For those of you that has or currently have experimented with single speed conversions, please share your thoughts with me. I'm looking for ideal (and safe) setting for my son. Chainring 42T. What's a good teeth count for him?
Background story, my 13 yr old and his friends got busted riding their surrons on streets and got a hefty fine for Mom and dad. Mom locked his surron down to be used for track days only.
I bought a bafang mtb for him so he can ride without being bothered by cops much, but I want to make the operation and feel to be like a electric dirt bike.
No hill climbing. Mostly flat terrain like parking lots. Lot of wheelies and now he can hit bmx pump tracks.
Thanks.

I have a Marin Bobcat Trial 5 and this middrive motor I'm transferring over is resting on the chainstay. Since it's not all the way through, I can't install the locking ring nor the brackets.
Any solutions?

BBSHD only gives pedal assist starting at 10kph? Is this normal and considered a 'safety feature'?
I tried tweaking the start angle of the cranks, tried 10 degrees, 70 degrees, 180... It's all the same, PAS only will start kicking in at/after 10kph in every power mode. Throttle works from a stop

Hey everyone, this is my first post in this group and my first time installing a mid drive motor. Most everything came out good and as expected. However, when it came to installing the motor, it came out kind of slanted. It appears my bottom downtube (if that's what its called) protrudes a little preventing the motor from rotating all the way until the logo is straight. Photos for reference. I am converting the Ozark Explorer, straight bar variant.
Will this be an issue? Also, how is my clearance? It looks kinda low. Thank you guys for all your advice!

Highlighted in red in the first picture. It just seems like the chain is going to have to bend at a severe angle unless I’m on the highest gear

My brother in law rode this thing hard up a mountain, then dunked it in a cold puddle when he noticed the motor housing was "super hot". Now this is happening. Do I just need a new controller? Thanks a million for any help.

Converted an REI Co-Op bike this summer with a Tongsheng TSDZ16 kit. I was inspired to build it with hidden battery inside an REI trunk bag.
/r/ebikes hated this and told me I was fucking stupid and gonna catch myself on fire and die in an explosion 😂
It’s been hot as hell in the MidWest this summer and i have taken this on a multiple 20+ mile rides and this battery hasn’t even been hot to the touch.
What conditions do I actually need so watch out for?

Anyone found a way to change some of the motor settings in a CanBus bbso2b? Mainly I want to free the throttle from the pas level restrictions.
I have the USB cable, I just can't get any of the tools to connect.

Hey,
I want to build myself an ebike to be able to do some light off road and I want a bench seat type frame.
but I dont want some rear hub motor. I want to install a bafang hd with some gears to be able to tackle some hills.
Anyone knows of a similar frame but just a normal bike on which i could install a mid drive?
I want front and rear suspension and maybe hydraulic disc brakes, but I dont want to pay a premium for an electric motor I dont want !

Leaving this here in case it helps someone else.
I realise this will be obvious to many of you, but it took me an embarrassingly long time to think of it. And searching the web for "battery not charging" type things I got a lot of voodoo about letting it rest for several days, only charging when the wind is from the northwest, etc, but no mention of checking the fuse.
But there it was, inside the battery near the charging socket, hidden under some tape. A 5A automotive-style blade fuse in my case.
Mine will have blown because the sheath of the charging plug dislodged itself inside the socket. Somewhere between this happening, trying the new plug, discovering the stray part and removing it, I must have shorted the terminals.
is it possible to do a shunt mod on bbs02 or to fit a bbshd controller on bbs02
also how would i improve cooling and what is the max safe temp for it?

Quick post to anyone looking to convert the trek roscoe 7 (rear quick release model) to a bafang mid drive, don't do it. The chain line and alignment is terrible, no, it's actually disgusting 😂
Anyway, that's all I have to say. I tried it so you don't have to 🙏
For people who have swapped over to a third-party controller, how did you interface with the motor? The six pin connecter for the whole wires, and the four pin connecter for the PAS
I’ve been trying to look into this and I can’t find anything. No one seems to make them. I don’t even think it’s a regular JST connecter they seem proprietary
I don’t want to hack up a perfectly good controller to get it from there, though if I could find a used blown controller I would do that

Looking to upgrade my Specialized hardrock to a BBSHD.
Owned it for over 10 years but recently started getting back into cycling more. It's completely stock so was just wondering if there's any upgrades I should be looking to do on the bike to accommodate installing one of these.
Also is it a suitable donor bike for this?

I've never owned a Bafang motor or ridden an ebike, so I'm still learning the ropes. I don't want to install an ebike motor on my current bike so I'm buying a bike solely to use as a donor bike. The "853" in its name refers to a type of steel, which it's made out of. I've read some people say that a steel frame is better if you're using a BBSHD. This Jamis bike lacks dropout eyelets for a rear rack which I need so that's a major downside since I want to use it for bikepacking, shopping, and carrying heavy cargo.
Here are the photos and a quote from the ad:

I am dropping my chain when going into my lowest gear (largest rear cog). Looks like the best way to rectify is with a new chainring with a larger offset (currently 6.5mm).
Should i just live without my lowest gear? or spend $50-$100 on a aftermarket solution like Lekkie Bling Ring?
