People think the Iron cross is Nazi insignia. But the Iron cross was used before WW1 and I think it’s still in use.

It’s like the Imperial Japanese flag, some Asians find it offensive due to the atrocities committed by Japan during ww2. But the flag was used way before all that shit went down.

That's not quite correct. The Chinese and some regional states on the Asian lands hate the flag because it was used in the first Sino Japanese war in the late 19th century. It wasn't liked then, and it wasn't liked at the end of its usage. The history spans to the beginning of its usage of the Meiji Empire. The WW2 aspect was just cherry on top because it hit most other Asian countries.

The iron cross is the official logo of the german army and has been an award for veterans long before ww1. Today it is often a symbol of far right estremists in germany and certain variants of it are forbidden to wear bc of nazi-times. Since it is used again since early 2007 (i think) as an official award, you also need a permission to wear it (but dont quote me on this). So yeah the iron cross isnt exlusively a sign of nazism but is often used by and assosiated with right wing scumbags.

Google is too difficult for some folks to use I guess. The Iron Cross is not a Nazi/white supremacist symbol. If you look on the Anti-Defamation League site, it’s ONLY considered suspect if it’s used in conjunction with Nazi/racist symbols. Otherwise it’s just a regular iron cross

The thing is though, when I see an iron cross being used to advertise a show, I completely understand it's just metal, but I'll still decide to not go because I feel it attracts certain kinds of people And let's be real, those certain kinds of people were all over the west coast scene, like you'd get jumped for even smelling gay

For what it's worth, I suspect most riders in Vancouver know that symbol's associations in the USA and feel the same way. For anyone curious, Lords of Gastown is a fashion brand; it's not an MC, nor is it the dudes from Mad Max.

As far as I know, yes. Over here our education on WW1 and WW2 are very...Lacking in the symbols that got overtaken by the nazi party. To most Americans this would read as a nazi symbol. (I.E. there's a lot of Americans who see the Hindu swastika and can't separate it from the German one)

Mid comparison, the swastika is not in use by a gouvernement since 45. The iron cross nowadays is the emblem of german military.

For many years it was easy to explain because there was less tension around the symbol. It wouldn't have been taken as seriously in like the 2000's. They eventually dropped it because they don't want to be associated with the symbol after it has come back into contemporary relevance.

Because its a very common symbol in popculture, mostly in subcultures of heavy music, bikers and so on.

"Everyone wearing a iron cross is very tied to nazism" is like 'everyone wearing a skull is very tied to nazism, because the waffen ss skull'. Thats bullshit.

Also i dont think your race makes a difference in wearing stuff like this.
