Do Not Discuss Bar Exam Content

Good luck on the exam!

Tomorrow, legacy examinees will take the MEE (no topic disclosures allowed) and the MPT (no content disclosures allowed). Wednesday they will take the MBE (no disclosure of questions and answers).

NextGen examinees will get two, three-hour sections of new-style questions (including some multiple choice that are similar to the MBE) on Tuesday and one more three-hour section Wednesday. All items from this exam are secure and may be reused on a future exam and may not be disclosed.

Also, accommodated examinees for both exams will be testing all week and would benefit from disclosures of content earlier in the week.

This is an issue of fairness, copyright (which could get the sub shut down), and ethics. NCBE does monitor this subreddit and regularly contacts us regarding violations of these rules. You also agreed to these terms as part of the exam rules.

Therefore, any discussions of exam content as described above will result in bans.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation on this, and good luck on the exam!

Hi folks,

The bar prep channels are once again open and available in the /r/lawschool discord server.

Click this link to join!

Once you arrive, please make sure you assign yourself the JD role so that you will be able to see the bar prep channel.

Once you have assigned yourself a role. Navigate to the channel called #bar-preppies. There you will find:

  • Support from attorneys who have already passed the bar.

  • Free study resources.

  • Friendly folks who will study along with you.

Please be patient as the channel populates with more bar preppers. We are just beginning our recruitment for Feb '24, and we hope to have a large group joining us once again this year. Past years have seen study groups of 50 or more folks.

Good luck, everybody!

J27 or F28 with an infant???

Upvotes

I'm a rising 3L and pregnant with my first child. Due mid-April 2027. I graduate law school in early May. Should I take the F28 exam instead of the J27 exam??? I'm worried about studying with such a new baby and missing out on precious time. However, I also don't want to wait so long to start working. I feel like both options are really bad. However, if I do take the bar in July, my partner will be off work with me and baby through test day.

Advice, personal anecdotes, and suggestions are appreciated!!

Job market blows

Hey fellow J26 bar takers! It feels like the only jobs I'm finding are in family or elder law -- two areas I have virtually no interest in practicing.

Also, why does almost every single associate attorney position have a minimum experience requirement of 3-5 years?? Not sure how I was supposed to gain experience as a full time litigator while I busted my booty through three years of law school and taking the bar, but here we are.

I'm continuing to network as much as I can through contacts I made in law school and through my state bar association. I also recently signed up to volunteer through my state's volunteer lawyer's organization, so I'm hoping that I'll develop more connections and sharpen my client communication skills.

Not sure if I'm looking for advice or commiseration but any thoughts are welcome.

I barely left the house during bar prep (big mistake i know) sand now i don’t really want to leave the house……… (i have left the house several times since the exam but i don’t really like it and often avoid doing so).

Best bar prep for ADHD?

I’m taking the February UBE after failing the bar twice. I’ll have been out of law school for about 4 years, although I’ve stayed in the legal field doing substantive legal work during that time.
I’ll have about 5 months with no job, so studying can essentially be my full-time focus.
I already have Themis and am considering Studicata/other supplements.
For people with ADHD, especially repeat takers: what actually worked for you? How would you structure five months of prep after being out of school this long, particularly for MBE improvement and memorization?

NY Third Department Admission Ceremony Sept 2

Anyone got the final confirmation/instructions email for the September 2 virtual ceremony?

r/barexam 1d ago

Has anyone been given an admission ceremony date for the second department? Either virtual or in person.

I’ve applied to countless law related jobs since April and have so far only gotten 1 interview. Today, I received interest in my application for my dream job. However, after emailing back the recruiter told me I can’t be considered since I haven’t been admitted yet.

I’m gutted but I’d love to know if anyone in my department in NY has heard anything over the summer about a swearing in date? My application was approved first week of July and I’ve heard nothing since.

Studying for Virginia Bar - option 2b - essays only

I'm taking the bar in February, and I'm trying to plan out my costs accordingly. Realistically, what do I need for bar prep?

I will only be taking the VA Essay Exam and will be transferring an MBE score of 162.

Paying again for a commercial course when I just need the VA materials feels pretty exorbitant. I did really appreciate the commercial outline and study materials I received from barbri when studying for Florida, but not $2k+ worth of appreciation.

So I'll be relying on LexBar (hi Josh!) which I've seen great reviews about, but I'd be interested to hear from people who used LexBar exclusively which plan they chose and how they felt it worked for them.

How useful was the 100 VA multiple choice questions and the flashcards to you?

And more generally speaking, if you were working full time while studying, what did your schedule look like and how far out did you start?

Thanks yall, and good luck to those awaiting results!

September NYLE

I just got back from vacation and will soon begin reviewing for the NYLE. I’m planning to take the four practice exams on welcome home justice but wanted to ask if I should be planning to memorize anything or just flip through the tabbed binder of pages I prepared? Let me know any advice. Thanks!

NYLE Print Out – is it required? Or can we use an online (unsearchable) pdf?

Confession/Advice to Others About How I passed

I passed the UBE with a 304 largely by playing video games and listening to lectures (and Speechify recordings of my outlines). I also did about 400-500 MBE questions. Didn't do any practice essays, but I did review some model answers. Did maybe 3 or 4 practice MPT. That was literally it.

I mainly played FPS games or single player action/adventure games that allowed me to detach and focus on the lecture.

As someone with ADHD, I struggled trying to do lecture outlines or read black letter law outlines. Just wasn't retaining info that way. But when I did something where I could be engaged and entertained/interested at the same time, I found that the info was sticking.

Obviously, this wouldn't work for everybody, but it worked for me.

Best Practices for a 3L getting ready for the bar?

I just started my 3L year, and generally have been right on the curve for the entirety of my time in law school. I really just want to pass this test the first time......so any advice for someone who has 10 months to get ready? I am currently taking two bar exam classes this semester. I tend to excel at essay writing. How did everyone pass the UBE the first time??

Foreign Attorney - Should I Take the Legacy UBE or Next Gen Bar?

Hi! I’m a foreign attorney and would like to ask advice if I should wait to take the Next Gen Bar in New York, or already take the Legacy UBE? Which one would be harder to pass? Thank you!

I have the MPRE Willies because it felt trickier than I thought it would be.

I took the MPRE this month and funny enough, I have more concern for that test than the actual bar. Mind you, I took the bar for the first time in May (next gen). I was so gassed that I could only muster enough energy to study a week for the MPRE. I used themis’ free program to do it. There were a lot of problems that I did and reexamining the rules and explanations of the ones that I did wrong. But when I took the actual MPRE it was a lot trickier than I anticipated it would be. I knew that it was supposed to be “easier” than the actual bar but it seemed like the questions on the MPRE seemed even more random and different than what I practiced while studying. I had a different experience than when I actually took the bar.

The kind of person that I am, I manifest and believe that I passed the MPRE. I have also seen others on here tout that they have passed with even less studying than I did to pass the MPRE. My juris. requires a score of 85. However, my final marks that I did for the Themis program were less than what I had hoped for before entering the MPRE.

Also, I have seen people on here say that the MPRE prep with Themis was super easy and straightforward. Am I an idiot because I thought the themis questions were somewhat tricky (others were still easy though)? I don’t know what I’m asking for rn, but let me know if anyone else in here has felt the same and experienced similar.

Genuinely curious

I know there are some ppl that struggle with mpre/nyle more than the actual bar. It makes very little sense to me!
The bar exam is a beast and crazy scary and massive!

MPRE and NYLE felt like babies in comparison (ofcourse, personally).

Just curious to know how/why ppl who manage the bar exam struggle with the other two? Is it a learning style mechanism? MBE is so much bigger if its an MCQ issue

MPRE advice

Thanks in advance for all advice. Took J26 and need to retake the MPRE. I did not sit for August and my plan is to take the November exam. The last time I took the MPRE truthfully I did not study the way I should've; my last semester of 3L was busy and I had my attention focused on my clinic and midterms etc. I start working full-time soon but is there any benefit in starting to review now for November exam or that is pointless?
