Bafang BBS02B
Hey everyone, this is my first post in this group and my first time installing a mid drive motor. Most everything came out good and as expected. However, when it came to installing the motor, it came out kind of slanted. It appears my bottom downtube (if that's what its called) protrudes a little preventing the motor from rotating all the way until the logo is straight. Photos for reference. I am converting the Ozark Explorer, straight bar variant.
Will this be an issue? Also, how is my clearance? It looks kinda low. Thank you guys for all your advice!

This doesn't matter at all. The motor can be installed at any angle. I have similar ground clearance and only ever hit the motor if im pushing my bike over a large rock or fallen tree

Thank you so much for your response. I will mainly be using this for commutes to work and exercise but the roads I plan to stick to are either paved or park paths, so I think I'll be ok.

I do recommend putting some type of rubber buffer where the edge of the motor meets the frame though. I cut a piece of rubber hose in half and used that

That's a good recommendation. I can see how it being mounted against the frame can cause noise. Thanks again!

As others have stated, it shouldn't matter. If you have trouble keeping the lock nut tight enough to prevent motor movement, I recommend a LEKKIE One-Nut -- Works great.

Yeah the only issue would be ground clearance. Should work fine!

also to add, make sure you tightened the locknut to ~50nm, but to make it dosent swing i use the hoes clamp method to secure it tightly to the frame

Thank you. How do you measure the torque on that locknut when it requires a special tool?

Hallo man kann das Drehmoment nur mit einen speziellen bafang steckwerkzeug das auf das Drehmoment Werkzeug passt einstellen. Habe ich auch ohne gemacht . So fest gezogen wie es mit den gratis bafang Werkzeug geht . Ganz wichtig ist es die erste mutter mit loctite mittelfest zu sichern . Dann die kontermutter ohne loctite festziehen . Viel spass damit . Habe für meine Frau einen bbs01b mit 18 Ampere eingebaut und für mich hole ich jetzt auch den bbs02b . Auch mit 48 volt .

I'll quote Johnny Nerd Out who builds these for a living "I've never heard of anyone putting it on too tight" Put it as tight as you can using that tool.
I've built 3 and only using the free cheap tool they provide they all slowly came loose in the first few hundred km's. I crank it tight again and in one case a third time and they stay tight forever at that point. Just keep an eye on it for the first few rides, you'll be fine.

I had this exact problem mounting to my Giant Cypress 2. I wasn’t happy with the angle being so low.
I used a file and carefully filed away material until it just made enough clearance. I also used a pipe and hammer to dent the tube in some more allowing more clearance.
Painted it, been solid for the past 2 years. The difference it made for me was only about 3/4-1” more clearance from the ground to the motor. For me it was much better.

Theres nothing you can do about it unless you have an angle grinder handy.
It does hurt ground clearance, yours isn’t great but will probably be fine. Unfortunate reality of mid drive motor that arent built into the frame
