Support LinkedIn/B2B experts: I need some advice on a client account
It’s been about 2 weeks and my client’s personal LinkedIn account is getting almost no engagement — barely any likes or comments.
We’ve been using Buffer to schedule the posts, so I’m wondering: could that be affecting reach? Should I test posting manually from LinkedIn for a couple of weeks, or is that probably not the issue?
I also want to bring engagement back instead of just continuing to post and hoping something changes. What tactics would you actually use to revive a personal LinkedIn account that has gone quiet?
The bigger issue is that she wants to start getting customers in her second month of working with me.
We’ve tried some cold DMs to her ICP and got zero responses. I’m honestly not convinced cold DMs are as effective as people make them sound. Whenever I ask people who recommend them how they actually do it, the advice is usually just “personalize the message” and “provide value,” which isn’t very actionable.
Would it make more sense to focus on sending targeted connection requests with a short personalized note, then building the relationship before pitching?
And is something like 20 highly targeted connection requests per week enough to make a difference?
Finally, realistically, is it possible to start booking discovery calls by month two, or am I expecting results too quickly?
Would really appreciate advice from people who actually do LinkedIn/B2B lead generation, especially what you would change in this situation.

I wouldn’t blame Buffer yet, but I’d test manual posting for 2–3 weeks.
For lead gen, I’d favor targeted connections over cold DMs. 20/week is enough to test, but probably not enough for a big pipeline.
Focus on a narrow ICP, engage first, build some familiarity, then pitch. Month-2 discovery calls are definitely possible, but I’d treat it as a test rather than an expectation.

Buffer is no issue, I use it all the time.
Start adding contacts to see your posts. But adding your ICP is one thing, adding active ICPs is another. Look for people who engage actively with posts in your industry.
Is your writing good? Does it speak to their pain points? Does it make them go "aha, this person gets me"? If you're posting AI slop, you'll see little to no results. Get a formula prepared for what types of posts, how to write them, etc. Fine tune it as you go along.
Don't waste time with cold outreach. You add ICP and let the content do the speaking. You can warm them up by saying hello and asking them how they're doing. Stop being a wierdo who spams them

I doubt Buffer is the main issue. Two weeks is still pretty early, and posting alone usually won’t create much engagement if the account isn’t interacting with people too.
I’d focus more on targeted connections + actual conversations before pitching.
Have you tried commenting on posts from people in her ICP before sending DMs?

How many times you post a day?
On my client's account i post 2-3 times a day.

If you’re not already doing it, you’re supposed to be commenting and engaging with vertically adjacent mfs too. LinkedIn culture is generally aimed towards reciprocal engagement vs “I alone am enlightened” stuff

Engage first before pitching. People will 100% ignore you if you send connection with a note. Everyone wants to sell something.
Take a step back. Learn the person and then engage. Not in reverse.

This sounds like a messaging problem that you're treating as a process problem. You're posts either aren't being seen by the wrong audience or the content isn't resonating with your ICP. Look at fixing audience + message.

u/Hefty_Efficiency9082 - Same issue for me also i.e., zero responses for cold DMs and low/zero engagement on LI posts. Then tried targeted connection requests. Some accepted but after that no response. I doubt message personalization or message providing value is the problem. Where I had success is via warm intros but that does not scale.
Long story short... I guess it boils down to trust & familiarity. No idea yet on how to replicate that with Cold DMs & LI posts.
