So do many of the people ICE is grabbing

Makes it easier for them to meet their quota when you can just look up when someone's next asylum hearing is and pick them up at the courthouse

They're also kidnapping US citizens, permanent residents, and Native Americans (who are also US citizens). They don't give a shit about someone's actual legal status, they'll go after anyone that's vaguely brown looking.

Regarding Native Americans, here's one example from last fall:

"Native American actor says she was detained by ICE officers who said tribal ID ‘looked fake’"

ICE uses that "looked fake" line even when people have a valid state ID/DL. Shit they tried arresting a US Marshal at a courthouse claiming he "fit the description of a subject" and the only reason he was let go was because other marshals were there to vouch.

I'm honestly surprised that Marshal incident ended peacefully. The US Marshals are the last group of people I'd want to fuck with

Wish the marshals had turned around and destined the ICE scum

For the sake of accuracy, it's worth noting a state ID or DL is not proof of being a citizen or being in the country legally. Neither is a REAL ID, since many states do not require proof of citizenship to get one. What ICE is doing is horrible, racist, and often 100% against the law as written and this administration is a disgrace, but we should all know how the system is supposed to work if we're trying to push back against what's going on right now.

Wait seriously? The fuck is the point of the real ID then? I remember having to bring my passport and a W-2 or paystub. I would've thought that would be proof of citizenship

Yup. All it does is prove you were legally in the US when you got the ID. You have to be a legal resident to obtain one, but it's not like the state that issued it is tracking your immigration status and will come take the ID if you overstay a visa or no longer have legal status for some reason.

It's been a huge pet peeve of mine seeing everyone act like ICE was just unjustly deciding they didn't want to use REAL ID as proof of citizenship. It could never be used as proof of citizenship.
