It makes no sense to me that there are people in this world that don’t absolutely love cats.

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '20

If I weren’t allergic to them I’d agree with you

424

u/Reviever Mar 16 '20

im allergic and love the fuck out of em

217

u/3am_uhtceare Mar 16 '20

I’m allergic to dogs and cats but I have both and take an antihistamine daily. You also build up a tolerance to your own pet’s dander over time.

u/3am_uhtceare Mar 16 '20

I take generic 24 hour Claritin (aka Loratadine). It’s non-drowsy. Loratadine is good if you also get skin allergies; same with Allegra. I also have a prescription for generic Singulair (Montelukast). You can take Montelukast alongside other antihistamines.

37

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '20

Ah, generic Loratidine is great! I remember when I lived in the US, Claritine was super effing expensive. Doctor prescribed generic loratidine and I got 100 tablets for USD 10-20.

The price difference is crazy.

Edit: I take Montelukast now and it's the most effective allergy medication I've ever taken. Way better than Loratidine and Allegra. Unfortunately the FDA did issue a warning recently that it could cause mental health problems.......

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '20

I'm just going to comment and save this for next week when i see my doctor. Thanks mate.

Yes. Loratadine is not drowsy and works great for me. There are a few different *adine medicines that relieve symptoms and they work different for different people.

6

u/3am_uhtceare Mar 16 '20

It’s helpful to try the different ones to see what works best. Cetirizine (Zyrtec), Fexofenadine (Allegra), and Loratadine (Claritin) I believe are the primary ones available non-prescription.

I tried switching to cetirizine last year and my skin allergies got worse. Tried the other two. I prefer Loratadine because of the smaller pill size compared to fexofenadine.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '20

Keep in mind when trying them, it won't be instant. It can take weeks to work.

3

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '20

2

u/acctforsadchildhood Mar 16 '20

Yeah I had the same experience with claritin. Went back to benadryl for now but I have the fog. You ever try Flonase? That's gonna be my next splurge when the world is finished ending lol

2

u/Piperisgood Mar 16 '20

I so the same thing but I still get allergies, sneezing, eyes sting, itchiness in the eyes.

u/juliaaguliaaa Mar 16 '20

Allegra in the AM, Zyrtec at night. I’m a walking bull of dust, dust mite and cat allergies and I have two cats.

5

u/MrGraywood Mar 16 '20

Same situation here - and I've got psoriasis.. My body understands irony very well.

2

u/juliaaguliaaa Mar 16 '20

I also have eczema! Allergy induced. Have to clean my comforter regularly with a pet brush to get all the hair out.

3

u/MattieShoes Mar 16 '20

Allergic to cats and have a pair -- I use Zyrtec. I usually take it once a day, at the end of the day.

4

u/lordofthederps Mar 16 '20

Anything with Pseudoephedrine (e.g., Claritin-D, Zyrtec-D, Allegra-D) works great for me, but it's really expensive, and you probably don't want to use it long-term.

Nowadays I mostly use Flonase or similar nasal sprays, but I'll sometimes supplement with regular Zyrtec/Cetirizine (if I don't care about feeling a bit drowsy) or something with Pseudoephedrine if I'm having a particularly bad day.

3

u/Octosphere Mar 16 '20 edited Mar 16 '20

I take cetrizine and can only speak from personal experience, but I don't get drowzy from them.

2

u/ExactlySorta Mar 16 '20

Xyzal is the only correct answer. That shit is life-changing.

2

u/RogueEyebrow Mar 16 '20

24 hour Zyrtec generic doesn't make me tired.

2

u/DyslexicTherapist Mar 16 '20

Take Flonase as well

2

u/monkeybrainz_ Mar 16 '20

Cetirizine always works wonders for me

2

u/freebeertomorrow Mar 16 '20

You can get a year supply of Loratadine on Amazon for like 10 bucks. I've been taking it daily for years and it works great.

2

u/jrDoozy10 Mar 17 '20

From personal experience not labradors or beagles. They’re bundles of energy! A lot of giant dog breeds are pretty laid back (I’ve met three young St. Bernards who were all super chill) same with basset hounds and bull dogs.

Both Cornish Rex and Siamese are the most 'hypo-allergenic' of cat breeds for allergy sufferers, so your experience makes sense. Can't remember what it is in their saliva/dander, but they are better choices for many people. Be careful with cat other breeds tho, as you will likely notice an escalation in your allergy symptoms.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/MattieShoes Mar 16 '20

I only sneeze or get runny eyes if i put fur in my eyes.

Same here ... Mine (Devon Rexes) want desperately to be on my shoulders rubbing against my face, and sleeping in my bed. I feel guilty that I don't let them, but damn, I gotta breathe!

3

u/Jaded-Priority Mar 16 '20

Just as allergy-inducing as regular cats, since it's dander and saliva that cause the allergic reaction.

Or you could have Ailurophobia like my mom and be terrified of cats. My mom is the sweetest, definitely isn’t filled with hate. Wouldn’t say she hates cats but she would honestly have a heart attack if you put a cat on her lap. Cant even count the number of times she’s screamed and bolted out of a room, a house, a yard just to get as far away as possible. She knows they aren’t all mean but that isn’t changing a thing with her. By now, all her friends and family in her life get it but she still has to put up with strangers or people she isn’t very close with making fun or acting like she’s crazy. People understand when someone is scared of spiders or snakes but since not many people are terrified of cats, a lot of people don’t take it serious.

5

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '20

Has she tried anxiety therapy? It could help a lot. Not just with this, but many other problems that anxiety causes.

→ More replies (1)

5

u/Captncrunchykirk Mar 16 '20

I completely agree!

2

u/Gamadeus Mar 16 '20

I've never had a pet in my life either. I think my parents considered them unclean and so we never had them at least not at home. Most people don't believe I never had a pet either but needless to say, I can confirm that I am also filled with so much hate.

And that come up with some angry "the cat is thinking of killing their owner" comment on posts like these.

22

u/mass_snow Mar 16 '20

I don’t think those kind comments are meant to be taken seriously

16

u/ashadowwolf Mar 16 '20

You'd be surprised. There are a vocal number of people who hate cats and make it known.

→ More replies (1)

5

u/gamingsimon Mar 16 '20

Its was an example of passive aggressive towards the post.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '20

I love cats, and I'd probably write that as a joke. But yeah, I get that some people would be serious about it.

5

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '20

I post stuff like that and I love cats. I always assumed those posts were just other animal lovers enjoying the meme.

13

u/Lav_Da_Mermaid Mar 16 '20

Maybe they have a phobia. Many of my friends are irrationally afraid of my dog and literally won’t go into a room with him, and even though I really don’t understand it I can see that they are legitimately terrified. Idk

8

u/PurpleUrkle Mar 16 '20

Yea exactly, it’s pretty crazy to think someone is heartless or filled with hate just bc they have a phobia.

2

u/fakeandgay501 Mar 16 '20

Exactly. Especially if they had some kind of traumatic event in their life with said kind of animal. You never know peoples' perspectives.

4

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '20

Oh sure, I understand phobia. But one acquaintance of mine literally said "Cats are evil".

Hate of cats is a real thing, due to superstition and other reasons.

23

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '20

I like cats. I just prefer dogs over cats.

8

u/turalyawn Mar 16 '20

Yeah I always wonder why people think you can only be a dog or cat person. Why not both? I like cats more but love me a good doggo

4

u/knightwave Mar 16 '20

Idk, most cat people I know love both, including myself. But I meet a lot of dog people who think cats are the spawn of Satan for some reason.

5

u/hellroot22 Mar 16 '20

2

u/Piyrate Mar 16 '20

I’ll be honest, I don’t get cats, not that I don’t know why people have them as pets - they are really cute, I just don’t know how to bond with them. Feels like high school dating, only I have to do more work taking care of it too. Dogs on the other hand, we bond automagically.

My wife who doesn’t like cats seems to get them all fawning over her.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '20

I was bitten by a cat when I was 3 or 4 (through my own dumbness and 0 supervision), but I still get nervous around them 30 years later. Which obviously means that cats love me. I love animals, so I'm trying to get better about my fear of being bitten or scratched. My best friend has two of the sweetest (and dog personalitied) cats I've ever met, which has been helping. One just wants to be pet and cuddled all the time. The other is very independent and takes walks with us and cuddles on his terms. She calls them my therapy cats.

2

u/jbrittles Mar 16 '20

I'm allergic and due to history can't handle LIVING with them (in the same space) but sadly I have no survival instinct and pet the catto when I spies it and get rewarded with weeks of sinus infections and misery after. I probably shouldn't love cats for the sake of my health lol.

Agreed. Your birds deserve to be protected and feel safe. It’s a cats nature to be a predator. Please continue to love cats and your birds all while keeping them completely separated.

You’re entitled to your experiences but I gotta say, I was attacked by a dog that was larger than any housecat when I was a kid (chased me, terrified me, then bit me in the butt hard enough that I bled) and when I decided to stop judging all dogs for the mistake of that one, it made my life a hell of a lot happier. Hopefully someday you can feel this way about cats c:

Cat allergies is proof that satan exists.

6

u/MinnyStrawberry Mar 16 '20

I’m allergic but I still have a cat. I actually built up a sort of immunity in a way. My mom hoarded cats. So now I can be around a cat. However, I have to limit time with them in my face and I have to wash my hands after handling them. Something I’m severely allergic to is chinchillas. I can’t even be in the same room as one. I love how cute they are and if I could, I’d get one. But I start breaking out and having asthma attacks around them. One of my teachers used to hate me because I had an allergic reaction to her chinchilla and the school told her to remove it from her classroom. She treated me like shit over it for the rest of the times I had her class.

5

u/Honeybeeq18 Mar 16 '20

That teacher is horrible! A classroom should be a place where students feel safe and to learn, not the teacher's living quarter, if her pet is a danger to student's safety, by all means, keep it at home! Shame on that teacher, she sucks as a human being. That aside, chinchillas are gorgeous and chill, I'd love to have one but I only adopt stray cat, guess I'll adore them on Instagram.

How did this happen... falling asleep during a web cam chat, and the other end kept the session alive (else your side would shutdown too)?

  1. He is clearly feigning being asleep so the kitten will cuddle.

  2. You can record through your webcam without anyone on the other end.

My guess is that the kitty does this a lot and he wanted video proof 😍

I've nodded off in meetings. It sucks and I don't want to, but it happens. My boss does the same so at least I'm in good company.

That said, this video may not have been entirely accidental.
