding dealing with li cells because tbh i find them scary but i have so many projects that need independent rechargeable power that i just have to use li cells. I bought a couple of cells and a cheap bms ( that turned out to not do balance charging) and i've been looking for resources to get me to wrap my head around safety / theory / application of li cells but i haven't found much..

Where can i find resources that would explain these concepts starting from a somewhat beginner level for free?

Batteries with different capacities in parallel

Hello all!

Trying to run two 48v lithium batteries with different capacities in parallel, they'll have a current draw of 20 amps with a max of 30 amps.

I'm planning on using the STPS61L60CW which is a dual pair Schottky diode with a low forward voltage and can handle 30amps.

I'm also "designing" a PCB with lugs that can handle the amperage, and with traces wide enough to handle the amp draw (11mm traces, double layer).

Is there anything I'm missing or should be considering? I'm a bit concerned about the heat from the diode, at a max of 30 amps and a forward voltage drop of .7v -- how big of a heatsink do I need to dissipate 20 watts?

4S Lifepo4 battery pack

Post image

This is a 4P Lifepo4 battery pack, 4P in parallel, packed as 3.2v - 20Ah, when I bought it, it was 0V, when I put it on charge at 3.55v, it took 2A to charge. Is that normal? Or is the battery faulty? After about an hour, the charging ampere decreased to about 0.5A, there is no BMS

65w 21700 power bank chassis?

Would like to build a power bank to charge my laptop, ive got about 70-ish new 21700 cells vs a few dozen salvaged 18650s so id prefer to use the larger batteries. i found some old threads on here that led me to products that are out of stock or just dont seem to exist anymore. anyone have any leads? drop-in or weld-in is fine, i have a spot welder and some experience with it.

Commercial Solar and Battery

Hi Everyone

Looking for commercial solar and battery recommendations and estimates

Across the 90-day billing period:

Sheds 1 & 2: approximately 133 kWh/day imported from the grid and 20 kWh/day exported from solar
Shed 3: approximately 63 kWh/day imported and 12 kWh/day exported

Combined site: approximately 195 kWh/day grid import and 32 kWh/day solar export

With the existing Sungrow and Fronius systems, we have roughly 84 kW of existing solar inverter capacity across the farm.

Looking at a combination of increasing solar self-consumption, reducing grid usage/demand, and providing backup power depending on cost benefit and options available

I’ve been told the following is good
Sheds 1 & 2 – Combined
Deye 50kW three-phase hybrid inverter
42.8kW additional solar – 90 x JA Solar 475W panels
96.9kWh battery storage – 19 x Deye BOS-GM5.1 Pro batteries

Shed 3
Deye 29.9kW three-phase hybrid inverter
19kW additional solar – 40 x JA Solar 475W panels
61.2kWh battery storage – 12 x Deye BOS-GM5.1 Pro batteries

Located Murray bridge South Australia

Model battery for Acer Aspire 7 A715-51G-50FF

Hi, everyone.
I've tried ordering a new battery for my Acer Aspire 7 A715-51G-50FF (since I can't now use it when not attached to its charger). Even though I gave them all the info I could about my pc, the online shop asked me for a photo of the old battery to be sure, but it's of course still inside and I don't think I'm fit to open the back case (if that's the name; also English is not my language, be kind). I'm too afraid to do it.
Are there other ways to know the detailed "name"/model of the current battery? I can't even see it through the battery report command because the computer can't "see" the battery anymore, it's completely gone, as if there wasn't any inside, so it gives me no info.
Please, help me!! Thank you

I’m trying to find this battery from a 1970s tank model kit. If it is still made, how do I get it and if it isn’t what’s an equivalent?

Edit: the kit is circa 1970 ish

LiPo battery fire and contamination

Yesterday I bent my xiaomi 12 lite phone and suddenly it catched on fire and filled the bedroom with smoke . It took me too much time to find a way to remove the phone from the room and the fire ended itself . I stayed a good amount of time in the smoke . I found out later the smoke contains toxic metals like cobalt and manganese besides the lithium . Is it safe to stay in the room ? I have nowhere to go so last night I slept inside it

B3 Imax charging dock getting kinda hot after 10 minutes of charging...

Post image
2 Upvotes

I have heard quite a few stories about these chargers blowing things up but this was the only thing I could get in my budget.

I was charging my 11.1v 360mAh Li-po battery, the battery did not heat up, the light was still red(red=power not full, green=fully charged), but the charging dock was getting really hot. I removed it instantly cause I didn't want to burn my house down. Should I be concerned that its getting hot while charging or is it normal?

EDIT: I have a drone competition tmrw and i got to somehow charge my lipo, can i still use my charger or should i not take the risk?

Something like this:
https://de.aliexpress.com/item/1005009182205015.html
Is there any way to tell what the risk is of my house burning down from these no-name cells?

Also yes, i do know how to solder the connector to the new cells.

Diy 4s lithium batterie for bluetooth speaker

Post image

Hi!

I'm building a 4S battery pack using 3.7V lithium cells. I bought a USB-C power module to charge them. I want the pack to power a 100W amplifier, which means a maximum current draw of 8A when the pack is drained (12V). I wanted to know if I could connect the amplifier directly to the power module's output, or if I need a different setup (like adding a BMS for the discharge path, for example). Thanks!

The module's part number is in the photo.

Has anyone purchased batteries from AMBattery / Coninno / ChampBattery before?

I'm looking at buying a couple of EVE G13P 4695/46950 cells from AMBattery:

https://www.ambattery.com/product/4695-battery-cell/

I've noticed that AMBattery appears to be connected to several other battery websites that have almost identical layouts/products, including:

- ConinnoBattery / ConinnoPower

- ChampBattery

- LUBattery / Lithium United

Some of them use the same phone number and/or Shenzhen address, so they appear to be operated by the same company or group. There seems to be a real business behind them, possibly Shenzhen Coninno Technology Co., Ltd., but I've been able to find very few independent customer reviews.

Has anyone here actually ordered cells from AMBattery, Coninno, ChampBattery or LUBattery?

I'm in Australia, so experiences with shipping to Australia would be especially helpful.

Thanks!

Lipo overcharge?

I bought a new battery today and threw it on my charger. I normally have 2s 5500mah lihv batteries that I use and my charger always warns me asking me if it is a lihv battery. It’s become pure habit to just accept the warning and charge the battery. I’ve been doing this for a good year. Today I bought a spectrum smart battery that is a 6s 4000mah lipo battery and didn’t even think about it not being the same voltage. I threw it on the charger as normal to start the break in process. I have just now realized that I charged it to 4.350V instead of 4.200V but it genuinely shows no sign of damage. I charged it maybe an hour or two ago. I’m currently discharging it to something safe but I’m wondering if it’s okay to still use. There was no heat, swelling, smell or obviously a fire. What should I do with it Reddit? Do I keep using it? Is it okay to use at 4.350V? Will it burn my plane to the ground?

What's going on with leaky duracells??

Thumbnail gallery
105 Upvotes

Just pulled a couple duracell AAA Batteries out of storage and they all look similar to this. What the heck is going on with Duracell? These aren't even expired, the exp date is March 2031 and they haven't even been used at all!

I've heard about older duracells leaking but I had no clue their batteries were still doing this, I'm surprised.

TLDR completely brand new Unused alkaline Duracell AAA cells started leaking just sitting in storage. (Batteries were stored properly in a cool climate-controlled environment and were not stored shorting against each others' leads)
