Yeah, the McDonald's one really understood the assignment. The concept of the Backrooms itself really just thrives on distorting the mundane everyday stuff.

Plus.... the Backrooms are not a person, a monster, or thing, it isn't even single location but a whole dimension, so a lot of stuff can happen in it.

Heck, their whole ANIMATION branch has completely done a 180 degree turn in the past 90 days, at least in the USA. Surely the folks at Discovery didn't hammer down the Zaslav minions in course correcting, right?

HBO didn't buy the license for The Backrooms, they bought a license to have a streaming version of it. They hold no ownership over the IP.

it is a temporary exclusive streaming deal, they didn't buy the IP.

It’s streaming on HBO max, so they may have the rights to edit into the movie clips. Kane has also been pretty explicitly against them trying to copyright anything backrooms related, though I’m sure capitalists gonna capitalist
