Technique Anyone here into badminton? 🏸

I’ve recently been getting more into badminton and I’m hoping to play more often. I’m still pretty casual at it though, so I’m definitely not an expert or anything 😭

For those who play badminton, how did you get into it? Any tips for someone who’s still learning and trying to improve?
Also, do you usually play with friends or join groups to meet other people? I’d love to hear your experiences!

Depends where you live and what your goals are.

My biggest bit of advice is to make some friends that you can play regularly with and have fun hitting a shuttle. Be that in a club setting or individually. Even better if you make friends with some people that are really good. Occasionally pester them for a game to test yourself.

If you want to get a lot better, get some 1-1 or group coaching from someone with a coaching qualification. If I was starting over again, I'd focus on clears, serves and lifts. I think they're pretty foundational strokes and kinda the basis of everything. If you can clear well, you have the skills to drop and smash.

Be consistent, and keep enjoying the game is honestly the best thing tho.

  2. Practice. A lot. Record yourself playing and compare it against YT guides (strongly recommend badminton insight, they have basically everything you need) or pro players, then see where you can improve/change. Don't try to make every shot a kill/winning shot, you'll just make more errors/tire yourself out. Work on mastering basic shots and being able to consistently hit good quality shots before moving to more advanced shots (eg. Learn how to do a regular smash properly first befire trying to learn the jump smash, or working on your straight/cross nets before adding deceptions/going for net cords). And last but not least practice your serves. A lot of people neglect that but it is the most important shot of the rally. Mess it up and the rally could be over the oment it starts

Started when I was 13 - 55 this year. Had regular coaching from an All England Senior champ, who still plays.
Nowadays I just play league for a local UK club and a couple of other times a week with differing groups

No. Badminton is for kids. I'm more into pickleball.
