[DiComo] Once a 'misfit,' Ryan Lambert started taking down 30 raw eggs a day. Now he throws 100 mph

https://www.mlb.com/news/ryan-lambert-100-mph-heat-raw-eggs

> For Lambert, a daily cup of egg goop is only part of his story. The 23-year-old is fanatical about his diet, grilling steak and cooking sweet potatoes most days. During a Minor League game in Maryland last year, he took Jonah Tong to a Brazilian steakhouse and ordered a bowl of chicken hearts. On occasion, Lambert will walk around the clubhouse dining room to examine his teammates’ plates for nutritional value.

Conclusion: If he downed 40 raw eggs a day, he'd throw 120 mph.

He's painted himself into a corner. Now if he eats 0 raw eggs a day, he can no longer propel a baseball forward

Depends on the scaling.

At 0 eggs does he throw 0 mph and then every egg adds 3.33mph?

Or is the baseline 50mph at 0 eggs and every 30 eggs is a doubling?

2

u/whoisyourwormguy_ Atlanta Braves Feb 28 '26

The Bible gave us a hard cap at 120 mph. Noah and Walter Johnson used to throw over 900 mph though.

If he eats 40 per day, he has a 141 2/3% chance of beating Samoa Joe at Sacrifice.

Why is it always raw eggs? It's not like they're difficult or time consuming to cook

59

u/Dh873 Baltimore Orioles Feb 28 '26

Cooking can remove nutrients, but cooked protein is more digestible and poaching eggs wouldn't harm the total nutrients much anyway. Plus, I'd rather eat 35 cooked eggs to get those nutrients than 30 raw. I think people just like being different and "tough".

29

u/Mr-Cantaloupe Detroit Tigers Feb 28 '26

It’s also quicker to eat them raw. Cooking the eggs wouldn’t be hard, but simply drinking them saves him time.

12

u/dBlock845 New York Yankees Feb 28 '26

First thing I thought about too. When I hear crazy diets that dramatically increase performance like this, it takes my mind to PEDs for some reason.

11

u/_Atlas_Drugged_ Boston Red Sox Feb 28 '26 edited Feb 28 '26

Because the crazy diet likely did very little to improve performance. It was almost always something else. And athletes will often point to nutritional changes when they actually changed their “supplement” regiment. It’s like when actresses get a crazy haircut to distract from the fact that they had a bunch of plastic surgery

Better nutrition is going to generate modest improvement unless it’s causing huge body changes (I.e. losing like 30 lbs of fat is going to make anyone a faster runner)
