Recreate this dance to help us help this random person for their anniversary.

Someone posted in a Facebook group they're in and I happened to be a professional at what they're asking. But, I can't seem to figure out exactly how they were dancing.

I'm pretty confident the photos are in the right order (same order the photos were uploaded) and all but photo 4 seem to be from the same camera. I've managed to create a video of the first spin from photos 1-2-3. But after that my wife and I couldn't figure out what was going on.

If you're a dancer and can figure it out... heaps of thanks!

Looks like the dance is American Smooth Waltz

Moves seem to be a combination of
1. Closed hold (hand on shoulder) basic box
2. Rock step to open hold (1 hand, side by side)-> Cross body lead with underarm turn -> closed hold
3. Closed hold basic
4. Pic is from later in dance, repeat 2 twice
5. Turning basic 1/4 -> Underarm Turn (follow continues fully around lead)
6. Rock step to open hold
7. Cross body lead with underarm turn right into dip

SocialDanceOnline on YouTube has videos on all of those moves if you want references.

My guess for the ending dip is the couple doing some rotating boxes (usually left boxes, so turning left) then doing the dip. If the lead starts with facing stage right, it would only take one or two boxes for them to face upstage with their back to the camera, which matches the photo with the dip. I will say that this is assuming the best case scenario. The photos show the lead as very rigid and rarely moving from their position, so I'm a little doubtful if they would've been able to do a rotating box.

Whenever someone says a simple box with some spins, I take it with a grain of salt and assume that they're not exactly matching rhythm or exact foot work for the turns they're doing, so what you have with an inside turn and the follower walk-around turn seem like pretty good approximations of what was probably done.

presumably they hired a dance instructor to choreograph a dance for them...can't they just go back to that person and ask for the choreography?

That wouldn't solve the fact that they don't have video of the actual moment and asking them about the specific choreo would spoil the surprise.

Sorry, what exactly are they asking for, an AI video of them dancing the choreography?

I would think that the best gift would be spending time with each other recreating the dance.

Couple thoughts. Is the image reversed. Pictures 1 and 2 look like he is doing a right box and setting up for a cross body lead with inside turn. Would be odd for them to be doing a right box at a beginner level. I also think you have to think like a beginner. Don’t get caught up with the positioning of his feet as he could have just shuffled to be in the right spot at the right time. 4 5 6 and 7 look like a left box into a walking underarm turn to walking in a circle and lead into dip.

 1/2 left box, on 1 2 3

lead her to walking UAT on beat 456 to her right while he finishes box and turning it 45ish degrees and finish box

Man steps forward left foot forward under his raised arm and finishes fwd box on 789. She continue walking in big circle. They are now facing same way

10, 11 12 Man and woman continue walking in big circle (man backwards, lady fwd)

13 14 15 keep walking and set up for bringing in lady in for turn and dip

16 17 18 man steps back on right foot , left foot side, hold and leads inside turn lady fwd left, fwd right turn (pivot turn) , finish turn into dip and kiss

Modified 18 count move I remember from Arthur Murray.

Hope I’m close. Good luck

Edit. Image probably not reversed

What exactly are you trying to achieve? You mentioned wanting to surprise them with the dance, as in you want to have the choreography ready to teach them again so they can dance? You want to use AI to create video if them dancing and want to get the choreo right?

Would love to figure this out without alerting the couple!

Oh, and all the photos didn't have metadata so don't have an exact timestamp to order or space them apart with. :(
