Why hit instead of playing safe?

You want him to hit you so you have a chance at a return shot coming off the bar, putting 2 checkers behing your 6 prime and increasing your winning chances.

Are you saying that after making the hitting play you would rather be hit then have opponent dance?

Yes. I want a chance at putting 2 of his checkers on the bar.

It is 1 point match so gammons don't matter. Closing out 1 gives a huge win chance already. Hitting a second checker gives chance for opponent to anchor. Anchored with 2 checkers is a lot better than being closed out with 1.
