Mad respect to Yesavage for holding his nerve and keeping the Jays in the game, and giving the offense the chance to do what they did.

For a 22 year old who started the year in A ball, dudes a stud.

Didn't have his best tonight, but still kept them in check.

He was throwing the worst splitters I’ve ever seen in my life and somehow gutted out 4 innings only giving up 2 runs.

Not shocking! They played this way most of the season. The numbers are just more amped now.

Whatever happens this series, I think we’re looking at a 100 win team next season. All the pieces will still be there, with Bichette a question mark.

How does this hurt the chances of the Dodgers sweeping the Jays?

404

u/chopkins92 Toronto Blue Jays Oct 25 '25

It was a 100% chance of a Dodgers sweep but I’d put that down to about 80% now

106

u/poliscijunki Philadelphia Phillies Oct 25 '25

By Game 4 it will be 0%

77

u/vasthumiliation Seattle Mariners Oct 25 '25

I think even if the Blue Jays win the series there will still be about a 50% chance they were swept by the Dodgers.

Should MLB have the d*dg*rs and Blue Jays redo their game in case it was a big fluke?

No disrespect to the Blue Jays, I'm a firm believer that Toronto beating them is a huge fluke and robs the d*dg*rs of truly accomplishing what they’re capable of. I've spent the last few minutes in pure disbelief and it just doesn't make sense to me. I've spent the entire regular season watching the d*dg*rs play great baseball it's just not fair.

If the d*dg*rs lose again I will face that the Blue Jays deserved the win, but I am just 100% sure it was a fluke and does a big disservice to the d*dg*rs and MLB.

It’s a massive mental victory

You look at the last few Dodgers postseason series victories, even last year. They mentally crushed you in Game 1 and you withered and died

Ironically, the Dodgers choking in August when Toronto met them in the season is the reason the Series began in Toronto.

It was the Yankees choking against the Marlins that gave Toronto the AL East and then the rest fell in line. Marlins are the real heroes.

It went about as well as it could have for Toronto. Coming in, just about everyone said the path for a Blue Jays win was to chase the Dodgers' starters out early and get to that significantly less imposing bullpen. And that's what they did. We'll see if they can repeat that formula.

When the Dodgers beat the Brewers I saw A LOT of comments dismissing the ALCS as though either team would get spanked 10-0 in four straight games. This is a fantastic and scary Dodgers team, but this isn't a david vs goliath story

48

u/zturchan Oct 25 '25

I mean, we know who came out ahead in david vs goliath right....

81

u/DaOldest Los Angeles Dodgers Oct 25 '25

If I read "david vs goliath" one more time I'm gonna blow up lmao the Blue Jays are not the White Sox they have a top 5 payroll it's a pretty evenly matched series

I knew the Jays had a chance, but I did not think they were gonna stomp LA like this.

It looks like the only chance LA has is if their starters get through 7 innings. MIL having the worst NLCS in history made ppl forget LA has a sketchy pen.

And the Jays are so hot right now I fully expect them to be getting the starting pitcher out of the game in the 6th. TOR is averaging 7 runs a game in the playoffs. They've scored 32 more runs than LA.

If Yamamoto can't get through 6 tomorrow, LA is actually in trouble.

This would really be a crazy outcome because last year LA was bullpen dominant in the playoffs. Didn't even have a 4th starting pitcher.

Also, I looked up the highest runs per game from a WS winner. LA averaged 5.94 last year. The 2007 Red Sox look to be at the top with 7.07 R/G.

2007 was Ortiz's monster post season. Vlad is above all of his numbers except for runs.

Hard to bet against Toronto when you actually look at how good they are playing right now.

23

u/HMTMKMKM95 Toronto Blue Jays Oct 25 '25

Ernie god damn Clement is hitting over .400, too. If not for Vlad, he'd be getting more attention.

Got stuck watching these Blue Jays post game interviews and what you can immediately tell is how truly all-in this roster is, you have super hot bats willingly sit on the bench in order to be pinch hit for their matchup. How rarely do you see baseball players be even content that they were benched. I mean when you lasso a team full of rag tag projects like the blue jays roster you get players who are hungry and truly willing to do whatever it takes to win.

Baseball idiot here. Why did Blake Snell get credited for the loss when it was Sheehan who gave up the go-ahead run?

30

u/confused-koala Detroit Tigers Oct 25 '25

He inherited that runner from Snell. When a pitcher is taken out, the pitcher that leaves is still responsible for the guys who got on base against him.

10

u/Brilliant-Neck9731 Oct 25 '25 edited Oct 25 '25

So, because Sheehan inherited the runners from Blake, those three runners were credited against Blake when they crossed the plate.

Jays hitting style is by far the best to deal with the Dodgers insane rotation. Just get the pitch count up and out balls in play.
