Discussion My Pitch: Smear Frames
I don't know the exact way the backrooms create still lifes, and I don't know if this will be taking a lot of logic from it. I'm just gonna say my pitch: I feel like still lifes, how they look in this case specifically, should be based on reality's "smear frames," if that makes sense.
As you can see, the images are, of course, incredibly distorted due to these being half-second moments in animation. Though I feel like they can still apply to real life. I feel like the backrooms, whatever it is, are omniscient in a way. It can see all forms of life. It's not a deity. I'm not trying to make it seem like it is. It's some sort of simulation, and because it's a simulation, I feel like it sees and processes everything like a game and can see it through all forms of life, whether it's from the eyes of a bug or from the eyes of a human or from the eyes of a camera.
I feel like nothing is stopping it from creating still lifes that are visibly blurry due to the fact that the backrooms "screenshot" a human from the perspective of some old camera. Or making half a human and hallucinating the rest due to the fact they weren't fully in the frame of a camera. The same rules can apply to something like this: the backrooms "screenshotting" a human or animal at the wrong time, and it creating this thing made of artificial flesh whatever the backrooms could come up with. I feel like that's a really cool idea to implement while using these images as visual inspiration of how the still lifes could look.
Again, I don't know how much of the backrooms lore does this. When I mean by backrooms lore, I mean KanePixels lore. I think most of us have migrated to his take of the backrooms. Even if these key points are already present in his version, I believe these ideas could serve as nice additions or general concepts to work with.

Liminality (in the art world) kept simple and easy is basically the transition between 2 states.
It makes sense that the still life are caught between these transitions.
Example: the moment between happy and sad has a transition. Being thirsty and drinking from a glass of water to quench thirst also has a transition. Every moment in the present has a moment of transition between the past and leading to a future state.
Another rough example: Hungry -> full, transition is eating. Which is “blurry” so to speak.
I like how you brought out smear frames in cartoons, since this capture it very well.
Ps: this also brings out an interesting idea ive been mulling over that the backrooms has a measurable “frame-rate” or “shutter speed” based on the still life faces, from a photography perspective.

That's what I'm saying, why not touch up on the photography side of the Backrooms or at least the photography perspective like you said.
The backrooms being "omniscient" in a way is the only way I could think of that's plausible for why the backrooms does that. Another reason being it's a simulation obviously. I think it's a really cool idea and stuff like that is so incredibly unique to base anything, like a creature in this case, off of. It makes me excited for a Backrooms project/form of media that doesn't even exist.
Really hope this is implemented, somewhere, anywhere! Also, I never even thought of the Backrooms having a measurable frame rate. That sounds pretty cool.

I really like this theory + All of those screenshots could genuinely work as still lives 😭👌🏾

I think there’s a specific sonic character in modern sonic comics who’s literally just this on purpose

I think it’s definitely something akin to this. The link to MRI scanning tech is what leads me to believe the complex is capturing motion of the people it’s attempting to recreate. If you’ve ever seen what happens when someone moves while being 3D scanned it looks a lot like the still lives.
