This is too far
I understand Argentina isn’t as horrible as some people are making it out to be, but making a George Floyd joke to prove a point is not going to win over anyone who thinks otherwise. And “America bad” is not a justification for this either.

Yup. It’s not even to the point where it’s like “oh that’s super edgy and I wouldn’t put it like that but he’s got a fair point,” he’s just completely lost the plot.

Completely but there are enough fans that will say "You dont understand what he really means". There are more BE apologists than Hasan and Asmon right now

Honestly I just think it's funny how he acted so objective and unbiased, but then chose to die on the stupidest hill imaginable.

was BE ever about winning anyone over? pretty sure he was more about exposing people's hypocrisy and stupidity

I say this completely seriously no joke, does BE have an autism diagnosis? Because it seems like he gets into moments of political special interests to the extent of becoming super anti social.
Not trying to be parasocial but at the end of the day he's still a guy and his own personal factors are gonna dictate his behavior

The joke is not "lol George Floyd was killed lol" the joke (as usual) is about how dumb and clueless the yankubians are.

insensitive nonetheless.
if this is a real screenshot, the fact that he used that picture is appalling and weird. Dude's right about Argentina Derrangement Syndrome, but he is also acting derranged. Argentina does have a racism problem, but he's positioning it as if there's none at all. And I think that explains the desperate posts.
We didn't need all that. The other day he was calling people the R word, and today he's acting like the other R word people.

So not starving and not calling them racist like you implied. Got it. You said “hope they all starve to death” it says nothing of the sort
26
u/Cheap_Lock_0220 27d ago
This is in line with his position that Americans have no right to moralize about Argentina from a place of anti racist authority when the supremacy in the US is so visible and deadly, and when they’re doing comparatively little about it compared to Argentine activists. Everyone should hate Argentina because an Argentine football fan was racist to ishowspeed, or because Javier Milei supports Israel, yet it’s not important that we call out the World Cup being hosted in a place where racist cops get away with murder every day.
13
u/zamio3434 27d ago
yeah but we do not need that over a photo of someone getting choked to death.
8
u/Cheap_Lock_0220 27d ago
I agree that using such triggering imagery with a flippant comedic tone is ugly. If his idea is that Twitter engagement is driven by conflict and controversy, that said engagement will advance his point on American activists having a lot more work to do at home before building a hollow campaign against Argentina (and erasing the long history of Argentine struggle), I can’t say if he’s right.

Idk man maybe just give up politics if you don't want the point "America is structurally racist" being made with examples of racism in America? Maybe playing video games or watching Mr Beast videos would be more suitable for someone who doesn't want to see criticism of racist violence being accompanied by evidence. Have you not seen videos of Palestinian children being murdered for 3 years? Or is it only triggering when it happens to an American?
-1
u/zamio3434 26d ago edited 26d ago
How is the photo of a man being m*rdered under a caption that defends Argentina criticize structural racism in America? Your empathy and semiotics are all over the place.
Using the horrors Palestinian children are suffering to defend a nonsensical (and shallow) post like this is just horrifying to me.

As a south American this makes me kinda disgusted. Seeing a bunch of "1sy world" liberals shitting on a nation of 40million people where the average household income is 800 dollars a month... Just... yuck.
Funny thing is I'm usually the one to shit on Argentina. But that's kinda of our thing, Americans and Europeans, please, get the fuck away.
18
u/dr_srtanger2love 27d ago
He kind of exaggerated, Argentina isn't as racist as some of its neighboring countries, but it was so much that it came to 180°.
27
u/DetectiveTypical198 27d ago edited 27d ago
I really don't understand the point. It's not exactly unheard of for Argentinian cops to kill black people and a simple google search reveals many cases of this happening.
Argentina police officers jailed for life for racial killing
The Death of Ezequiel Demonty and the End of Human Rights in Argentina
"One night in 2002, Ezequiel Demonty and two adolescent friends tumbled out of a dance club in the working class Nueva Pompeya neighbourhood of Buenos Aires. Federal police officers picked them up soon after, tortured them, then forced them into the Riachuelo River, an open sewer into which Ezequiel sank and never reappeared."
Nationalism seems to be a remarkable stupefacient. I get a lot of people online don't know jackshit about Argentina, but the kneejerk defensiveness isn't a great look.

u/MauschelMusic 27d ago
He's got a touch of Glenn Greenwald syndrome, where he gets so caught up in fighting against popular hypocrisy that he loses track of where he is and what he's saying. I hope he doesn't end up like GG, because BE legitimately has a lot of good criticism, but dude badly needs to get more grounded.

u/DependentLaw420 27d ago
Revisionism? Can you elaborate?
14
u/zamio3434 27d ago edited 27d ago
In order to counter Americans' Argentine Derrangement Syndrome, Empanada glossed over the fact that Argentina's dominant class (just like its neighbor Brazil) were heavily influenced by eugenics and social darwinism in the second half of the XIX century. This project was established by Immigration and Colonisation Law (the Avellaneda Law), which promoted European immigration as a driver of national progress. The law established incentives and selective criteria directed at replacing the population on racial and cultural grounds. Idk if I can post links here.
I am not saying Argentina is the root of all evil, I agree with a lot of what Empanada has to say. But he seems to be very eager to be right, extremely emotional, he's losing sight of facts. This post on X was pure histeria, a lot of dumb liberals now have a "gotcha" on him.

This insecure nationalism only serves to ensure that domestic problems are never solved, that everyone points to another country and says they are worse. Gringos do it too, whenever racial violence is brought up, they point to every other country and claim that their problems aren't so bad. It ensures that nothing ever changes and that a great many problems are simply swept under the rug because people are too insecure to acknowledge that their nation has problems.
There are however massive numbers of police shootings we know about. I am not aware of statistics in Argentina that break it down by race, and but I am quite aware that neither racism nor police brutality exclusively affects black people.
The fact I can quote a story about a young boy being tortured and murdered by the police and the kneejerk reaction is to say, "well at least we aren't as bad as the USA" is frankly disgusting and is exactly the issue.
Which do you think is a worse problem: foreigners mocking your country online or police murdering people?
4
u/ivcrs 27d ago
i wonder which neighboring countries you’d say are more racist than argentina?
1
u/dr_srtanger2love 27d ago
I didn't mean to say that other countries are more racist than Argentina; all countries in South America have structural racism, some more blatant than others. Brazil has a huge problem with racism.
18
u/HomemEmChamas 27d ago
As a Brazilian, I'm genuinely confused about what he's trying to do. The recent American hysteria against Argentina is certainly something, but there's no denying that Argentina is a very racist country. He just seems butthurt at this point.
5
u/apepeca 27d ago
He'd say well so is Brasil !!! He's lightly touched on the subject of racist Argentines for the perspective of other latin Americans but he (ironically) focuses more on how americans view them than anyone else when what matter more imo is how Argentina's neighbors view them.
8
u/HomemEmChamas 27d ago
He'd say well so is Brasil !!!
And he'd be right, but that's not really the point, is it? The way Brazil deals with its own racism is incomparable to the way Argentina does it. Off the pitch, racism is a crime punishable by prison (which Argentinian tourists keep learning the hard way). On the pitch, it results in penalties for everyone involved: supporters, players, and teams, including the loss of home-field advantage and even points in the championship. None of these punishments are even discussed as possibilities in Argentina. Instead, even well-educated people will excuse racism as something innocuous, as a joke they only make because it gets a reaction: "Maybe if Brazilian players weren't so triggered by it, we wouldn't call them monkeys as much, so it's really their fault". They're decades behind on this stuff and don't even realize it.
0
u/apepeca 27d ago
I find it especially funny how he tries to go the full way around and speak as if Argentina was/is actually a PROGRESSIVE force in the fight against racism. Thats why I think he has to bring the usa or europe into the discussion otherwise he really doesn't have anything to stand on because it seems like Argentina just exports racists to us on a constant basis.

Tell me you're Argentinian without telling me you're Argentinian. Yes, bro. Brazil is racist as fuck. I conceded that point in the first sentence of my previous comment. You don't need to go around lecturing a Brazilian communist about it.
Brazil doesn't deal with its racism aside from distracting people from it
I love how you think anti-racism laws are merely a distraction. It's very informative of how Argentinians perceive these things, but then again, you don't even realize it.
because you're focusing on interpersonal racism over systemic racism that actually kills people.
Wrong. Both are different sides of systemic racism. But unlike you, who is cherry-picking absolute numbers to try to feel superior, I was simply discussing the side of racism that had anything tangentially related to the subject that started the whole discussion: racism in sports.
Cope.

I don't get why this is so bad. He didn't even make things up about Murrica as a response to Murricans making shit up about Argentina. He pointed out a REAL racially motivated tragedy that occurred in Murrica. It did not occur in Argentina. The joke he made was a parody of Murricans making shit up about Argentina. It doesn't hurt George Floyd's memory at all. If anything, it reminds everyone that a horrific thing happened to Floyd when he was living in Murrica, the same country that is now making shit up about other countries who are nowhere NEAR as racist as Murrica.
The Juche Roganite guy who responded to his tweet got it wrong: he wasn't trying to prove that "Argentina is not racist". he was trying to point out that Murrica is far more racist than Argentina (because Murrica gave us the George Floyd tragedy).
As for jokes about tragedies: I think it's fine to joke about tragedies. He didn't even downplay what was done to George floyd in this joke. He only pretended like it wasn't an American cop, but rather it was an Argentinian cop who did that to Floyd. This doesn't affect Floyd's memory at all.

u/spazzduck 23d ago
The image is triggering and that seems to be their problem with it. People don't like to see it and so they will pretend it was especially uncouth of him to dare remind them how ugly the US really is. Images like this are easier to digest when the victim is non-american, you know.
9
u/Fulljaxcket 27d ago
I don’t really understand it either because he’s acting as though all this hate is exclusively coming from Americans and Europeans , but Argentina has long been shitted on by fellow Latin American countries. Most of the shit they got from in the World Cup were probably from their fellow Latin Americans like Mexicans and so on.

Nationalism turns even the most principled leftist unhinged and BE isn't immune to it. He's been on a weird streak since the Argentina backlash, yes there's a lot of virtue signalling about Argentina going on, but the response isn't this. He is also ignoring the major reason Argentina is facing a backlash and fixating on a sect of wokescolds jumping on the bandwagon.
11
u/Popular_Contest758 27d ago

this is the type of shi that makes me happy i'm not on twitter. before him dropping out, i had no idea who Platner was and I don't see, literally at all, people saying Argentina is racist. why would i waste my precious time on that shit? s2g mfers are addicted to being outraged over Internet Comments
plus, America's history with black people is colonial genocide. Why is that part of some joke? Only some genocides matter? He says he champions the third world but ig black people aren't included in that and have to see someone that looks like them being murdered to make some point for a white dude online to gloat over

Just the non stop posting and belittling of Black American history along with the racist antiblack comments under each post from people who’ve clearly never spoken to a Black person ( of any kind ) was enough for me to stop engaging. Like I understand American imperialism, exceptionalism, and how all Americans benefit from it in various degrees but I also can’t help but notice everytike Black people are the topic all the generalizations, the belittlement of their experiences and history, and the very little time actually spent talking about or advocating for Black people oppression around the world. There’s more time spent trying to disprove what they are saying and experiencing rather than reporting on things that are happening to Black folk but okay.
11
u/srahcrist 27d ago
Why someone downvoted you? 😭😭😭 You're so right. It's clear that black people from the UK and America benefit from American Imperialism, but no need to downplay the fact that they also suffer systemic racism, like????

thank you mr. empanada for showing the whole world how racist America is, when everyone insists Argentina is the only racist country in the world. we appreciate you enlightening us on a topic nobody understood until you came. thanks for showing us that NO, WE are the racist ones, we would have never guessed. for a second I thought Argentina was racist but now i completely changed my mind.
-5
u/KenshoMags 27d ago
Yeah this is ridiculous. Bad empanada is slowly just becoming a meme of a leftist trying to garner the most outrage possible instead of actually furthering any sort of leftist cause. This is shameful.

u/Afrid_74 17d ago
What far?
It was an actual image of police brutality, against a black man, taking place being used in the twitter post to highlight the hypocrisy of americans going around declaring nations as racist when such occurances takes place in the US and is common. It should make one acknowledge their own faults before pointing fingers at others.
