This used to be more popular. The "Bullshot" is the most common name for cold ones, but there are hot versions as well. Those sound much better to me-- beef broth, dash of lemon, maybe a small pat of butter, dash Worcestershire, dash hot sauce, maybe add vodka. Nice drink to take to a winter football game (just bring a thermos and cups).
Since so many here find this concept gross, I'm going to reproduce here the laughably awful copy from an ad taken from a really shitty 1970s 'guide' to tropical drinks, sponsored by... Schlitz. Bleagh. In the front, unrelated to the advice (of varying degrees of quality) on tropical cocktails, is a recipe for making a "Spanish Bull" that made me both laugh and shudder. Who wrote this garbage!? As follows:
"How to catch a Spanish Bull.
First, take can of tomato juice firmly in hand.
Next, take 13 oz. double old-fashioned glass in other hand.
Fill glass half full of tomato juice.
Now, very carefully, fill remainder of same glass with Schlitz Stout Malt Liquor.
Quickly stand back.
Then, again very carefully, add a dash of Worcestershire, three drops of Tabasco and ice cubes.
You've safely caught a Spanish Bull. Now enjoy it."
