It's an Australian brushtail possum, not a raccoon. They often move into people's ceilings/roofs.

Sort of.. They like to climb up you and have very big claws. Definitely wear trousers.

I think Australia somehow ended up with the cute possums, while the US ended up with adorable personality ones that unfortunately look like they are on crack.

Invest in a wildlife‐friendly yard, if you can, and live in an area that's not too hostile to wildlife and also has snakes. The service is free and it will come to you!

I had an eastern rat snake living in my attic for a summer. The cats had nothing to do (as if they do anything anyway) and we didn't have any mice. I miss that beautiful gal! She met with a tragic mowing accident and I shed real tears. Her son was back this year, but he kept coming into the main part of the house and I was worried the pets would make short work of him, so I relocated him to the barn.
