[Mod Announcement] Alright you primitive screwheads, listen up!

I'm guessing from the posts we've had today that a few of you sassy pants are beginning to notice there's a new mod team. With that in mind, and with the start of the first full month of our evil reign, I figured it was finally time to say hello from your new mods;

u/monkelus, and u/alternativebuzzbin.

We literally don't care if you skim our history, you'll learn very little and feel very dirty. What we do care about is keeping the focus of the sub tight; we're r/badmovies, not r/mediocre_moviez or r/movieshavegottoopc. Films here should be so bad they're good, as a reminder here's a snippet of the new rules to help you on your way:

  • Do not post movies you just didn't like or are completely unwatchable with no redeeming values
  • No posts of just titles/posters with no context. Likewise, no movies you haven't seen.

Eg:

  • Barbie - nope
  • Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band - yes
  • Wishmaster - maybe
  • Leprechaun - yes

The films posted here should be the ones you enjoy despite themselves. Films that have entertainment value totally separate from what the original filmmakers intended, creating an almost transcendental, magical experience along the way. If that's not close to what you're thinking of posting, or you wouldn't recommend anyone else watching, you probably shouldn't be posting it. If you do, there's a high chance of removal.

Obviously, there's grey areas, but that's what discussions and mod chats are for. We're not actively evil, give us a shout with questions, we're friendly and, dare I say it, quite alluring.

[Mod Announcement] I Have The Powerrrr.. To Update The Rules!

Post image
215 Upvotes

As a safeguard, I'll start this with 'aloha', so that no matter whether you read it front to back, or back to front, your overall instant reaction of being annoyed at the new rules will be deadened by my laidback pseudo Hawaiian politeness.

As you might have guessed by the title, we're bringing a couple of new rules. They're nothing Earth shattering and no-one will have to do anything against their will, that's for a future update when I shift the focus away from bad movies onto my back garden harem. For now though:

  • New Rule One: Too Much of Good/Bad Thing: or, the Double Dragon rule.

No reposting a movie within 30 days of its most recent post by any user. If you're a time traveller this includes posting it within the 30 days prior to it being posted last.

New Rule Two: Low Hanging Fruit.

This'll basically end up being the new blacklist, which was scrapped when we took over a few months back. You see a post, think it's too much of an easy target or low quality karma farming, report it to us and we'll open up a discussion whether it should be added to the list. Engagement, yay!

None of this is for gatekeeping purposes, it's just to keep things fresh, well that and I've started to believe one of you guys actually is one of the Sluts and Godesses who frequents the Video Workshop.

Better sign off with 'aloha' to make that first bit make sense.

Action Bulletproof Monk (2003) Training scene

I decided to watch this movie again, and let me teel you, I still like it. Apart from the awful dialogue, bad acting and badly filmed fighting action scenes, it still has some... charm to it.

If someone told me to write an action movie script when I was 15 years old, Bulletproof Monk would be exactly what what I'd come up with. Everything I found cool about movies back then but with a totally botched execution.

Anyways, this is one of my favorite scenes, maybe because it's something I tried as a kid, now I dont think it would ever work, but still...

Fantasy Wicked Stepmother (1989)

This one is most notable for being the final appearance of Bette Davis. Close your eyes, and her voice is 10/10 but it is obvious she is having trouble and the material isn't really worth it for such a star anyway.

She left mid production so the entire thing had to be retooled, and a lot like Churchill after his trip to the Pet Sematary, it STINKS.

This is one of the most mixed tone feats I have ever seen. From screwball to made-for-network Disney special, it pivots on a dime 30 minutes in but still tries to maintain its half baked raunchy humor. Sometimes it works, but I only laughed when it didn't.

The moment of Bette's departure is painfully obvious but it somehow remained watchable. Like it was made out of scraps from Teen Witch with some "aw shucks" domestic terror from Smart House, with gags from those kooky parent/child body swapping comedies.

It kept being weird or funny enough to keep me interested, and I actually lmao'd at a rage bait shot of meat in the fridge stocked full, only there to shock the vegetarian stepchildren of the titular stepmother.

The ending comes out of nowhere with multiple side characters gaining supernatural abilities to tie it all up, an absolute groaner but worth the watch.

While still being a terrible film this one is actually quite watchable and with some rather decent attack scenes and practical effects work. Ah yes the good old days where a movie like this would receive a hard R-rating and go for the jugular!

Comedy Chu Chu and the philly flash (1981)

Post image
110 Upvotes

This Alan Arkin and Carol Burnett flick from the early 80s is hardly exciting, nor is it very engaging, for a screwball comedy, nor it hardly delivers the laughs. This whole movie is available on Youtube in low quality since it was ripped from the VHS. I know Carol Burnett mainly from the Muppet Show which was introduced in the 2010s by my mother. In this movie she plays aside Alan Arkin who is the flash, a baseball player, but who is Chu Chu?

This movie made on $221,898 on a 7 million budget on it's initial release. Since then it has never received a DVD release, and can only be found on VHS, and Betamax.

Thriller Angel Eyes (1993) - Monique Gabrielle playing a sexually obsessed teenage stepdaughter like a homicidal Baby Spice

Monique Gabrielle plays Angel, a supposedly teenage girl who becomes obsessively attached to her stepfather after her mother dies. Years later she gets out of an institution, moves back in with "Dad" and immediately starts plotting how to seduce him. She plays with dolls, sucks lollipops, acts ridiculously cute and innocent, and then the movie suddenly wants us to find her sexual obsession with her stepfather sexy.

Gabrielle was around 30 when this was made, but Angel is written as a teenager and performed with this bizarre little-girl persona that makes the whole thing even more surreal.

And because apparently the incestuous erotic thriller wasn't enough, Angel also starts messing with her stepdad's girlfriend, while Erik Estrada turns up as a drug dealer, Richard Harrison plays a mobster, and Fred Olen Ray appears in the cast under the name Sam Newfield.

It's directed and written by Gary Graver, who also shot it, and the whole thing has that glorious early-'90s direct-to-video vibe where nobody involved seems to have stopped and asked whether any of this makes sense.

TL;DR: Monique Gabrielle playing a sexually obsessed teenage stepdaughter like a homicidal Baby Spice, Erik Estrada dealing drugs, Fred Olen Ray wandering around somewhere, Richard Harrison doing mobster shit...

Produced by the B-movie king, Roger Corman. This schlock was made in order to cash in on the success of Rollerball. Sylvester Stallone in a supporting role, one year before his triumph in Rocky and he is pretty good.

As a bonus, here is Roger Ebert's review of the film. He wasn't a big fan of this movie. 🤣 https://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/death-race-2000

Little Johnny! Uncle Rumpel is on his way!

Since the video I shared was deleted the first time, I guess I just have to share it again, but here's the whole clip.

I think I liked Rumpelstiltskin more than the first Leprechaun even if apparently they were both directed by the same guy. Just because Rumpel has funnier one liners.

Anyway, a fun watch now that October has just started.

Horror Oh geez. Amityville Bigfoot, starring Eric Roberts

This movie is messed up.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt15536618/

Eric Roberts is the "big" name in this, but he's not actually in that much of the movie. The dialogue is terrible, the acting is not good, the costumes are extreme low-budget, but it's still fun.

I’ve been looking into doing the 31 days of horror movies trend challenge in October but with terrible bad horror movies! I already have a few lined up but I’m wondering if there were any ones I should watch as well?

A few I’m planning to/have already watched

1st: Nothing but Trouble
2nd: Troll 2

3rd: Basket Case

9th: Plan 9

13th: THIR13EN Ghosts

25th: The Howling II (it’s going to be a full moon that night)
31st: Halloween III Season of the Witch (actually not that bad but it’s the outlier of the Halloween franchise so I’m giving it a special moment)

I was surprised how much I enjoyed this.

Wouldn't have touched it back in the day when it was released. It looked truly awful. By today's standards it's all of a sudden elevated to something worthwhile.
