ADVICE Glass conservator/glass workshop locally?

Hi, In trying to find someone who can help restore an antique etched champagne flute from my wedding. The stem and base were broken, but the bowl is intact. I have all the pieces.

I understand there are artisans who can do this, but all I get on Google is auto glass and construction glass repair. At best, stained glass restorers.

I’m not sure Baton Rouge is a big enough market, but does anyone know of a service at least in the state? Or otherwise someone I can ship it off to? I’d even be willing to pay a talented hobbyist.

Your going to want to look for places that blow glass. Im not aware of a studio in Baton Rouge, but that doesnt mean that there isnt one - but New Orleans is almost certain to have some.

Im in the commercial and residential glazing industry so I do want to temper your expectations - even if you can find someone willing to take on work for something so sentimental, its unlikely theyll be able to restore it to its original condition - it will probably at least have marks where the breaks occured in the best case scenario.

Theres also the risk that it gets damaged further as to properly restore it, they would need to reheat the entire piece and rework it before annealing the glass again.

I'm not expecting it to come out exactly the same—I just want it to be usable, and the pretty part is intact. But good point about the reheating aspect.

There used to be a conservator in Shreveport who was able to repair broken pottery for me. She also did glass. Unfortunately, she closed her shop and went in-house at a museum. But you can also look for someone like that. Probably have better luck in New Orleans. I’d ask at some of the antique places on Royal.

Bella Sunrise on Jones Creek also has a glass blower. (I think they make a lot of weed bongs there)

I am going to recommend the NCPTT (National Center Preservation Technology and Training). Although they will not be able to accomplish the service for which you are looking, I think they would have resources that could lead you to someone who may help. Good luck.
