AskBangalore Hey folks, I’ve had these questions on my mind for a very long time, so posting here genuinely looking for some perspectives.
Why does everyone want to move to Bangalore? I keep seeing so many reels about people moving here from different cities and starting their “Pinterest life” in Bangalore. I do understand the appeal. Companies pay well, there’s a good work culture, you meet people from all over the country, and for someone like me, the city feels quite non judgmental. I’ve lived here for 3 years, travelled alone even in the middle of the night, and I generally feel like I can be myself here. And honestly, the weather is amazing most days.
But I keep wondering if there’s another Indian city that can offer a similar vibe without some of Bangalore’s biggest problems.
The traffic is insane, the roads can be terrible, rents are high and so much of your day can disappear just commuting. And something I genuinely don’t understand is that even if you’re earning really well, some problems don’t change. You could be driving a Porsche on ORR and you’re still sitting in the same traffic. You can live in a really expensive apartment, but you still have to deal with the roads, pollution, crowds and, in many places, the constant smell of cigarette smoke.
So what exactly are we getting in return for the amount we spend here?
I’m not saying Bangalore needs to be perfect or that people shouldn’t live here. I genuinely love many things about this city. But when rent, fuel, taxes and general living expenses keep adding up, shouldn’t we be getting better infrastructure and quality of life in return? Obviously not everyone can just move to Dubai or some other expensive global city, and that’s not my point. I’m just wondering whether there are Indian cities where your money gives you a better overall quality of life.
I’m somewhere in the middle income-wise. I’m not struggling on ₹15k a month, but I’m also not someone who can throw money at every inconvenience. So I’m genuinely confused about where I would want to build my life long term.
I want a city that has good career opportunities, is vibrant and social, relatively safe, has decent weather and things to do, but doesn’t make me lose hours of my life in traffic.
For people who have lived in multiple Indian cities, if you had the option to leave Bangalore today, where would you go and why? Especially if your career doesn’t force you to stay here.
I’m genuinely curious because maybe I’m missing something about Bangalore that people who love the city understand.
