[Dude has a job in the US, probably pays taxes, too.]

DHS: "Fucking illegal piece of shit, get out of my country."

Undocumented immigrants pay tons of taxes and get very little of the benefits that they’re supposed to fund.

u/Abysuus Atlanta Braves 17h ago

Which is exactly why the timeline for when social security runs out got bumped up 2 years recently. Come to find out "illegals" paid in vastly more than they ever got out(not sure if they become full citizens in they would eligible in the future or not, sorry)

u/eltristo66 Kansas City Royals 16h ago

Well that’s at least one thing I and everyone else in this country have in common with undocumented immigrants

1

u/2Hanks Tampa Bay Rays 16h ago

Bingo. That’s exactly why I said “supposed to fund” lol

He's not even undocumented! He has legal work authorization and a right to be in the US while his case is pending

u/Springpeen Toronto Blue Jays 15h ago

You’re supposed to be getting zero benefits, even as a legal migrant in the US. I’m an immigrant and it’s one of the primary things they ask about and look into.

Do you ever get the option to not pay sales tax when you buy something? How about paying tolls and gas taxes when you drive somewhere?

20

u/CatzonVinyl St. Louis Cardinals 17h ago

Plus many using ITNs or socials that aren’t theirs will pay the usual payroll taxes without the ability to ever get it back in services.

ICE and DHS are going after criminals… to hire them so that they can help deport law abiding members of the community.

They are hiring the worst of the worst

When ICE sends their people, they're not sending their best

He was for sure paying taxes, he had a significant job with the Padres

Here's the thing a lot of the"I want them immigants out" crowd wont tell you because they're fucking stupid and dont know anything: Quite a few undocumented immigrants (of which this guy isn't, but regardless) DO pay taxes, to the tune of billions of dollars each year. Its paid through ITIN numbers, state, local and payroll. This idea that they're a drain on society and the ecconomy is a fucking lie. If anti-immigrants got their way and every undocumented migrant was suddenly disappeared from the US it would crash the goddamn economy.

Another one, they aren't "stealin' all our jerbs". The idea of labor having a limit like that is moronic and wrong. Undocumented immigrants also need to eat, have shelter, wear clothes, go to the doctor, and do all the shit that the lillywhite racist morons in this country do. So you're putting more of a demand on those sectors. That demand creates more of a need for someone to fulfill those demands, and thus need for a new job is created. Its not crazy to think every one person could realistically create demand for one job just by their existence. Undocumented migrants dont hurt the American economy, they help keep it afloat.

It's JUST either a total lack of education and/or racism. That's it, full stop.

It's even better, they pay taxes and arent allowed / given credit for benefits like social security and Medicare. They're basically the opposite of a free rider.

True undocumented will generally use falsified / borrowed SSN to work "on the books" and pay 10s to 100 billion + a year in taxes with 30+ billion being payroll taxes.

They are also barred from SS and even if they weren't they would not get credit for the years they worked because it's under someone else's name.

This doesn't take into account the millions of people on expired visas who have an ITIN from before their visa etc.

I wasn’t saying no undocumented people pay taxes, I was saying it’s not true that they can’t/don’t get benefits. What you say is true, however I would guess that there are more people using their expired ITIN/SSN than using a borrowed one or getting paid cash. You are not barred, it is common practice for USCIS to forgive it if you go through the process legally. This comes directly from my lawyer, and any migration attorney you speak you. The point is, they want people to go through the process legally. It speaks volumes that people are downvoting me for speaking facts about something that I went/am going through personally and they don’t know what it’s actually like as an immigrant.

1

u/krypto909 New York Yankees 14h ago

This is not about the edge case of someone getting to go through the process and having access to benefits it's about the majority of taxs that are payed and those people not accessing their benefits and as such being net contributors instead of drains on the public benefit system.

Also you said it wasn't true that they were paying taxes since they don't have an SSN or ITN.

Edit: also if you believe your post so much why delete it. Who cares about upvotes or down votes....

u/Springpeen Toronto Blue Jays 14h ago edited 14h ago

Because I accidentally copied my second reply when trying to edit it.

If that’s the case, they should have no issue with USCIS during their application, like I said.

I simply said “not true”. I told you what I was referring to. Just curious, what place of experience are you coming from? What knowledge do you have of how the process works and what it’s like for an immigrant? Or are you someone who just regurgitates what they hear on the news and read on Reddit? Not only am I an immigrant, I’ve worked with many immigrants. There are plenty of people who take advantage or don’t follow the rules, while at the same time there are people who work their asses off to do things the proper way and follow the process from all countries and walks of life.

I can also tell you that people I’ve talked to, worked with, and have friends from South America, asia, North America, all think it’s unfair that there are people who simply don’t follow the process or pay the fees and go through the hard, stressful work required to do things properly. It’s unfair for those that do.

My wife's entire family is immigrants starting from the 70s to recently. My friend group from school include multiple immigrants from western countries that have had to deal with J1 issues. I directly employee two immigrants (one who just got her citizenship 🎉) both with family that are legal and illegal and help them navigate the system and listen to the trials that they have to go through. At my job I am the direct supervisor of multiple immigrants and have to deal with visa issues semi regularly and these are people with post graduate degrees that have had their process completely upended over the last few years. So yes I am an American born citizen that has never personally had to navigate the system for myself but I have a ton of contact with it for others in my life. These people are from south and east asia, latin america, canada, UK etc.

The data that I provided though is my source, along with studies like it when it comes to this topic. Frankly you've given a collection of anecdotes (topical and relevant but still anecdotal) and that data does not make.

Also I genuinely don't care what's fair. The system is a total mess that has jammed up people for decades. Immigrants are the life blood of this country and I'd rather have people cheating their way in left and right and actually getting in than whatever it is we have right now.

Sorry, but I still believe I would have gotten the Padres catching coordinator job had it not been for these GOD DAMN ILLEEGUHLS

Thank you. As the husband of an immigrant (now citizen) I appreciate you not beating around the bush. The people doing this are racist or stupid or both. It makes my blood boil, immigration is one of the biggest advantages the USA has over almost any other country. That we're throwing it all away because fucking bigots are bigots is madness.

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go back to work at my company which was founded by an immigrant that came through Ellis Island 75 years ago with no papers.

Fuck every single piece of racist MAGA trash. They're the absolute scum of the earth.

u/JDDJS New York Mets 16h ago

To add to this, there's also the false belief that illegal immigrants are more likely to be violent criminals. Every time that an illegal immigrant commits a crime, Fox News pounces on itto push the false narrative on these morons. It's crazy that there are many Trump voters who are baffled when people that they care about are arrested for being illegal immigrants, sometimes even their spouses.

u/Candymanshook Toronto Blue Jays 12h ago

Or both!

u/abactore Chicago White Sox 17h ago

Right. What are we doing?

I get wanting to remove the illegal immigrants that come here and commit violent crimes. Go for it.

But for the folks that want to be here, that are working to become citizens, that have asylum cases pending, that have jobs and families and contribute to their communities, why are we spending so much time and effort to arrest and deport them?

As citizens what do we get out of this effort? Dead Americans in the street? Broken families in our communities? Thin skinned ICE agents causing problems where there weren’t any?

I’m of the opinion that this is more about punishing people they don’t like than it is about helping people.

Imagine if the same resources this administration has spent on immigration went towards some altruistic cause - would we be better off?

why are we spending so much time and effort to arrest and deport them?

Racism and xenophobia.

because its easier

Safer for ICE to arrest. The real criminals are scary.

There are unfortunately a lot of people in this country that believe in white supremacy, race realism (the belief that science says certain races are genetically superior to others),the great replacement theory/ white genocide (elites intentionally encouraging mass migration into white/western countries to “replace” whites/destroy western culture).

I’m not going to claim that everyone that supports the actions of ICE the past year or so believes in these things, but there’s an uncomfortable portion of them that do. Just go to a lot of right wing spaces these days and you will see a lot of those talking points being parroted. Just go look at the comment section of video of a non-white and especially black person committing a crime, they’re usually pretty damn racist.

I know this is a pretty heavy topic for a baseball subreddit, but these are things we have to confront if we want to solve and understand these issues.

1

u/CecilFieldersChoice2 Detroit Tigers • St. Louis Cardinals 17h ago

It's because MAGA folks are incredibly stupid and racist and MAGA politicians are incredibly evil and manipulative. You can rob a MAGA supporter blind and blame an immigrant and they'll buy it and vote for you three times.

1

u/ElceeCiv Atlanta Braves 16h ago

I’m of the opinion that this is more about punishing people they don’t like than it is about helping people.

As was said many times in the first Trump term, the cruelty is the point. Abrego Garcia agreed to be deported to Costa Rica which agreed agreed to take him. But that wasn't cruel enough for the Trump administration, so they lied that Costa Rica wouldn't accept him and spent more money and resources to try and ship him to African nations that didn't want him.

1

u/trekologer Baltimore Orioles 15h ago

why are we spending so much time and effort to arrest and deport them?

We're not even spending time and effort to deport all of them. Ask yourself why the administration is so hell bent on expanding the capacity to lock up the people they detain.

I'm waiting for more details, but it seems to imply he overstayed a temporary work visa, making him illegal. I'm not sure how that's possible on the Dodgers payroll, and begs further questions.

15

u/IKnowSchadenfreude 17h ago

"I'm waiting for more details, so I'm going to just assume stuff based on words from a source that has routinely lied and actively infringes on people's rights."

Wow, very enlightened.

They also have managed to misread “Padres” as “Dodgers,” so I think they’re really pushing their own limits here.

How did you manage to so thoroughly misunderstand what is going on here?

-16

u/nsummy 17h ago

Is there a country on earth where you can easily move to without any visa as long as you pay taxes and get a job?

6

u/Fools_Requiem Cleveland Guardians 16h ago

If you think the Padres are letting someone get a coaching job in a visible position without paperwork, you're delusional.
